Here's Where LSU Baseball Ranks Prior to SEC Tournament

The SEC Tournament is right around and corner, and with it comes the final regular season rankings. The LSU Tigers entered the week as the No. 1 team in the country, but lost a game to a very poor South Carolina team. However, they were still able to maintain their spot atop the rankings. After game one of their series against South Carolina where the Gamecocks clawed back from down 5-3 to win in the bottom of the ninth inning, there were a lot of college baseball fans saying LSU isn't locked into a top-eight seed. They ended up winning their next two games, but some fans still aren't convinced. Despite that, it appears the people who make the rankings think they're still the top dogs. Jared JonesMatthew Hinton D1 Baseball - No. 1 D1 Baseball decided to keep the Tigers at No. 1 despite their loss to the Gamecocks in game one. It may have been a bad loss, but no other team in the top-four went better than 2-1 on the week, meaning the Tigers got to keep their top spot. Baseball America - No. 1 Baseball America also has the Tigers holding onto their top spot in the rankings after a 2-1 week. Their former No. 2 team, the Auburn Tigers, went 2-2 on the weekend and fell all the way down to No. 7. Everyone else in the top-five went 2-1 and didn't do enough to leapfrog the Tigers. RPI - No. 8 Despite the series win, the Tigers remain at No. 8 in the RPI. Their loss to South Carolina impacted them much more in the RPI than the other polls, but they're still able to hold onto that crucial top-eight ranking. Advertisement Even though D1 Baseball and Baseball America think LSU is the best team in the county, I don't think they'll earn the one seed (unless they win the SEC Tournament). Their RPI and strength of schedule are a bit lower than some of the other teams, but I think it's pretty safe to say they're a lock for a top-eight seed. Is LSU softball coach Beth Torina on the hot seat after postseason loss?

Is LSU softball coach Beth Torina on the hot seat after postseason loss? LSU softball watched its season come to an end on Saturday as the Tigers were eliminated by in-state foe Southeastern Louisiana. LSU, hosting a regional, didn't even make it to Sunday. LSU began the weekend with a loss to SLU, before beating UConn to stay alive, only to lose to SLU again. For LSU, it marks the eighth consecutive season without reaching the Women's College World Series. The drought comes after LSU made three straight WCWS from 2015-17. The Tigers continue to make the NCAA Tournament every year, but struggle in the postseason. LSU has only advanced to a Super Regional twice since 2020. After the SLU loss, fans took to social media to speculate on the future of LSU head coach Beth Torina. Torina just finished her 13th season leading LSU and has 534 career wins with the Tigers. The resume is strong, but the program has stagnated in recent years. After a hot start in 2025, LSU finished just 12-12 in conference play. Will LSU softball make a change at head coach? For now, I'd say the answer is no. LSU reporter Michael Cauble made a strong point. Torina's buyout isn't nothing, and with the uncertainty facing college sports right now, paying that much to let go of a nonrevenue sport coach doesn't make a ton of sense. It would be one thing if LSU were posting losing records or missing the tournament entirely, but Torina continues to recruit at a high level and get LSU into the postseason. Fans are frustrated and want to see more, but it could be worse. Torina will likely return in 2026.

Where LSU softball ranks in RPI following SEC Tournament loss

Where LSU softball ranks in RPI following SEC Tournament loss Despite losing to Oklahoma in the second round of the SEC Tournament, LSU softball remains well-positioned in the updated RPI rankings. The Tigers rank No. 4 in the country in RPI after a 41-win regular season. LSU is No. 3 in the SEC behind No. 1 Texas A&M and No. 2 Florida. Eight of the top 10 teams in RPI hail from the SEC. LSU will certainly be a top-16 seed and host a regional in Baton Rouge, but LSU is hoping to earn a top-eight seed, which would mean a chance to host a Super Regional should LSU advance out of the first weekend. Head coach Beth Torina's team hasn't been to the World Series since 2017. LSU advanced to the Super Regional last year at Stanford but dropped the three-game series against the Cardinal. The Tigers will learn their fate during the 2025 NCAA Division I Selection Show on Sunday at 6:00 PM CT. It will air on ESPN2.

LSU softball remains undefeated after weekend tournament

Another weekend down and LSU softball remains unbeaten. LSU went 4-0 in the LSU Invitational. The Tigers began the weekend with a 10-1 win over Penn State, followed by two wins over Southern Miss, and capped the tournament with a 12-2 win over Nicholls. Beth Torina's squad is 14-0 on the year. Through 14 games, Danieca Coffey leads the team with 22 hits. Tori Edwards is leading the way with 36 total bases. Maci Bergeron also hit the 30 total base mark. Edwards and Bergeron are supplying the power, combining for seven homers on the year. On the mound, Sydney Berzon and freshman phenom Jayden Heavener lead the pitching staff. The two have combined for 71 strikeouts while limiting opponents to just nine extra-base hits on the year. Heavener faced the first adversity of her collegiate career over the weekend, surrendering five earned runs to Southern Miss. But the offense bailed the freshman out, plating 12 runs. Next up, LSU heads out west for the Judi Garman classic in Southern California. The Tigers will get it started with a meeting vs UCLA on Feb. 27.
