Celtic-bound Tierney's four-word message after final Arsenal outing
The Scotland internationalist, who will join Celtic in the summer, netted in the final league match of the season as Arsenal won 2-1 against Southampton. Tierney opened the scoring for Arsenal in the 43rd minute as he swept home from a Ben White cross in the first half. The 27-year-old was also named as the club player of the match in his final outing for Arsenal. Tierney shared pictures of his celebration on his personal Instagram as he was lifted into the air by his team-mates. Read more: In the caption, Tierney added: "One for the road". Tierney will become a Celtic player again this summer as he joins the club on a free transfer. The club confirmed Tierney would be back at Parkhead as a player in July 2025. Arsenal boss said of the departing Tierney: 'He said it yesterday, I'm going to score in my last Arsenal match, and he's done it! 'So, credit to him, a special thank you to him. He's been part of the journey, and he's won with me. It's true that he went to Sociedad for a few months, but it's been a joy to work with him, a really special character. We wish him and his family all the very best. 'The doors of this club are open for him – he's someone very, very liked at the club, in the dressing room, and we want to wish him the best.'

Arsenal: Kieran Tierney typifies biggest issue as Gunners enjoy fitting end to difficult season
As final days of the seasons go, this was about as cliche as it gets from Arsenal. Three points, some final appearances for several players and a farewell goal for Kieran Tierney just to round it off. All of it was, fittingly, played in glorious sunshine and about as close to the beach as you can get when playing in the Premier League. This game had that on-the-beach feel to it, too, and that was hardly surprising. Both of these sides were essentially playing for nothing, with their fates at either end of the table already decided. Mikel Arteta's team reflected that and arguably four of the XI he picked could have been playing their last game for Arsenal. Tierney was one of those and the fact he was deployed at left centre-back summed up the patched-up side Arteta had thrown together. It also typified the injuries the Gunners have had in defence all season. Riccardo Calafiori was the latest absentee, here, and it led to Tierney having to fill in. The Scot did well, though, and he was arguably man of the match. He took his goal well, flicking the ball home at the near post after Ben White's cross had picked him out. Tierney was a popular scorer among the away fans, who spent much of the afternoon going through their full songbook. The goal from Tierney was out of kilter with a flat first half and was a nice moment for the Scot, who will be leaving next month when his contract expires. He is set to be rejoining his boyhood club Celtic and this was a the ideal way for him to sign off his time in north London. Southampton showed some fight in the second half, with their new boss Will Still sat in the stands watching on. Ross Stewart headed home an equaliser after the break, rising highest from a corner, to bring some joy to the home fans. Arteta, sat in the stands next to owner Josh Kroenke due to a touchline ban, sent for the cavalry after that. On came Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard with just over 30 minutes to go. Kai Havertz and Myles Lewis-Skelly followed them shortly after and it almost immediately paid off, with Saka having a goal ruled out for offside. Eventually, it was another substitute, Martin Odegaard, who supplied the winner. Picking the ball up outside the box, the Norwegian arrowed an effort into the bottom corner with just one minute of normal time remaining. After a difficult season for Odegaard, it was a nice ending and summed up good afternoon's work for Arsenal.

Celtic-bound Kieran Tierney scores on Arsenal farewell
He would be hoping to bow out in style after six years in North London and he did just that by opening the scoring after 43 minutes. Ben White raced down the right hand side to latch onto a through ball and provided the cross for Tierney to divert goalward with his weaker right foot. The Hoops hero was clearly delighted and it showed in his celebration while the Arsenal fans would then serenade the player they took to quicky after his £25million move in 2019. Tierney will now enjoy a break before joining up with his Celtic teammates for pre-season over the summer ahead of a season in which Rodgers hopes he will help the club fare better in the Champions League. And after the disappointment of yesterday's Scottish Cup final defeat to Aberdeen, a treble will no doubt be on his wishlist too.

