5K fine if children caught playing mobile games: CG village warns parents

Raipur: Forget fines for spitting or smoking in public, the latest crackdown in this Chhattisgarh village targets thumbs, not tobacco. In a first-of-its-kind move, a village has warned parents they'll be slapped with a Rs 5,000 penalty if their children are caught playing "dangerous" mobile games like 'PUBG' or 'Free Fire' and the village head has even put a Rs 1,000 bounty on tipping off about young gamers flouting the ban. Gram Panchayat of Gahirabhedi in Chhuriya block of Rajnandgaon district has taken this initiative aiming to prevent children wasting time on mobile games and engage in physical activities in stead of being glued to phones and spend the day sitting at one place. Besides, steering children towards studies and other activities is also the motive. Sarpanch Bedbai Porte said the decision was taken collectively by the Panchayat and villagers. "To ensure real implementation of the rule in letter and spirit, we decided to reward the informers to give a tip-off about youths playing mobile games. They will get Rs 1000 from village funds. The diktat is being hammered into the minds of people and making them aware about the seriousness of the initiative, the village kotwar goes out on bi-cycle making public announcements (munaadi) about the new rule. It's repeated thrice a month," sarpanch said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Beyond Text Generation: An AI Tool That Helps You Write Better Grammarly Install Now Undo Yashoda Bai Thakur, a mom of 7-year-old in the village said that her son was told about the rule and he picks up phone only after seeking permission from her for his studies or calling up his father.
