(HT Photo) The victim was identified as Bechu Lal, a Plaster of Paris contractor, and a resident of Prem Nagar, said deputy commissioner of police (west) Vichitra Veer. The suspect is a 24-year-old resident of Sudershan Park in Moti Nagar, who was going from Punjabi Bagh towards Shadipur, police said, adding that they have formed teams to arrest him. 'Our control room received a call around 1am about the accident. When we reached the spot, we found a damaged white Thar and a bike. Locals told us that they had taken the victim to a hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. Preliminary probe revealed that the bike was hit by a Thar. The rider lost his life in the accident. The driver of the Thar ran from the spot leaving the vehicle behind,' said a senior police officer. The victim was on his way to Acharya Bhikshu Hospital to meet a relative who was admitted there, said Shiv Kumar, the victim's cousin. 'But on the way, he got a call so he parked his bike on the roadside and started talking. That's when the car rammed into him,' said Kumar. CCTV footage of the incident showed that Lal was sitting on his parked bike when he was hit by the speeding Thar from behind. The impact flung Lal several metres away while the car rammed into a parked truck a few metres away. The impact pushed the parked truck into another parked truck in front of it. Police said the suspect was with a woman at the time of the accident and that a bottle of Vodka and a few cold drink bottles were recovered from the Thar. 'The suspect runs a business of making flex boards in Kirti Nagar. We have formed teams to catch him. We don't know whether he was drunk or not at the time and will ascertain this after we arrest him,' the officer added. The victim's sister, Kiran Devi, 30, said she wanted strict action to be taken against the accused. A case has been registered. The SUV was found registered in the name of a west Delhi resident. Investigators said the rear of the bike and the front of the SUV were heavily damaged. CCTV footage showed the road was busy when the white SUV, at high speed, lost control and hit the truck. Lal's bike was parked near the truck. CCTV footage is being studied to ascertain the route the driver took to flee. Shiv Kumar, Lal's relative, said the contractor lived in west Delhi's Prem Nagar with his 15-year-old son, while his wife and four daughters live in Gonda, UP. "On Friday night, he went out to meet someone at the hospital when the accident occurred near the hospital gate," he said. When Lal did not return home, the family began searching for him. Around 5am, they received a call from police. Lal was the only earning member of the family and had recently fixed the marriage of his 19-year-old elder daughter. "That seems uncertain now," Kumar said. "The other children are still studying. With Lal gone, it will be extremely difficult for the family to manage their day-to-day expenses and continue the children's education." VIDEO: 2nd 'hit and run' in Delhi in a month - Thar runs over biker, driver flees; several liquor bottles found in car

A 40-year-old man lost his life in a late-night crash in West Delhi's Moti Nagar when a Thar rammed into his motorcycle, police said on Saturday. The victim, Bechu Lal, had stopped his bike behind a truck near a signal while on his way to the hospital when a Mahindra Thar came speeding from behind and struck him – killing him on the spot, reported PTI. The latest accident marks the second incident of hit-and-run case in Delhi, recorded within a month. After hitting the victim, the Thar then careened out of control—climbing onto the footpath, smashing into an electric pole, and crashing into a stone bench before finally grinding to a halt a short distance ahead. Visuals showed two liquor bottles on the mangled car's front seat. The SUV driver fled the scene after the incident and is still at large. 'The driver of the Thar fled the spot immediately. Multiple teams have been formed to track him down,' a senior police officer told PTI. A case has been registered, and investigators are scanning CCTV footage to assess the vehicle's speed. Bechu Lal's family has been informed, and his body has been sent for post-mortem. Last week, a 40-year-old delivery executive named Rajkumar was killed when his e-scooter was struck from behind by a speeding SUV. The driver fled, and the case is under investigation. Earlier this month, a pedestrian was killed and another injured near Chanakyapuri's Gyarah Murti after being run over by a Thar, from which police later recovered liquor bottles and narcotics, including LSD and cocaine, reported news wire PTI. A speeding tempo struck a motorcycle carrying four factory workers. Three men—Bijay (38), Ramakhant (30), and Nandu Kumar (23)—were killed, while a fourth was critically injured. The suspect fled the scene.
