OCD: P4 billion in infra damaged by Crising, Habagat, LPA
'In terms of damages, meron pa tayong P4 billion worth of infrastructure damage as reported. Damage to infrastructure worth P4 billion was reported in the country due to the impact of Tropical Cyclone Crising, the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat, and a low-pressure area (LPA), according to the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) on Wednesday. 'In terms of damages, meron pa tayong P4 billion worth of infrastructure damage as reported. 'For agriculture naman, ang losses already amounts to P217.5 million pesos dahil apektado po ang ating corn, rice, and other high value crops na pananim dito sa ating bagyong ito,' he added. Alejandro said nearly 1.9 million people, or 533,213 families, were affected by the bad weather. Of the affected population, around 25,000 families were staying in evacuation centers while 21,000 families were taking shelter in other places. On July 16, a low-pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) developed into Tropical Depression Crising. On July 19, Crising intensified as a severe tropical storm and exited the PAR. Despite Crising's exit, Habagat continued to bring rains in some parts of the country. Twelve people were reported dead due to the impact of Crising and Habagat, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Wednesday. Most of the reported deaths were recorded in Calabarzon, with five. This was followed by Negros Island Region with three. One fatality was reported each in Metro Manila, Mimaropa, Northern Mindanao, and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARRM). The victims died due to drowning and falling trees. Nine people were reported missing and seven others were reported injured. OCD: 42 areas flooded due to Bising, Habagat
At least 42 areas were submerged in floodwaters due to the rains brought by Typhoon Bising and the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat, the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) said. In Oscar Oida's report in '24 Oras' on Thursday, the OCD said the northern portion of Luzon was the most affected by the rains. 'Ang affected talaga ay Regions 1, 3, CAR, Region 2, and of course, kasama ang NCR. Generally, northern Luzon po ang apektadong lugar,' said OCD officer-in-charge Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro IV. (The affected were Regions 1, 3, CAR, Region 2, and of course, NCR. Generally, it was northern Luzon that was heavily affected.) Of the 42 affected areas, the OCD official said 35 are still flooded. The floodwaters have subsided in seven other areas. Alejandro said Blue Alert status is still in place. The impact of the bad weather was evident in many areas. For instance, a landslide occurred at a portion of a rock shed that was being constructed in Kennon Road near Baguio Medical Center in Baguio City. Also along Kennon Road, a large tree fell causing traffic and power supply interruption in the nearby barangay. Meanwhile, residents in Laoag, Ilocos Norte were surprised by the sight of a tornado. State weather bureau PAGASA said the tornado was caused by the thunderstorm due to Habagat. The downpour also caused knee-deep floods in some portions of Baseco Compound in Manila. The rains affected 44 hectares of newly planted rice in Mlang, Cotabato, the barangay council estimated. Data from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) showed that one death was reported and still being validated in Metro Manila due to 'Bising' and Habagat. 38 Luzon areas flooded due to Bising, Habagat —OCD
The Office of Civil Defense on Monday said 38 areas in Luzon were flooded due to the rains brought by Typhoon Bising and the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat. OCD officer-in-charge Assistant Secretary Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro IV said that no casualties or missing persons have been reported so far. 'No major incident. No major floodings in a way as compared to 'yung mga previous bagyo natin, yung 'KLMNOP,' Alejandro told Dobol B TV in an interview. Alejandro was referring to the consecutive tropical cyclones that hit the country in 2024—Kristine, Leon, Marce, Nila, Ofel, and Pepito. 'So very minor pa lang ang epekto nito. Parang practice lang,' he added. The OCD is also monitoring the situation in Pangasinan as the Agno River may swell and cause flooding in nearby areas. According to Alejandro, assistance was sought to cover 235 families in Narvacan, Ilocus Sur. Bising (international name: Danas) is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Monday morning, according to PAGASA. However, Bising is enhancing Habagat which will bring rains. At 4 a.m., Bising's center was located 405 kilometers north northwest of Itbayat, Batanes. The typhoon was packing maximum sustained winds of 130 km/h near the center and with gustiness of up to 180 km/h and central pressure of 970 hpa.— AOL, GMA Integrated News

