Melbourne police: Homeless man faces charges after lewd act in view of kids at playground
A 33-year-old man was arrested Aug. 13 after police said was spotted at a Melbourne playground lying on his back while carrying out a sex act as two young children watched.
Jose Luis O'Neill Caraballo, described as homeless by Melbourne police, was charged with lewd and lascivious exhibition, exposure of sexual organs and resisting an officer without violence, arrest reports show.
'We don't know if there are any other victims,' said Sgt. Ben Slover of the Melbourne Police Department.
Police said the incident happened about 6:45 p.m. Aug. 13 at the Oxford Ridge Playground, located in the 800 block of Croton Road. Two juveniles, ages 10 and 11, contacted authorities after they spotted Carabello lying on his back at the playground actively engaged in a "lewd act," Slover said.
Officers who responded to the call attempted to talk to Carabello, who then fled, police said. He was later arrested without incident.
Carabello was ordered held on a $1,000 bond at the Brevard County Jail Complex.
No court date has been set.
