He even started for the Nerazzurri in their opening match against Monterrey. However, the 29-year-old subsequently pulled out of the squad due to his lingering ankle issue flaring up. Eventually, the decision was made that Pavard would return to Europe to focus on resting and healing up in view of next season, rather than participating further in the Club World Cup.
