Norwich City approach Liam Manning to be next manager

Norwich City are making an official approach for Bristol City manager Liam Manning as they ramp up their search for a new head coach. Manning is expected to hold talks with Norwich later this week over the role, with compensation understood to be around the £800,000 mark. Norwich have conducted a thorough interview process after the dismissal of Johannes Hoff Thorup towards the end of the Championship season. Former Wolves manager Gary O'Neil and Pep Lijnders, the former assistant to Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, are two of the contenders who have been interviewed by the Carrow Road hierarchy. Manning has emerged as Norwich's No. 1 target and negotiations are now expected to advance in the coming days. The 39 year old guided Bristol City to the Championship play-offs, losing to Sheffield United in both legs of the semi-final. He is regarded as a proven operator in the division, and Norwich believe he will be the perfect fit to lead them towards a brighter future. Norwich's sporting director Ben Knapper is leading the recruitment process and has been backed by the club's ownership to appoint Manning. Jack Wilshere, the former Arsenal and England midfielder, took caretaker charge for the final two games after Thorup's dismissal but confirmed his decision to leave over the weekend. He wrote on Instagram: 'I can confirm that I have today left Norwich City in order to pursue my own career as a Head Coach. 'I'd like to thank everyone at Norwich for the opportunity to continue my coaching journey with you all, I built some relationships that will continue to grow. Thank you to the incredible Canaries fans for welcoming me so warmly from the very first moment I joined. 'I've loved every minute of my time at the club and I'd like to wish you all the very best for the future. Jack.'

Wilshere leaves Norwich by mutual agreement

Norwich City have formally parted company with first-team coach Jack Wilshere by mutual agreement. The former Arsenal and England midfielder was interim boss for the final two games of the season - a goalless draw away to Middlesbrough and a 4-2 home win over Cardiff City. But the club decided against considering him for the full-time role, preferring instead to look externally for a successor to Johannes Hoff Thorup, who was sacked in April. Wilshere, 33, joined Thorup's backroom team in October last year, having been in charge of Arsenal's under-18 side. Wilshere to leave Norwich after being overlooked for job "Jack made a big impact here in the time he was with us," said Canaries sporting director Ben Knapper, who worked at Arsenal when Wilshere was a player there. "He built great connections with our players and staff, and we're all sad to see him move on. "We were all very grateful for him stepping in as our interim head coach for the final two games of the season, but we understand and respect his desire to further explore opportunities elsewhere. "He leaves with our very best wishes, and we'll follow his progress closely. I've no doubt he'll go on to have a very successful coaching career in the senior game." Knapper has previously said the club would take its time in appointing a successor to Thorup, but the BBC understands they could be announced next week.
