Dissmissed Beed cop Ranjit Kasale booked again for an objectionable post, this time against Fadnavis

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Dismissed sub-inspector Ranjit Kasale, who is already embroiled in several criminal cases, has been slapped with additional charges from the Beed cybercrime branch for allegedly posting derogatory and defamatory content against Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on social media platforms. The latest FIR, registered on Monday, stems from a complaint lodged by BJP IT cell's state co-convenor Sambhaji Surve. The complaint alleges that Kasale published content deemed defamatory to Fadnavis and of an objectionable nature, resulting in police intervention. Police have applied sections 197 and 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) alongside section 66 of the Information Technology Act, 2000. These new allegations are expected to intensify the legal challenges for the former policeman, who is currently under police detention for a different case. A Mumbai crime branch team recently caught Kasale in Delhi and transported him to Mumbai for questioning. Following his court appearance before a magistrate, he received two days of police custody. This detention concluded on Monday, June 2, after which he appeared before the Fort court. Earlier, Kasale faced arrest for allegedly attempting to create communal discord and making offensive remarks against elected representatives. The current case adds to a growing list of complaints against him. Before these events, police had registered two separate FIRs against Kasale at Beed's Shivajinagar police station and the district's cyber police station, following complaints from social activist Mohan Aghav. Additionally, Kasale faces charges in Mumbai for similar violations involving provocative social media content directed at political figures and communities. According to police sources, Kasale's online activities demonstrate consistent behaviour aimed at causing discord and damaging the reputations of public officials. BJP's Pankaja Munde puts cryptic message on father's death anniversary

Maharashtra environment minister and BJP leader Pankaja Munde on Tuesday said she was ready to face problems if people are with her, while referring to the exile of Pandavas and noting that righteous people inevitably experience hardships in their lives. She also mentioned demon king Ravan in her speech laced with political undertones while addressing a gathering at Gopinathgad which houses the memorial of her father and BJP stalwart late Gopinath Munde on his death anniversary. Another highlight of the occasion was the first public appearance of Nationalist Congress Party leader and Pankaja's embattled cousin Dhananjay Munde after months of political slugfest. Dhananjay was forced to resign as a cabinet minister in March amid a huge political firestorm over his links with Walmik Karad, an accused in the Beed sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh murder case. "Righteous people face problems. Kauravas and Ravan didn't face vanvas (exile) but Pandav had to go into exile. I am ready to face problems if people are with me," Pankaja said. Reflecting on her journey since the passing of her father, Pankaja said, "I have been speaking from this dais for the past 11 years. When Gopinath Munde passed away, it felt like a lightning strike on our lives". Drawing an analogy from the Mahabharata, she said, "Draupadi called out to everyone when she was in trouble, but she didn't call Lord Krishna initially. It was only when she called him that he came to her aid. Even God doesn't give us anything unless we ask for it." Pankaja asserted that if her father were alive today, he would have held a significant post in the country. "Gopinathji lives on, not just in our family, but in the hearts of people because of the work he did. He never wished ill for anyone. I see him today in his followers," the BJP MLC said, adding that she always maintained strong and respectful relationships. Before her address, Pankaja paid floral tributes at her father's memorial. She was accompanied by her sister, former MP Pritam Munde, and MLA Dhananjay Munde. Dhananjay didn't deliver a speech on the occasion.

‘All is well that ends well': Chhagan Bhujbal takes oath as Maharashtra minister, replaces Dhananjay Munde

Senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Chhagan Bhujbal was sworn in as a Cabinet minister in the Devendra Fadnavis-led Mahayuti Government in Maharashtra Tuesday, ahead of the civic body elections which are scheduled to be held later this year. Maharashtra Governor C P Radhakrishnan administered the oath of office to Bhujbal at Raj Bhavan. 'All is well that ends well,' said Bhujbal, who was denied a Cabinet berth after the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly polls. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy CMs Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, along with other ministers, and senior leaders representing all three ruling parties — the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shiv Sena, and NCP were present during the swearing-in ceremony of Chhagan Bhujbal. Bhujbal, 77, is replacing Dhananjay Munde, the former Maharashtra food and civil supplies minister, who resigned a couple of months ago over allegations involving his aide Walmik Karad in the murder of Beed sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh. In the Eknath Shinde-led government (2022-2024), Bhujbal held the food and civil supplies portfolio. The permissible limit for the Maharashtra Cabinet is 43 ministers, including the chief minister and two deputy CMs. Meanwhile, Opposition parties attacked the Mahayuti for making Bhujbal a minister. 'It shows the BJP's double standards. First, they attacked Bhujbal for corruption. They subjected him to an Enforcement Directorate probe. They got him arrested. Now, he has become clear just because he and his party are with the BJP,' said NCP (SP) spokesperson Clyde Crasto. Social activist Anjali Damania also expressed disappointment. 'One corrupt minister, Dhananjay Munde, has been replaced by another corrupt minister, Bhujbal'.

Bhujbal to be inducted as minister

MUMBAI: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA from Yeola, Chhagan Bhujbal, is set to become a minister in the Mahayuti 2.0 government. He will take oath on Tuesday morning at the Raj Bhavan, people in the know told HT. Bhujbal is expected to fill the vacancy left behind by Dhananjay Munde when he stepped down from his position of minister of food and civil supply, after the arrest of his confidante and election manager Walmik Karad, in connection with the brutal killing of Beed sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh. While Bhujbal confirmed to HT that he will take the oath on Tuesday, his nephew, former MP Sameer Bhujbal, said, 'We feel that a leader who fought for the rights of the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) is getting justice. He continues to fight for them and others who are similarly deprived.' Bhujbal, a prominent OBC leader, was one of the key aides of Ajit Pawar when the latter split up NCP in June 2023. He was inducted as a minister then; however, after the Mahayuti won the 2014 assembly election and returned to power, Ajit did not include him in NCP's team of ministers. An angry Bhujbal has been venting his ire since then. The timing of the move is significant, as it takes place soon after the Modi government's decision to conduct caste-wise census, which will give OBCs a significant place in the state's politics. Besides, the state is also preparing for elections to 687 municipal bodies and district councils after the monsoon. OBC voters will be significant in these elections, which are being touted as mini-assembly polls.
