Letter sent to parents as police probe safeguarding issue at south Essex school
POLICE have launched an investigation following a "safeguarding matter" at Beauchamps High School in Wickford.
In a letter sent to parents of children at the school, headteacher Mat Harper said that while he was not at liberty to discuss specific details, all safeguarding policies have been followed and that the wellbeing of pupils remains his priority.
Mr Harper also encouraged parents and pupils to refrain from speculation and rumours, which have reportedly began to circulate on social media.

"We are currently working with relevant authorities about a safeguarding matter at the school and a subsequent police investigation," said Mr Harper in his letter.
"Due to it being an ongoing investigation I am very limited in what I am able to share. This is to not only protect those involved, but to ensure the investigation is not compromised.
"However, I want to reassure you that all safeguarding policies and procedures have been followed, including providing support to those involved. The welfare and safety of our students is of paramount importance and we work to all statutory and local guidance at all times.
"It is very important everyone avoids speculation and discussing details about this matter, including over social media and WhatsApp, so the investigation is not compromised. I ask all parent/carers to adhere to this and to ask your children to do the same."
