Beaver Local leads Valley with six State wrestlers

EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio (WKBN) – Beaver Local wrestling leads the Valley with six OHSAA State Tournament qualifiers. Watch above for in-depth interviews with each Beaver qualifier. The state qualifiers consist of three seniors, one junior, one sophomore, and one freshman. Beaver Local senior Isaac Prescott will wrestle in the 285 lb. heavyweight class. 'I'm super excited, super happy that all my hard work finally paid off,' said Prescott. 'If you told me that I would have qualified for State this year, I wouldn't have believed it. I'm just super thrilled.' Fellow senior Kane Curran will wrestle in the 190 lb. weight class. 'It's definitely paid off, I feel all kinds of emotions are being thrown at me right now,' said Curran. 'I'm really happy knowing that all the stuff that I've put into this is finally paying off.' Beaver's senior Justice Fisher will compete in the 106 lb. class. 'It'd be my lifelong dream since I was in youth, since I was a kid,' said Fisher. 'Get first, just get better than last year, but I want to be first in the state.' Beaver Local junior Bobby Buchheit will wrestle in the 138 lbs. class. 'Qualifying, I really don't see it as a big deal, it's just a step in my journey,' said Buchheit. 'I've qualified all three years, I've won and I've placed. I'm looking for a state title and that's what my mindset's on.' The Beavers Evan Ours will compete in the 165 lb. class. 'Honestly, really cool, I always see my older brother go to States and it's something I've always wanted to do in high school, so I think it's really cool,' said Ours. Beaver Local freshman Jake Hughes will wrestle in the 150 lbs. class. 'I'm ready, I've prepared for this all year and now it's just the last week of getting everything dialed in,' said Hughes. 'I know I'm ready to go win it. The OHSAA State Wrestling Championships start Friday and run through Sunday at the Schottenstein Center on The Ohio State University's campus. East Liverpool downs Beaver Local to advance to OVAC title game

EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio (WKBN) – East Liverpool boys basketball down rivals Beaver Local 63-57 to secure a spot in the Class 4A Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Championship game Tuesday night. Watch above for extended highlights! Potter's Cohen Pease led East Liverpool in scoring with 15 points. Also, Nate Birch posted 14 points and D'shawn Kirby scored 10. Beaver Local junior Owen Hill scored his 1,000th career point and tallied a game-high 16 points in the loss. Hunter Warrick scored 13 and Luke Rettos recorded eight in the defeat. The two rival teams previously split the regular season series at 1-1. The Potters advance to a season record of (15-6). The Beavers fall to an overall record of (14-7).