Cyclone formerly Bising now a typhoon, may re-enter PAR by Sunday night
Tropical cyclone Danas, formerly named Bising, developed into a typhoon on Sunday and may re-enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) in the evening, according to PAGASA. According to its 11 a.m. tropical cyclone advisory, the state weather bureau said Danas will continue to move northeastward over the next 36 hours. 'It may re-enter the northwestern boundary of PAR tonight or early tomorrow morning (7 July), and is expected to exit immediately thereafter,' PAGASA said. Danas' center was estimated at 10 a.m. to be located at 385 kilometers west northwest of Itbayat, Batanes. The typhoon has maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 150 km/h, and heading north northeastward at 10 km/h. From its center, strong to typhoon-force winds are extending outwards up to 330 km. 'DANAS is forecast to steadily intensify over the next 24 hours,' the state weather bureau said. 'A weakening trend is expected over the East China Sea due to unfavorable conditions. It may weaken into a remnant low by Thursday (10 July) as it interacts with the landmass of China,' it added. Gale warning Meanwhile, a gale warning was hoisted on Sunday morning over the northern seaboard of Northern Luzon. Up to very rough seas with waves reaching as much as 4.5 meters tall are expected in the seaboard of Batanes and the western seaboard of Babuyan Islands. 'Sea travel is risky for all types of tonnage of vessels. All mariners must remain in port or, if underway, seek shelter or safe harbor or soon as possible until winds and wave subside,' PAGASA said. Up to rough seas with waves reaching 3.5 meters tall are expected in the western seaboard of Ilocos Norte. 'Mariners of small seacrafts, including all types of motorbancas, are advised not to venture out to sea under these conditions, especially if inexperienced or operating ill-equipped vessels,' the state weather bureau said. Up to moderate seas with waves reaching 2.5 meters tall are expected in the northwestern seaboard of Ilocos Sur and the remaining seaboards of Ilocos Norte, and up to 2.0 meters in the western seaboards of La Union, Pangasinan, and Zambales, and the remaining seaboard of Ilocos Sur. 'Mariners of motorbancas and similarly-sized vessels are advised to take precautionary measures while venturing out to sea and, if possible, avoid navigation under these conditions,' PAGASA said. In an interview on Super Radyo dzBB, OCD officer-in-charge Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro IV said the affected families are equivalent to 13,006 individuals from the Ilocos Region (Region I), Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), and Cagayan Valley (Region II). However, Alejandro noted that the number may increase since the latest data is an initial report from the OCD's field offices. He added that there have been no reported casualties so far. 'Minor in a way itong Bising, but ito naman tinitingnan 'yung ating paghahanda dahil pumasok na itong typhoon season at tuloy-tuloy na itong pag-prepare at paghanda,' Alejandro said. (Bising has a minor effect on the country, but we're looking into our preparation since we're in the typhoon season, and so we continue to prepare and be ready.) He added that there was some flooding in Regions I and II, and CAR, but it is currently subsiding. There were also five reported impassable road sections, but Alejandro said clearing operations are ongoing. He added that Bising also caused partial damage to houses. On Friday, Bising exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). It developed into a severe tropical storm on Saturday night and is expected to reach typhoon category on Sunday. PAGASA said Danas may re-enter PAR on Sunday night or early Monday morning briefly, and make landfall over mainland China on Tuesday. Danas' trough is affecting Extreme Northern Luzon on Sunday, bringing cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Batanes and Babuyan Islands. Moderate to at times heavy rains may possibly result in flash floods or landslides. At 3 a.m. Sunday, Danas was located 400 km west of Itbayat, Batanes, packing maximum sustained winds of 110 km/h near the center and with gustiness of up to 135 km/h.
