Each facility was equipped with the latest medical technologies and upgraded to meet modern technical and healthcare standards. These developments aim to strengthen the local healthcare system and restore essential services to the communities in and around Benghazi. Benina Rural Hospital After years of closure and deterioration, Benina Rural Hospital has been fully restored and is now ready to provide both primary and specialized care in a safe and modern environment. The reopening was attended by Members of Parliament, Libya's Minister of Health, local officials, and Benghazi residents. Kuwaifiya Hospital A major referral center in eastern Libya, Kuwaifiya Hospital has also been reopened following comprehensive renovations. The upgrade is expected to support medical staff with an improved work environment and enhance patient care quality. Al-Keesh Specialized Clinics This center for primary and specialist healthcare was reopened after years of neglect. Its restoration will relieve pressure on other medical facilities and improve access to vital health services for city residents. Khalid bin Al-Walid Polyclinic This important polyclinic, located in the heart of Benghazi, has been brought back into service after a complete overhaul. The inauguration marked a symbolic 'rebirth' of one of the city's key healthcare facilities. Belgassem Haftar stressed the Development Fund's continued commitment to rebuilding essential infrastructure and improving the quality of life for Libyans. The restoration of these health centers reflects broader national efforts to revitalize Libya's healthcare system after years of conflict and neglect. Tags: Belgassem HaftarbenghaziBeninahealthlibya

Libya Expands Economic Ties with Chinese Industry Giants

A high-level Libyan delegation, under the direction of Belgassem Khalifa Haftar, Director General of the Libyan Development and Reconstruction Fund, is on an official mission to China, seeking to build strategic partnerships across multiple sectors. The delegation is meeting with key Chinese state-owned and private companies to pave the way for expanded cooperation in infrastructure, industrial development, energy, water desalination, telecommunications, data systems, and vocational training. The visit comes as part of the Fund's broader vision to accelerate Libya's reconstruction and economic recovery by tapping into international expertise. The delegation's agenda includes meetings with major corporations such as China National Engineering & Construction Corporation, Huawei Technologies, Dongguan University of Technology, Taixing First Construction, and the China Energy Engineering Corporation—entities with proven track records in executing large-scale projects globally. Discussions were held in major Chinese cities, including Shanghai, Guangzhou, Zhengzhou, and Weihai, where Libyan officials outlined their development goals for 2025–2027 and reviewed project proposals aligned with the Fund's strategic roadmap. Key areas of interest include rebuilding critical infrastructure, expanding renewable energy sources, introducing advanced IT systems, and fostering skills development among Libyan youth. The delegation also explored potential technology transfer initiatives and pilot programs for vocational training, especially in fields like telecommunications, civil engineering, and smart infrastructure. Huawei and Dongguan University of Technology expressed interest in collaborating on educational exchange programs, tailored training modules, and digital infrastructure upgrades. In the energy and utilities sector, the meetings focused on Libya's urgent need to enhance electricity production, modernize water supply systems, and expand desalination capabilities, particularly in underserved regions. The Chinese partners showed readiness to provide engineering expertise, equipment, and investment channels to support these goals. Tags: ChinaChinese FirmslibyaReconstruction Fund

Italian Companies Eye Benghazi Growth Opportunities

Belgassem Khalifa Haftar, Director General of Libya's Reconstruction and Development Fund, announced that major development projects in Benghazi are set to launch by the end of next year, as part of the city's transformation into a leading economic center in Libya. Speaking during the 'Amarna' podcast alongside Italian Ambassador to Libya, Gianluca Alberini, Haftar said the recent Libyan–Italian Economic Forum has opened wide channels of cooperation between Italy and Benghazi. The forum saw participation from nearly 100 Italian companies, signaling renewed international confidence in Libya's eastern region. He emphasized that Benghazi has now embarked on a serious path of reconstruction and growth, and that its economic revival is unmatched in recent history. 'By the end of next year, several large-scale projects will be inaugurated as scheduled,' he stated. Italian Ambassador Alberini echoed these sentiments, noting the momentum in Benghazi's development, and affirming that Italian firms are ready to begin operations following their participation in the forum. The remarks reflect a growing effort to attract foreign investment, rebuild critical infrastructure, and position Benghazi as a strategic gateway for economic recovery and international trade. Libya has been in chaos since a NATO-backed uprising toppled longtime leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. The county has for years been split between rival administrations. Libya's economy, heavily reliant on oil, has suffered due to the ongoing conflict. The instability has led to fluctuations in oil production and prices, impacting the global oil market and Libya's economy. The conflict has led to a significant humanitarian crisis in Libya, with thousands of people killed, and many more displaced. Migrants and refugees using Libya as a transit point to Europe have also faced dire conditions. The planned elections for December 2021 were delayed due to disagreements over election laws and the eligibility of certain candidates. This delay has raised concerns about the feasibility of a peaceful political transition. Despite the ceasefire, security remains a significant concern with sporadic fighting and the presence of mercenaries and foreign fighters. The unification of the military and the removal of foreign forces are crucial challenges. Tags: Belgassem HaftarbenghazilibyaLibya Reconstruction Fund
