Leigh hold off Giants to go third in Super League
Betfred Super League Huddersfield (6) 24 Tries: Flanagan, Swift, Halsall, Cudjoe Goals: Flanagan (4) Leigh (12) 28 Tries: Liu, McNamara, Armstrong, Lam, Halton Goals: McNamara (4) Leigh Leopards survived a late scare to edge past Huddersfield Giants 28-24 at the John Smith's Stadium. First-half tries from Isaac Liu and Ben McNamara, and second-half scores from David Armstrong, Lachlan Lam and Frankie Halton secured the victory for the visitors. Tries from Adam Swift, Sam Halsall and Leroy Cudjoe created a frantic finish, after George Flanagan went in for Huddersfield's opening score shortly before the interval. Leigh climb to third in the Super League table, while Huddersfield remain second bottom and still waiting for a first home win of the season. Huddersfield, who had won only one of their previous 12 matches, went behind after 15 minutes when George King's error allowed Liu a free run under the posts from close range. McNamara added the extras with a simple conversion. Leigh's second try came 10 minutes later, and it was another defensive misread, this time from Swift. Keanan Brand raced clear before offloading to McNamara who drove over the line. He then composed himself to convert. But the Giants were not lying down and pulled a try back through Flanagan with half-time looming. His weaving run bamboozled the Leigh defence and he touched down uncontested under the posts. He then stepped up to convert. Shortly after the break, Leigh restored their two-score lead. Armstrong exploited another gap in the Giants defence after a risky short drop-out from Flanagan gave possession back to Leigh. McNamara's kick from a tight angle was successful as the Leopards began to pull away. Lam crossed for his first try of the season after a superb drive through the centre of the pitch. After being held up by Tuimoala Lolohea, the play was recycled before the half-back scored in the corner. This time, McNamara failed with his kick. Moments later, Lam turned provider as Leigh raced through the gears. His short offload found Halton, who went over before McNamara converted. Swift made up for his earlier error with a diving try in the left corner after a brilliant catch and pass in the build up by Adam Clune and Lolohea. Flanagan added the extras. Then the drama really kicked in, with Halsall surging through for a solo try after intercepting on his own 20-metre line, before Cudjoe raised the temperature even further with a score after Bailey Hodgson failed to take Lolohea's high kick. Despite that, and Flanagan's two conversions, Leigh held on. Huddersfield: Flanagan; Swift, Milne, Jake Bibby, Halsall; Lolohea, Clune; Powell, Woolford, King, Greenwood, Rushton, Cudjoe. Interchanges: Golding, Wilson, Burgess, Rush. Leigh: Armstrong; McIntosh, Niu, Hanley, Brand; McNamara, Lam; Ofahengaue, Ipape, Mulhearn, Halton, Trout, Liu. Interchanges: Tuitavake, Hughes, Davis, Hodgson. Referee: Jack Smith.

Leeds go third with hard-fought win over Castleford
Betfred Super League Castleford (0) 6 Tries: Senior Goals: Milnes Leeds (7) 29 Tries: Lisone 2, Newman 2, Hall Goals: Connor 4 Drop-goal: Connor Leeds Rhinos moved up to third in the Super League table with a hard-earned away victory over Castleford Tigers. It was only 7-0 at half-time with Sam Lisone's converted try just after the half-hour mark and Jake Connor's drop-goal a minute before the break the only points of a tight first half. Louis Senior responded for the Tigers early in the second period to put the hosts within one point of Leeds, but two quick tries from Harry Newman and Ryan Hall put the Rhinos in control. Newman added his second after 68 minutes and Lisone also doubled his try tally late on as Leeds leapfrogged St Helens and Leigh up to third. Castleford were down to 12 men after only eight minutes when Liam Horne was sin-binned for a trip on Connor. Leeds tried to make the most of the extra man by going the length of the pitch but a poor pass on the last tackle let the Tigers off the hook. After an arm wrestle of an opening half-hour, the Rhinos scored the first points of the contest through Lisone's score on 32 minutes with Connor converting. Connor then slotted a drop goal from in front of the posts to make it 7-0 to the visitors at half-time. Senior got Castleford's first points in the opening minute of the second half, collecting Alex Mellor's offload before crossing, with Rowan Milnes knocking over the extras to close the gap to one point. But the Rhinos extended their lead ten minutes later when Newman seized on a fumble from a Brodie Croft kick. Senior thought he had a second for the hosts after 61 minutes when he collected a loose ball to run in from 90 metres but it was ruled out as Mellor had knocked the ball on in a tackle on Connor. Hall's score just short of the hour mark – try number 343 for the veteran – moved him ahead of Mick Sullivan into standalone 19th place in the list of all-time scorers in the British game. That score made the game secure for the Rhinos but there was still time for Newman and Lisone to both get their second tries of the game to secure a fifth victory in six league matches. Castleford remain in tenth with their three wins this campaign coming from games against the two sides below them – Salford Red Devils twice and Huddersfield Giants. Castleford Tigers boss Danny McGuire: "I was really pleased with the boys, I thought they worked tirelessly and really committed, and I don't think the score reflected the contest. "Leeds were in a close contest and they knew it, but they took their opportunities, and rugby league is all about moments. I'm not pleased because we lost, but you can take a defeat if you've left everything out there, and I think we did that. "We haven't got the win tonight but we know we're on the right track and we've just got to keep working hard. "There is frustration at times because everyone wants it now. The good times are around the corner, but it will be through patience and hard work and commitment that we get there." Leeds Rhinos head coach Brad Arthur: "We're chasing just being a little bit better each week and getting our combinations right. Where we sit in the table is nice but not where our priorities are right now. If we get those things right the win column takes care of itself. "I thought it was pretty professional. We made limited errors and we talked about just making sure we got to the end of the tackle count, and that's where all our points would come. "They [Castleford] really had a crack in the first half and the amount of work they had to do took its toll on them. But it's a credit to our guys for being patient. They need to understand that we don't need to be winning on the scoreboard after 10 minutes – it doesn't matter." Castleford: Hoy; Simm, Cini, L Senior, I Senior; Asi, Milnes; Amone, Horne, Lawler, Lawler, Westerman, Mellor, Singleton. Interchanges: Hall, Mustapha, Okoro, Atkin. Sin-bin: Horne (8). Leeds: Miller; Hall, Handley, Newman, Lumb; Croft, Connor; Oledzki, O'Connor, Jenkins, Gannon, McDonnell, Watkins. Interchanges: Holroyd, Lisone, Palasia, Smith. Referee: Liam Rush.

