Blue Angels showcase F/A-18 jets at Augusta air show
AUGUSTA, Ga (WJBF) – They are the second oldest formal aerobatic team in the world flying in aircrafts like the F/A-18 jet and C-130 carrier.
We were able to get a look into their pre-show practice and speak with Sergeant Benaiah Smith, who said it never gets old flying with the Blue Angels.
'The Blue Angels are here to demonstrate Marine Corps and Navy aviation and their capabilities, showing it off to the rest of the world.' said Smith.
The Blue Angels reached out to Sergeant Evan Scureman, who was named the 2025 Firefighter of the Year by the Augusta Fire Department, to give him the chance to ride on the C-130 'Fat Albert'
'I mean it's a once in a lifetime opportunity to be able to come and do something that people could only dream of doing, I think it's a really great honor, probably is the best way to put it, it's something I'll remember forever.' Scureman said.
The pilots train for the air show months prior along with more practice once they get to the airport.
Smith said, 'The scenery, going new places, I haven't traveled a lot of the U.S., so this is a great opportunity to see towns and cities all over America.'
If you want to see the planes in action, the air show is Saturday and Sunday at the Augusta Regional Airport.
