Nearly a million Pura scent diffusers were just recalled — here's why
Scent is a great way to transform any space. You can light a candle, spritz some perfume or use a scent diffuser to create a pleasant aroma in any room of your house. If a scent diffuser is your go-to, you'll just want to pay attention to this news: Pura Scents just recalled nearly a million diffusers. According to the recall alert, the cover on certain models can easily loosen, causing internal magnets to fall out. Read on to find out why this is considered dangerous and what to do if you have an impacted diffuser. Why were Pura scent diffusers recalled? Approximately 851,400 Pura 4 Smart Home Fragrance Diffusers were recalled by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. The impacted units were sold online at Pura, Amazon, Scheel and Target (as well as in store at Target and Scheel) between August 2023 and May 2025. These diffusers have a detachable cover that contains five magnets. The reason for the recall is that the magnets can come loose and pose an ingestion risk to children and pets. The Consumer Product Safety Commission has received three reports of magnets coming loose, though they have not received any reports of them being ingested. The recalled diffusers have the following serial number ranges: JX230000001 to JX230801425 and JX240000001 to JX240049959. If you have one of these diffusers, Pura Scents will contact you. You can also contact them to request a replacement cover by heading to their website. Other scent diffusers to use instead Perhaps you have one of the impacted diffusers, or have never had a scent diffuser and want to try one. Below, we've rounded up a few highly rated diffusers to consider. Pura makes a smaller diffuser ideal for home offices, bathrooms or hallways. You can adjust the intensity of the scent and set a schedule or timer from the Pura app. In addition to the diffuser, you need to buy a fragrance to place in it, which costs around $15, depending on the scent. One bottle lasts for approximately 30 days, according to the brand. This highly rated diffuser has seven ambient light modes and four timer settings. It also has an auto-shutoff feature when water levels are low. This set has ten essential oils, including tea tree, lavender and lemongrass. This ceramic diffuser has two misting modes — one diffuses continuously, the other intermittently. You can use any essential oil in the diffuser (just add a few drops to the water) and it has a light that can be used as a nightlight. Why trust NBC Select? This deodorant was just recalled — here's what you need to know
When it comes to deodorant, picking the right formula is a personal decision. Some people prefer antiperspirants (which help stop sweating) and others opt for deodorants (which mask bad smells). But one thing we're confident about is that nobody wants to use a deodorant that has been recalled, which is why we are sharing this news: The Food and Drug Administration has issued a recall on 67,000 cases of Power Stick antiperspirant deodorant. Below, find more details on what this recall means and a list of deodorants you can use instead. Why were Power Stick deodorants recalled? According to the FDA, 67,000 cases of Power Stick deodorant have been recalled. The recall was initiated on July 10, and it applies to the following products from the brand: Power Stick for Her Roll-On Antiperspirant Deodorant Powder Fresh, 1.8 oz/ 53 mL UPC Code 815195019313 Power Stick Invisible Protection Roll-On Antiperspirant Deodorant Spring Fresh, 1.8 oz/53 mL UPC Code 815195018194 Power Stick Original Nourishing Invisible Protection Roll-On Antiperspirant Deodorant, 1.8 oz/53 mL UPC Code 815195018224 There was no specific reason given for the recall, only that the items were recalled for deviating from Current Good Manufacturing Practices — a set of standards established by the FDA. Power Stick deodorant is sold at Dollar Tree, Walmart and on Amazon. No information has been given on what to do if you have already purchased one of these products, though it is usually recommended that you stop using anything that has been recalled. Other deodorants to use instead If the recall impacted your deodorant or you just happen to be in the market for something new, check out the recommendations below. All of them are deodorants we have either previously recommended or that have high ratings. NBC Select associate SEO reporter Ashley Morris wasn't sure she'd like a whole body deodorant, but wound up loving this one after trying it — so much so, she wrote an entire review about it. 'I can wear this deodorant through a full day at the office, an evening workout and cooking dinner without even a hint of odor,' she says. It protects against odor for up to 72 hours and can be used all over your body, according to the brand. For those who prefer a spray, Dove makes a great option. It dries clear and offers 48-hours of protection, according to the brand. It also comes in several scents, so you can choose one that best suits your preferences. Hold it six inches away from your underarm and apply it in two to three short bursts. The stick version of this deodorant was recommended in our guide to the best deodorants. This one has a roll-on top, similar to the recalled products. It contains 15% aluminum chloride (the highest strength available over-the-counter) to help stop sweating, according to the brand. It is fragrance-free and offers 72-hour protection. It has a 4.2-star average from 39,658 reviews on Amazon. Why trust NBC Select? The recalled units were sold between March 2020 and May 2025 and the smart air conditioners were sold under the Midea name, as well as under other brand names — including Comfort Aire, Frigidaire, Danby and Insignia. You can operate it via the buttons on the unit or through the Windmill Air app. Reviewers also note that this unit is easy to install and is relatively quiet in small rooms. If you have a smaller space, consider this LG unit. NBC Select reporter Zoe Malin uses it in her kitchen, which is about 200 square feet and says it cools quickly. It is relatively light and easy to install. One thing to note: It is slightly noisy. Why trust NBC Select?