Leaders Hull KR beat Wire in Cup final rehearsal
Betfred Super League Warrington (6) 12 Tries: Russell, Thewlis Goals: Thewlis 2 Hull KR (14) 31 Tries: Broadbent, Davies, Lewis, Burgess, May Goals: Mourgue 3 Drop-goal: Lewis Hull KR stretched their lead at the top of Super League to four points as they beat fellow Challenge Cup finalists Warrington Wolves to register an 11th league win of the campaign. Jack Broadbent powered Hull KR ahead but Warrington hit back through Dan Russell's try soon after. Tom Davies and Mikey Lewis touched down to put the Robins on top before the break, while Joe Burgess later dived in to pad out their lead. Josh Thewlis cut the deficit for Warrington after Tyrone May had sent the visitors 18 points in front, but Davies' second try of the evening, and an audacious last-second drop-goal from Lewis, wrapped up a comfortable Hull KR victory. The result continues Hull KR's impressive 2025 campaign so far and pads out their lead at the Super League summit with second-placed Wigan Warriors not playing until facing Catalans on Saturday. Warrington, on the other hand, struggled to mount a response once KR edged into the lead on what turned out to be a comfortable night for their opponents, who have lost just once in league and cup this season. Broadbent's opener came after Rodrick Tai failed to pick him up but Warrington made amends four minutes later when Ben Currie sent Russell through. Warrington's slender lead, courtesy of Josh Thewlis' kick, did not last for long as the hosts failed to deal with Jez Litten's offload leaving May to send a lofted ball to Davies to cross over. Lewis, on his 100th Super League appearance, scored his 10th try of the season having shook off a tackle to twist and turn over for Hull KR's third of the night. Burgess' score game after video referee Ben Thaler judged that he had not moved in to touch during his acrobatic dash to the corner. May's try came thanks to a crossfield move from KR which carved Warrington open - firstly Peta Hiku exchanged passes with Arthur Mourgue, with Hiku then sending May through for an emphatic score. Unnerved, however, Thewlis dotted down just moments later and converted his own try to cut the visitors' lead to 12 points, but Davies' dive to the corner and Lewis' cheeky drop-goal wrapped up the win. Sam Burgess' side will face Hull KR again in the Challenge Cup final in just over two weeks' time and will hope that his side can put a dent in what is shaping up to be an impressive campaign for the Robins. Warrington Wolves boss Sam Burgess told BBC Radio Merseyside: "I was really proud of the team. I thought we were in the game for really long periods. "We gave ourselves a bit too much to do but the effort was outstanding. We lost Oli Leyland early, I don't know how we ended up with Ben Currie in the halves with Stef Ratchford, so it was a fair effort. "They're a hard team to break down regardless. We're missing so many creative players so it was always going to be hard to score points. But we were pretty close a couple of times." Hull KR head coach Willie Peters told BBC Radio Humberside: "Warrington didn't stop and they carried on going. They didn't give up and we knew that they wouldn't as they had a lot of experienced players out. "To get a result is what we come for. There's other things to work on, certainly. We weren't perfect and we were far from it, so we need to improve. "This was our next opportunity and challenge. To come to Warrington and play is a difficult challenge. You need to be up and play well, and if not you're going to be beaten. "There was still a lot to like about what we did tonight but I'm well aware that in two weeks' time [in the Challenge Cup final] they're gonna have a totally different team than they had tonight." Warrington: Dufty; Thewlis, Tai, Wrench, Lindop; Ratchford, Leyland; Yates, Crowther, Philbin, Holroyd, Russell, Currie. Interchanges: Harrison, Wood, Whitehead, Hartill. Hull KR: Mourgue; Davies, Hiku, Broadbent, Burgess; Lewis, May; Sue, Litten, Hadley, Whitbread, Batchelor, Minchella. Interchanges: Luckley, Richardson, Tanginoa, Brown. Referee: Aaron Moore.
