Jury unable to reach verdict in Albuquerque murder trial
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A jury has failed to reach a verdict in a 2022 murder case that stemmed from a fight downtown. Isaac Martinez is accused of shooting and killing Jonathan Garza outside the Canvas Artistry near First St. and Central Ave. Santa Fe man charged with murdering his brother Prosecutors said Garza was trying to stop a fight involving his brother when he was shot, but the defense argued police mishandled the investigation. The Bernalillo County District Attorney's office told KRQE News 13 that the trial ended with a hung jury, with 10 jurors in favor of a conviction and two for acquittal. 3 teens charged with murder of unhoused Albuquerque woman to remain in custody
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Three of five teens accused of killing an Albuquerque woman who was unhoused will remain detained until trial, Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman announced Monday. The DA did not specifically name the suspects, but provided their ages and brief descriptions about their alleged involvement in a June 10 robbery attempt targeting homeless people near 9201 Central Ave NE that left Marlene Gutierrez dead. According to the DA, a 16-year-old and 17-year-old who were armed and a 16-year-old who reportedly supplied one of the weapons and was already on probation for a gun offense, will remain in custody. A witness said three of the teens decided to rob homeless people for money to buy gas. Police said the teens stopped their vehicle near an alleyway south of 9201 Central Ave., N.E. Two of the teens, Morris and Spencer, got out of the vehicle armed with handgun and approached people in the alley and demanded money. During the attempted robbery, police said someone fired gunshots at Morris and Spencer, and the two teens returned gunfire. During the exchange of gunfire, Marlene Gutierrez, 35, was struck by a bullet. The teens are charged with an open count of murder, attempt to commit a felony wit armed robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy wit armed robbery, tampering with evidence and unlawful possession of a handgun. New Mexico woman and son indicted on first-degree murder charges
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A grand jury indicted a New Mexico woman and her son on first-degree murder after they were accused of killing a man at his house. Late last month, a woman called police and said two people were banging on her door. The suspects were identified as 44-year-old Munah Green and her 17-year-old son Rickey Rodgers. Bernalillo County DA provides update on Operation Route 66 in Albuquerque Police said the woman's boyfriend, Richard Powell, confronted the two outside, and that's when Green told her son to shoot Powell after the argument escalated.
