Walby Farm Park nominated for Best Family Entertainment Award
Walby Farm Park has been nominated by News & Star readers as one of the ten finalists in its 'Best Family Indoor Entertainment 2025' award. The award-winning venue, located in Crosby-on-Eden, near Carlisle, has been open since July 2008. It is run by farmer Neil Milbourn and his wife, Katie, with the help of their family. Neil and Katie said: 'It's fantastic to be nominated for the Best Family Indoor Entertainment award. 'Thank you to all our customers who have nominated us and supported us throughout the years.' Neil is taking charge of late-night lambing which is all live streamed on their YouTube channel for customers to watch behind the scenes. The family park is well-known for being a working farm, as well as an entertainment centre. Attractions include pony grooming, a 24-foot 'demon drop' slide and electric mini quads to name a few. The couple added: 'We aim to provide a day out that is excellent value and is fun for the whole family, so it's great for the whole team to have this recognition. 'Please show us your support and vote for us if you've enjoyed a day out at Walby.'

'We've worked so hard' - Just Messin' owner on award nomination
Just Messin' has been nominated by News & Star readers as one of the ten finalists in its 'Best Family Indoor Entertainment 2025' award. The children's play centre on Botchergate in Carlisle celebrates its fourth birthday this month. Christina Frost, the owner, said the nomination 'means a lot' to her. She said: 'I'm so happy. We're a small team of family and friends – my mum works alongside me – and we've worked so hard. 'It's nice to know that people appreciate what we do and to get recognition for it.' She added: 'We have a lot of regulars now and some of them have become my good friends. 'I also love how the local businesses come together to help. We collaborate with Bee Unique, Rainbow Wishes, art companies – all sorts.' The venue strives to be more than a soft play for children, with art and creativity at the heart of what they do. 'We're a family of creatives. 'When my son was younger, he didn't like sports or anything thing like that, he was very arty but there was nowhere to take him. 'Carlisle needs more places like this.' Christina and the team have all kinds of events planned for the Easter holidays, including a free mini photo shoot, tie-dye sessions, a glitter bar and special princess guests.

THE ten finalists in the News & Star's 'Best Family Indoor Entertainment 2025' award have been revealed. These finalists have been chosen by News & Star readers after a week of online nominations, which started on Monday, March 24, and concluded on Saturday, March 29. The ten finalists who will all be in the running to be crowned News & Star 'Best Family Indoor Entertainment 2025' are: Aztec Adventure Play, Crown Street, Carlisle Fusion Trampoline Park, Millrace Road, Carlisle Game On! Botchergate, Carlisle Just Messin, Botchergate, Carlisle Lake District Coast Aquarium, South Quay, Maryport Parkway Cinema Workington, Maryport Road Planet Play, Blackwood Road, Workington Red Herring Escape Rooms, West Tower Street, Carlisle Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery, Castle Street, Carlisle Walby Farm Park, Crosby-on-Eden, Carlisle News & Star readers will now be able to vote for their favourite finalist by picking up a copy of the daily newspaper between Monday, April 7, and Saturday, April 19. In addition, we will be highlighting the shortlisted Family Indoor Entertainment in our competition in the News & Star. Each of the establishments will be featured over ten issues. After this final voting stage has concluded, the winner will be crowned as the News & Star's 'Best Family Indoor Entertainment 2025' during the week commencing Monday, April 28.
