Young people equipped with work skills

THE three-day Success Ladder Work Readiness Conference held at The Junction in Kloof recently was described by the 30 young delegates as a fun and interactive experience. 'The objective of the event was to equip people to get the job and keep the job,' said one of the organisers, Adele Benvie, who is also the CEO of the Success Company. She said their Support Services Sector Action Team identified the pain point that candidates are well prepared for the role but don't know how to put their best foot forward when applying for a job or when in a job. 'Based on this, the Support Services team then created a work readiness event. The three-day conference was completed with gamification, music, activities, engagement as well as highly impactful and real life skills that prepared people for the workplace so that they can get the job and keep the job,' said Benvie. The modules were presented by industry experts, bringing the latest relevant information to the session. On the third day there was a graduation ceremony where the participants were awarded certificates. One of the attendees, Matthew Powell, said after experiencing the second day of the Success Ladder workshop he had already learnt a lot in a short period. 'From workplace mental health, different ways of communication, leadership and business skills, this is valuable information that has shifted my perspective on different ways of viewing conflicts and challenges and how I interact with them.' He added that the information he received was valuable and that he would cherish it throughout his working career. 'I am blessed to have this opportunity at this time when I am kick-starting my career with this much of a mental head start,' he said.
