"Street Fighter" Movie Loses Release, "Beneath the Storm" Shifts to July 2026 and Renamed "Shiver"
Yara Sameh In a slew of changes to its slate of upcoming films, Sony has removed Legendary's 'Street Fighter' film adaptation, originally set for a March 20, 2026 debut, from its release calendar and shifted Tommy Wirkola's shark thriller 'Beneath the Storm,' now titled 'Shiver,' from August 2025 to July 2026. 'Street Fighter' will be co-produced and developed by Capcom, the Japanese video game developer who launched the original franchise in 1987, and Legendary, who scooped up the TV and film rights for the prolific game series in 2023. Further details about the film, such as plot, cast, director,r and writer, are all currently unknown. If eventually rescheduled, this wouldn't be the first time 'Street Fighter' made its way to theaters. Universal produced a big screen adaptation of the game in 1994, which starred Jean-Claude Van Damme, Kylie Minogue, Ming-Na Wen and Raul Julia. In 2009, 20th Century Fox released its own spin on the franchise with 'Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li' starring Kristin Kreuk. Both movies were critical and commercial flops. Wirkola's 'Beneath the Storm,' now 'Shiver,' was originally slated for release on Aug. 1, 2025, but will now have to wait just under a year to hit cinemas. The date shift was to better align the film with the summer blockbuster season. While plot details remain under wraps, the film stars Phoebe Dynevor ('Bridgerton,' 'Fair Play'), Whitney Peak ('Gossip Girl,' 'Hocus Pocus 2') and Djimon Hounsou ('Rebel Moon,' 'A Quiet Place: Day One'). Adam McKay and Kevin Messick serve as producers. Sony Takes Legendary's ‘Street Fighter' Off the Calendar, Gives ‘Beneath the Storm' New Title, Release Date
Less than a month after the film landed director Kitao Sakurai, Sony has removed Legendary's planned adaptation of the 'Street Fighter' video game franchise from the release calendar. The studio also shifted release of Tommy Wirkola's upcoming shark thriller 'Beneath the Storm,' moving it from August 2025 to July 3, 2026 to serve as a centerpiece of its blockbuster slate. That film also has a new name to go with the new release date, and is now called 'Shiver.' Emmy nominee Kitao Sakurai was announced as director for 'Street Fighter' in February. The fate of that film is not known, but if it gets rescheduled, it will be co-developed and co-produced with Capcom, the video game developer and publisher behind the long-running franchise of fighting games. 'Street Figher' was last adapted for live-action in 1994, with a commercially successful and critically brutalized take starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, Ming Na Wen and Raul Julia, in what would be the celebrated actor's final role. And as it happens, his performance was singled out by critics and fans alike as excellent despite the film's flaws. Wirkola's 'Shiver' (née 'Beneath the Storm') will star Phoebe Dynevor and though plot details remain under wraps, it's understood the story involves sharks. Whitney Peak and Djimon Hounsou also star in the film, which Wirkola wrote and directed with Adam McKay and Kevin Messick producing through their Hyperobject Industries banner. Wirkola is best known for his instant classic 2022 Christmas action film 'Violent Night,' starring David Harbour as Santa Claus in what is essentially a 'Die Hard' plot with Old St. Nick as the action hero. Phoebe Dynevor joins Joseph Gordon-Levitt in thriller 'Pendulum'
Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor has been cast opposite Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the upcoming thriller Pendulum, directed by Mark Heyman and produced by Darren Aronofsky. The film, described as a "terrifying new genre film", follows a young couple, Patrick (Gordon-Levitt) and Abigail (Dynevor), as they embark on a journey to a new-age retreat in New Mexico. The couple is drawn to the retreat by the promise of healing after a traumatic event, but Patrick soon becomes distrustful of the retreat's enigmatic leader, even as Abigail falls under her spell, according to Deadline. As tensions build, the couple must determine whether the group's unconventional spiritual practices offer genuine healing or mask a terrifying truth that threatens to consume them both. Dynevor, best known for her starring role in the hit Netflix series Bridgerton and her acclaimed performance in Fair Play, is set to have a busy year ahead. She has several projects in the works, including the thriller Beneath the Storm, set to be released later this year, and A24's dark comedy Famous, in which she stars opposite Zac Efron.

Phoebe Dynevor Joins Jake Gyllenhaal in New Original Movie from M. Night Shyamalan and Nicholas Sparks
Yara Sameh Phoebe Dynevor is in talks to star opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in M. Night Shyamalan's next project, a supernatural romantic thriller based on an original story co-created by Shyamalan and global bestselling novelist Nicholas Sparks. Shyamalan and Sparks are independently writing a screenplay and a novel, respectively, based on the same original story. Both projects will be based on the same concept and set of characters, but tailored to their respective mediums. Shyamalan and Ashwin Rajan will produce through Blinding Edge Pictures, alongside Sparks' longtime producing partner Theresa Park and Marc Bienstock. Sparks is executive producer. Shyamalan's Blinding Edge Pictures will produce the film, which is in discussions with Warner Bros for theatrical release. Best known for her star-making role in Bridgerton and critically acclaimed role in "Fair Play", Dynevor has a busy year ahead of her that includes the thriller "Beneath the Storm", set to bow later this year. She most recently wrapped production on A24's dark comedy "Famous" where she stars opposite Zac Efron.
