Bentley's Slightly More Affordable SUV Is Impersonating A Porsche

Like it or not, the social experiment that is the ultra-luxury super SUV has been successful for automakers, and now that the Bentayga is one of those success stories, Bentley is searching for more ways of satisfying its customers. They love their Bentaygas, but in dense European city centers, the SUV is just too long to legally park on the street. To satisfy those Madrid, London, and Rome-based customers and attract a few more, the as-yet-unnamed "urban SUV" will measure less than 16.4 feet (5 meters) in length. And according to the Autoblog spies who snapped these images, we're looking at the forthcoming newbie, albeit obviously in a Porsche frock. In February of this year, the patent and trademark sleuths at CarMoses discovered two new Bentley filings that could be earmarked for the incoming SUV: Mayon and Barnato. The former likely references the active Mayon Volcano in the Philippines, since the Bentayga was named after Roque Bentayga, a rock formation on the Canary Islands within the volcanic caldera of Tejeda. The latter has been trademarked by Crewe before and references Woolf Barnato, a Le Mans-winning Bentley Boy and chairman who helped keep the company alive in the mid-1920s. When Bentley first announced this new electric SUV, it said that it would arrive in 2026, saying that it expected the market's appetite for EVs to grow to a sustainable level by then. It has since delayed that introductory date by a single year, but it ought to be worth the wait, with Bentley promising the EV will be "much more agile" than a Bentayga. Crewe did not confirm what would underpin the new SUV, but at the time of the announcement, the PPE architecture beneath the Audi Q6 e-tron and the Porsche Macan Electric seemed the most sensible. Now that our spies tell us the Porsche mule in these images is a Bentley, those suspicions are all but confirmed. Bentley says that some elements of its extraordinary EXP 15 concept will inform the styling, though exactly how can't be gleaned from the proportions of this prototype. Expect around 350-400 miles of range, fast-charging, and something new. Bentley's head of R&D, Dr. Matthias Rabe, spoke during the EV's announcement, saying that the sound would not be purely synthetic, nor a copy of what other automakers have been doing. Details would not be divulged, but he hinted that Bentley is "developing something no one else is doing right now." Stay tuned. Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

Bentley throws out the rule book as it enters a new electric era

Bentley has hinted at its future with a raised all-electric limousine, the EXP15 concept. Should it be built, it will not look exactly like the show car, however, nor will it be the first electric Bentley. That will be a new SUV that is smaller, sportier and faster than the manufacturer's petrol-powered luxury SUV, the Bentayga. This new SUV – to be unveiled late next year and as yet unnamed – will nonetheless exhibit some of the bold styling displayed on the EXP15.

Going off-grid with the £190k 'Bentley of caravans'

The information I'm sent before I collect the Bruder EXP-7 (I feel a little strange calling it a caravan, but we'll come back to that) contains some surprises. There's no bedding or kitchenware inside, I'm told, but there is a washer-dryer. Now, I went caravanning when I was a kid, and I can still remember the noise of the pump when we had to pedal a lever repeatedly to draw water to the tap. People with water containers that were round barrels so they could be rolled rather than carried across the campsite were positively flash gits. But now I'm going to try a caravan with a washing machine? Swoon. I'm sure things have moved on a bit in the conventional caravan world, but even by today's standards the Bruder EXP-7 is a bit special. It's from an Australian company founded by two brothers – hence the Bruder logo with kangaroos as umlauts – who grew up camping and being driven around the outback, and who kind of haven't stopped. They would go to places that would quickly leave a conventional caravan looking like it had been used in one of those novelty banger races, so what they make, it says here, are described as 'luxury off-road expedition trailers'. Sometimes companies over-egg a description, but maybe not this lot, I think, as I have a nose around the EXP-7 outside Bentley's Crewe factory. There's no official tie-in with Bentley, by the way. The people there just thought the Bruder was quite the thing, and I think they're keen to remind people that the Bentayga is a properly accomplished tow car and off-roader. There is a perception sometimes that luxury is about five-star hotels and restaurants you can't get into. I'm not sure that's the only case: luxury, for me, is naffing off from all of that, being in a wide open space, on your own terms, in your own time, where the office can't find you and you can't get social media fomo because there's no phone reception.

Bentley's first electric SUV to debut in 2026, won't replace Bentagya: Report

The new electric SUV by Bentley is to be designed and manufactured at Bentley's headquarters in Crewe, UK. Although detailed specifications remain under wraps, the initial teaser image reveals a sleek design with a silhouette akin to the Bentayga Check Offers British luxury carmaker Bentley has confirmed that its first-ever all-electric vehicle will break cover by the end of 2026. Marking a bold step in the brand's electrification journey, the debut model will be a compact urban SUV that measures under five metres in length — making it smaller than the current Bentayga, yet still sizeable by most standards. Bentley electric SUV: A standalone nameplate Unlike expectations that Bentley might electrify the Bentayga nameplate, the brand's first EV will be a completely new model, a report by stated. It will not replace the Bentayga, which continues to be Bentley's best-seller globally. Instead, the new electric SUV will flank it and assist the brand in expanding its customer base in the EV market. The vehicle will be shorter than the standard Bentayga (5125mm) and significantly more compact than the Bentayga EWB (5305mm). For context, it will still be longer than many mainstream SUVs, including the Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series, which also falls just under the five-metre mark. Bentley EV strategy: From hybrids to full electrification Bentley has realigned its electrification timeline, with the goal of becoming a full electric brand by 2035 — five years behind its previous target of 2030. This adjustment comes in view of changing global regulations and uncertain demand, with plug-in hybrid powertrains still playing a vital role in the meantime. The carmaker has already started the process of phasing out the older powertrains. Having discontinued the legendary 6.0-litre W12 engine in 2024, Bentley now depends on V6 and V8 hybrid powertrains in the entire Flying Spur, Continental GT, and Bentayga lineup. From 2027 onwards, Bentley intends to introduce a new hybrid or electric model every year, with the aim to make the transition to a zero-emissions future in a gradual but steady manner. Although specifications have yet to be released, this model should represent a new dawn for Bentley's luxury EVs and cater to a client segment that wants to be sustainable and exclusive. Bentley sent its twin-turbo V8 Bentayga SUV up the Goodwood Festival of Speed's hillclimb over the weekend. It managed a time of 55.8s, which it claimed as a new Goodwood record. Aston saw that, and presumably said 'hold my zero per cent beer', because it decided to send its also-twin-turbo-V8 DBX S up the hill, recording a time of 53.12s. Saying that, Bentley's run was set in 'partially wet conditions' by test driver and 'Bentley specialist' Andy Marson. And it's still quick, taking a second off the time delivered by the old W12-engined Bentayga, itself set in dry conditions. Indeed, Bentley said Marson saw a peak speed of 130mph before he slammed on the anchors just before Molecomb. The DBX S is the most powerful DBX ever built, with 717bhp and 663lb ft, able to blast from 0-62mph in 3.3s and on to a top speed of 193mph. Want to see what all that feels like on board?
