A tiny act of mercy is too little too late in Israel's onslaught on Gaza's children

Finally allowing countries to airdrop aid into bombed-out strip scant comfort to those in grip of starvation At least it's something, but the decision by Israel to allow countries to airdrop aid into Gaza is only a drop in the ocean of urgent action that's needed to tackle one of the greatest humanitarian scandals of our times. And let's not get carried away and think there's been any change of heart on the part of Israel, whose president, the son of a Belfastman, was defending the indefensible just last week.

Tiernan Lynch explains why Derry fans are only seeing best of Liam Boyce now

Tiernan Lynch reckons Derry City fans are finally getting to see the real Liam Boyce. Lynch brought the 28-time capped Northern Ireland international to the Ryan McBride Brandywell from Hearts last winter, and it took the 34-year-old nine games o register his first goal. And when it came against Drogheda United, it was followed moments later by a red card! Since then, however, he has added 10 more goals to his tally, including hat-tricks in a 7-2 Premier Division win over Waterford and a 5-1 FAI Cup win against Treaty United. Lynch knew it would take a bit of time for Boyce to settle in after his arrival, but he never doubted the Belfastman's ability to deliver once he did. 'I think everybody knew the quality of Liam Boyce, but you can definitely see that out there in training at the moment,' said the Candystripes boss. 'There was always going to be that transition period for every player and any player that comes into a new league. 'They are trying to understand even a new system. He is probably playing in a slightly different position to what he made his name with for Hearts. 'I never had any doubts that his quality would shine through. As we all said, I think that's starting to show.' Even when the goals were hard to come by, Boyce's head didn't drop. 'Boycey was always the type of character where I don't think he lacked any confidence,' insisted Lynch. 'There is certainly no arrogance in him, but I don't think he ever lacked confidence. I think he always knew that he would settle and when the chances came that he would take them. 'We are starting to see that now. Even in the likes of training where he has got himself back, he is fit and hungry, and you are starting to see these wee bursts of class.' Derry are looking to return to winning ways in the league tonight, after their last Premier Division game ended in defeat to Sligo Rovers. 'Unfortunately we fell short against Sligo, which we are hugely disappointed with, but we have to put that behind us and get back on the horse for Bohs on Friday night,' said Lynch. Windsor Park unlikely to host Crocker-Donovan rematch

The rematch between Lewis Crocker and Paddy Donovan now looks unlikely to take place at Belfast's Windsor Park with the city's SSE Arena set to be the venue, promoter Eddie Hearn has said. Limerick fighter Donovan was ahead on the judges' scorecards in the IBF world welterweight title eliminator in March when he was disqualified for hitting Belfastman Crocker after the bell sounded for the end of the eighth round. Donovan's joint-managers Andy Lee and Keith Sullivan officially appealed for their fighter to be granted a rematch and the IBF upheld the request. Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn made clear his desire that the rematch would take place at the home of Northern Ireland's football team, which was officially renamed the Clearer Twist National Stadium at Windsor Park earlier this month following the agreement of an eight-year sponsorship deal. However Hearn now accepts that the prospects of the contest taking place at the outdoor venue are fading, with the fighters set to duel once more at SSE Arena. "There's now a very good chance it won't be at Windsor. We will probably now do it at SSE Arena," he told The Ring. The promoter added that the return bout is likely to take place in "late August or maybe early September". Hearn said the fight would have to generate ticket sales in excess of 20,000 to make the outdoor option viable. "The issue with going outside is, with the costs and everything, you've got to be doing more than 20,000 tickets to make the delta positive of doing it in an arena with 9,000. That's a huge amount of tickets. "Would it do 15 or 16,000? Probably. And don't get me wrong, I love an outdoor show. But there's also a lot to be said about going into an absolutely packed out arena." Crocker's victory on 1 March maintained extend his career winning streak to an unblemished 21 victories as Donovan suffered his fight defeat in 15 fights.
