35% of Aarogyasri funds to be given as incentives for docs, staff: Health Min

Hyderabad: Health Minister C Damodar Raja Narsimha on Friday announced providing 35 per cent of the Aarogyasri funds as incentives to the doctors and medical staff for providing treatment to the Aarogyasri patients. The Health Minister on Friday chaired the board meeting of the Nizams Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), where the Director Dr N Beerappa presented the NIMS-2024 progress report to the Minister. The Minister congratulated the doctors and staff. The NIMS authorities sought 35 per cent of the money received by the NIMS from Aarogyasri should be given to the doctors and medical staff. He gave the green signal to the proposals in this regard at the NIMS Executive Board meeting held at the Secretariat on Friday. Speaking on the occasion, Beerappa said that the number of outpatients in 2024 increased by 12.6 per cent compared to 2023. The number of patients admitted under Aarogyasri increased by 22.4 per cent. In 2024, 11,000 poor were treated at NIMS through the LOCs provided by the government. Beerappa said that only 5,800 people were treated under LOCs in 2023. He said that about 350 robotic surgeries were performed at NIMS last year. Since the number of patients at NIMS was increasing, he requested the Minister to allow the recruitment of doctors and staff accordingly. The Minister gave permission to fill more than 800 posts. This includes all types of posts, including doctors and nurses. The Minister inquired about the construction work of new buildings at NIMS. Officials explained the progress of the construction work to the minister. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the work should be completed as quickly as possible without compromising on quality. He advised the officials to come with all the details and that he would soon conduct a full review of the construction work. He said that people have a lot of faith in NIMS and that they come here from faraway places for treatment. The Minister congratulated the doctors and staff for providing better medical services while maintaining their trust. He suggested that even better services should be provided. He said that patients should be shifted from the emergency department to the relevant ward as soon as possible. He said that this would make it easier to provide beds to other patients who came in an emergency. He instructed that patients should not be kept in the ambulance for a long time and should be taken inside as soon as they arrive. The Minister warned that strict action will be taken against those who try to tarnish the reputation of NIMS through internal conflicts.

Shepherd's son gets word of UPSC success while grazing sheep, family gifts him lamb

BELAGAVI: Residents of a sleepy Maharashtra village erupted in joy after one of their own -- a shepherd's son -- cracked the prestigious UPSC exam. Beerappa Siddappa Doni from Emage, who secured the 551st rank, heard the news while he was grazing sheep in a field in Nanawadi, near Belagavi. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah personally called and congratulated Beerappa on his achievement. His father Siddappa, mother Balavva and other family members honoured him by performing a traditional aarti and garlanding him. The family also gifted him a lamb on the occasion. An elated Beerappa expressed his ambition to become an IPS officer. Meanwhile, the residents of another village across the border in Karnataka were also celebrating -- and for the same reason. Hanumanthappa Yellappa Nandi, the son of another shepherd from Kodliwad in Belagavi, bagged the 910th rank. His father Yellappa, mother Kalavva, wife Yashodha, brother Anand, other family members and the entire village were proud of his achievement in overcoming all odds and clearing the UPSC exam. Hanumanth studied from Class 1-7 at the Government Higher Primary School in his native village, Kodliwad. He then completed his Class 8-10 at the Government High School in Sattigeri. Hanumanthappa pursued his PUC in Karnataka College Dharwad and then passed his BE in Mechanical Engineering from Gogte Institute of Technology (GIT), Belagavi.

Belagavi village erupts in joy as youth from shepherding community clears UPSC

It was an occasion of unprecedented joy for the sheep-herding community of Nanavadi village in Belagavi district of Karnataka as one of them had cleared the civil services examinations conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Beerappa Siddappa Doni from Amage village in Maharashtra was visiting his relatives in Nanavadi in Belagavi district for the holidays. On April 23, his relatives heard that he had cleared the UPSC examination. Within no time, they organised a celebration on the grasslands where they graze sheep every day. Beerappa got the 551st rank, as per the UPSC results that were announced on April 22. Named after the family deity, Beerappa is a graduate. He wanted to join the Indian army, like his elder brother who is a soldier. But he could not attempt the officers' recruitment examinations due to various reasons. Instead, he got a job in India Post. However, he quit after a few years and started preparing for the IAS examinations. He cleared the exams in his third attempt. He hopes to join the Indian Police Service (IPS), based on his ranking, and his choice in the examination application form. His father, Siddappa Doni, does not know much about the civil service examinations. But he knows that his third son is bright and hard-working. 'Our well-wishers tell me Beerappa will become a senior police officer. I am sure that he will be happy, as he had aspired to become an army officer,' he said. His uncle Yallappa Gaddi, who stays in Nanavadi, was very happy that his nephew had cleared 'what is considered the highest examination in the country'. 'We want him to be a good officer and help poor people like us. His success will inspire other young men and women from our community to appear for such examinations,' Mr. Gaddi said.