‘Horrible day' – Brit tennis star reveals rugby ace boyfriend's rejection caused her dismal form before French Open
JODIE BURRAGE admits that painful Lions rejection for rugby boyfriend Ben White ruined her clay-court preparations. The world No.169 went through an emotional wringer as she waited to find out if Toulon ace White would be part of Andy Farrell's 38-man squad for the trip to Australia. 6 6 6 Scrum-half White, 26, missed out – the travelling contingent was announced on May 8 at an glitzy presentation at the O2 Arena – but is likely to go on Scotland 's summer tour against the Maori All Blacks, Fiji and Samoa. In the build-up to that decision, as the best rugby stars from Britain and Ireland waited to discover their fate, Burrage 's form on clay nosedived on court – she lost three out of four matches, the last one in straight sets to world No.201 Mai Hontama. Burrage – who makes her French Open main debut next week – said: 'It has been tough for him, the last few weeks, with certain decisions. But he's doing the best he can. 'Is he on standby for the Lions? They don't hear. They don't get told anything. It was a horrible day. 'It's madness how they don't hear anything. I didn't realise how it would be. Sat there watching (on TV) wasn't the nicest experience. 'He has done the best he can. He has responded to it better than I probably would. 'You would hopefully imagine that he'd be next if anything was to happen. 'I want the best for him. That's the ultimate dream for any 15s rugby player. We'll see. 6 6 'It's not his last opportunity to get into that team either. He'll keep working hard. He'll get there at some point. 'The 'not knowing' was probably the worst. Now the decision has been made and he's got his goals and he can move on from that, he's been a lot better. We'll be fine from now – no more distractions! 'To be fair this was probably the only time anything's ever distracted me (on court). Professional sport is so emotional, up-and-down, and when you put two together, it's carnage. 'You've got to take the highs with the lows so he'll be fine. We're doing fine!' Burrage – who faces American Danielle Collins in round one – was comforted by White when she got cruelly injured in her last practice session before heading to the 2024 Roland Garros tournament. Scans showed Burrage, 25, suffered a 'near full rupture' of one of her ankle ligaments after attempting to retrieve a Katie Boulter drop-shot. The Surrey star -- who has slumped to British No.7 spot due to her injury layoff -- said: 'I'm happy to be here. Didn't make it last year. 'I got a reminder on my phone that this time last year was when I did my ankle in prep for the French. My flight was the next day or two days later when it happened. 'I didn't have an amazing practice day here on Friday. 'So, I needed that reminder that I was sat on my couch with my foot in a boot and on crutches. I don't take where I am for granted. 'But I practised with Emma Raducanu and she hit a drop-shot, exactly the same thing, and I didn't run for that. I didn't want to take that risk again! 'Happy to step on the court now. Hopefully I can do some damage.'

British tennis star opens up on her rugby player boyfriend's agony at Lions tour snub - and reveals it has affected her own form ahead of French Open debut
Jodie Burrage has revealed her rugby star boyfriend Ben White 's anguish at his Lions Tour snub - and admitted her own form on the tennis court suffered as a result. Scotland and Toulon scrum-half White was considered among the most unfortunate to miss out on Andy Farrell's 38-man squad for the tour of Australia later this summer. World No169 Burrage, who is making her debut at the French Open, said: 'It has been tough for him the last few weeks with certain decisions. But he's doing the best he can.' Rather than being informed via a discreet phone call, Lions hopefuls are left to discover their fate along with the rest of the world by watching the live reveal, which this year was at the O2 Arena in London, on May 8. 'It was a horrible day,' said the 25-year-old Burrage. 'It's madness how they don't hear anything. I didn't realise how it would be. Sat there watching wasn't the nicest experience. 'He has done the best he can. He has responded to it better than I probably would. You would hopefully imagine he would be next if anything was to happen. 'That is the ultimate dream for any rugby player. We will see. He will keep working hard and will get there at some point.' Burrage arrives in Paris with just one win on clay in five matches. 'I've actually been practicing well it just hasn't gone on the match court,' she said. 'I've been a bit preoccupied mentally and that's taken more out of me than I thought the last few weeks. My focus hasn't been there and the proper fight.' Asked whether some of that mental preoccupation was due to White's rejection from the squad, she acknowledged: 'To be honest, yes. He's dealt with it very well but he's been different to normal. 'When you're in a relationship you've got to be there for your other half and he did that a lot for me last year when I spent six months out (an ankle injury forced her out of Roland Garros and Wimbledon last year). 'So I've tried to be there for him the last few weeks, keep him positive and happy and it probably did take more than I thought out of me.' Asked about the difficulty of navigating the ups and downs of two parallel sporting careers as a couple, Burrage said: 'To be fair this was probably the only time anything's ever distracted me. 'It's a learning experience for me to try and differentiate but at the end of the day it is what it is. 'Professional sport is so emotional, up and down and when you put two together its carnage. But it's good carnage and it's bad carnage. 'You've got to take the highs with the lows so he'll be fine. We'll be fine. We're doing fine!' White is at the Monaco Grand Prix this weekend and Toulon have a huge third-vs-second match against Bordeaux to prepare for - but he is still planning to be here for Burrage's first-round match against Danielle Collins. 'He's hopefully going to get a flight out Monday morning and go back Monday night because he's in training on Tuesday,' said Burrage. 'So, chaos - but that's what it's like with us!'
