CM reviews arrangements ahead of festivities

Kolkata: CM Mamata Banerjee held a meeting on Wednesday with top officials and senior ministers to review security arrangements during the upcoming Ulta Rath, Muharram and Srabani Mela. The CM made it clear that she would not tolerate any lapses. As Ulta Rath (July 5) and Muharram (July 6) fall on subsequent days, the CM ordered the police and administration to check procession routes to ensure that there is no overlap. Police officers were asked to keep strong contingents posted in trouble-prone zones. After the recent troubles at Shamsherganj and Maheshtala, the state administration was asked not to take things lightly. Medical teams and ambulances will also be kept ready during the Ulta Rath and Muharram processions. The CM also discussedarrangements for the Srabani Mela of Tarakeswar, expected to start on July 10. She asked minister Becharam Manna, who hails from Hooghly, to arrange for adequate water and medical facilities for the pilgrims heading towards the Tarakeswar temple. Ayan Dutta, SDO of Chandernagore, said a team of ministers and govt officials would visit the Tarakeswar temple complex on July 8to check the arrangements. The CM is expected to visit Iskcon's Rath pavilion at Maidan on Thursday.
