Police issue 10 warrants in aftermath of Woodrow Wilson graduation night brawl
beckley – Officials at the Beckley Police Department have released more information about the brawl that happened May 31 outside a Woodrow Wilson High graduation ceremony. At 6:43 p.m. on May 31, officers who were assigned to the security detail at the Beckley Raleigh County Convention Center were notified of a fight that involved about 10 or more people. In a June 5 statement, BPD offered more insight about why the fight began. 'The results of the investigation determined that this incident stemmed from an ongoing dispute between several of the individuals involved. A firearm was recovered from one of the individuals at the time of the incident, however, the firearm was never brandished during the altercation. Possession of a firearm during a school sponsored event is illegal regardless of where the event occurs,' states a press release from the police department. Raleigh County Magistrate Timothy P. Deems issued felony and misdemeanor warrants for: Jalen Marquis Cook, 19, for felony possession of a deadly weapon on premises of a school-sponsored function; Tayvon Anthony Morris, 21, battery; Stephon Tyreese Yancy, 18, battery; Tommy Lee Payton III, 18, battery; Tytus Ira Mason, 21, battery, Ty'Lai Khalis Kimble, 21, battery; Zachary Lee Pennington, 18, battery; Brandon Jerrell Burks Jr., 18, battery; Latrael Decors Hairston, 19, battery; Madix Caiden Preast, 18, battery. Beckley Police said all subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Police Chief Dean Bailey commended Woodrow Wilson High School Resource Officer Lt. Wall for aiding in the investigation. Bailey also asks residents who may have further information about the fight or the whereabouts of any of the suspects to contact the Beckley Police Department at 304-256-1720 or Crime Stoppers of West Virginia via their free P3 Tips mobile application.

Warrants issued in relation fight after local high school graduation
BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — Multiple arrest warrants were issued in connection to a fight that occurred after the Woodrow Wilson High School graduation. According to a press release from the Beckley Police Department, the fight occurred on Saturday, May 31, 2025 after the Woodrow Wilson High School graduation at the Beckley-Raleigh Convention Center. Richlands Police Department investigates reported hit-and-run accident involving a pedestrian The press release stated that it was discovered that the fight was allegedly caused by ongoing tensions between multiple people involved in the incident. The Beckley Police Department stated that during the fight, a gun was taken from one of the people involved, although the gun was reportedly never shown at the time of the fight. According to the Beckley Police Department, regardless of the event location, possessing a gun at a school sponsored event is illegal. In the press release, the Beckley Police Department stated that the people on the list are advised to turn themselves in at the police department. Beckley Police Department welcomes new K9
BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — A new K9 was welcomed to the Beckley Police Department. According to a post on the Beckley Police Department's Facebook page, K9 Luna was added to the department's patrol division. K9 Luna is a 14-month-old German Shorthaired Pointer, and her handler is PFC Amick. Anti-rabies clinics to be held in Raleigh County The post stated that PFC Amick and K9 Luna, who is certified in ten different Narcotics and Tracking, finished 120 hours of training and were officially certified in the Mountain State. Part of Harper Road closed in response to a tractor trailer accident
BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) – One Raleigh County road will be closed after an accident. Raleigh County Commission, Solid Waste Authority announces Litter Pickup Program From Northwestern Avenue to Carriage Drive, Harper Road will be closed, according to the Beckley Police Department Facebook page. This is because of a tractor trailer rollover. All traffic heading westbound on Harper Road is being diverted onto Westwood Drive. Registration open for Beckley PD Junior Police Academy
BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) – Kids in Raleigh County will have a chance to get an up-close look at the law enforcement profession as the Beckley PD's Junior Police Academy program returns. Each year the Junior Police Academy offers kids grades 5-8 in the local area a chance to experience what it's like in the field as a police officer. In the past, participants have gotten up close and personal with the Beckley Police Department K-9 Unit and have gained insight into aspects of law enforcement such as defensive tactics, first aid & CPR, fingerprinting, and more. Lieutenant John Wall with the Beckley Police Department said that the program is looking for participants in the Raleigh County area, specifically Beckley-based students. 'The Junior Police Academy is open to students 11-14 years of age,' Lt. Wall told 59News. 'They must be a resident of Raleigh County a preference will be given to students that attend school in Beckley City Limits.' This year's academy will be held in two sessions over the summer, with the first scheduled from June 23-June 26 and the second for July 7-July 10. Lt. Wall says that applications can be picked up at Park Middle School, Beckley-Stratton Middle School, and at the Beckley Police Department.
