Henry Betsey Jr: Man with three wives learns fate as he's sentenced for bigamy

A serial cheater who juggled three secret marriages at the same time has learnt his fate in court after being charged with bigamy. Florida man Henry Betsey Jr. met all three of his wives on dating sites and married all three at county courthouses over the space of two years. He married his first wife, Tonya Betsey in Jacksonville in 2020 after the pair met on Tinder. Two years later, he got the love bug again and walked Brandy Betsey down the aisle in Manatee County after they met on another dating app, Stir. Just months later, on November 23, 2022, he tied the knot with Michele Narens in Hernando County. They had met on dating website just weeks before. Unfortunately for all three women, none of them had any idea about the others. 'He said all the right things,' Brandy said. 'He sold the perfect person, when in reality, he was none of those things,' Tonya said. Betsey's deception unravelled when Tonya discovered he was three-timing her. She checked his name on country records and found it registered against two other marriage licenses. 'I just started county by county, putting in his name. And that's when I came up with the marriage to Michele and the marriage to Brandy,' ABC action news reported her saying. Michele said she had no idea Betsey was still married to his first wife until she was contacted by her out of the blue, revealing Betsey's terrible secret. They now believe Betsey was motivated by money, not love Brandy said that the day she married the love rat, he told her they needed 'to make your bank account a joint bank account'. Betsey pleaded 'no contest' to a felony bigamy in May and appeared in court late last week for sentencing. 'I am, unfortunately, still the wife of the defendant. I am not here today just as a woman betrayed by someone I once trusted, but I am also speaking on behalf of the other women involved,' Michele said at the court hearing. 'What he did was not a mistake. It was a deliberate choice and choices have consequences.' In an address to the court Betsey apologised for his actions. 'First and foremost, I want to apologise to the ladies and I want to apologise to the court administration and to my family and friends that had to be involved in this. Because ultimately this is something that I didn't wish to be part of,' Henry said. But Michele was not buying the apology. 'I'm sure that it was only said because it was recommended by his attorney to say. Do I think he has any remorse? Absolutely not,' she said. The wives also blame the state of Florida for not cross-referencing marriage licenses before the nuptials were allowed to go ahead and are now campaigning to increase safeguards so it does not happen to anyone else. While his wives were hoping Betsey would be jailed, he was sentenced to two years probation with eight days credit for time served.

Man caught having three marriages at the same time learns his fate during sentencing

A Florida man who illegally juggled secret marriages to three unsuspecting women he met on dating apps managed to escape jail time after his deception was unearthed. Henry Betsey Jr., 50, was sentenced to two years' probation on Thursday after he pleaded 'no contest' to felony bigamy in May, ABC Action News reported. Betsey married his first wife, Tonya Betsey, in November 2020 at the Jacksonville courthouse after meeting her on Tinder. 4 Henry Betsey Jr., 50, was sentenced to two years' probation on Thursday after he pleaded 'no contest' to felony bigamy in May. Seminole County Jail Two years later, Betsey married Brandy, whom he met on the dating app Stir, on Feb. 22, 2022, in Manatee County. Months later, a third woman, Michele Narens, met Betsey on the dating website and tied the knot at a courthouse in Hernando County on Nov. 23, 2022, after only knowing each other for three weeks, she told ABC Action News in May. 'He said all the right things,' Brandy said. 'He took each one of us to a county over to get married.' For months, the marriage swindler was living a triple life, married to three different women — all of whom were unaware of each other. His ways wouldn't be brought to light until his first wife, Tonya, began to search for her husband's name in county court records and made the shocking discovery that her husband had marriage licenses to two other women. 4 Henry Betsey, Jr., with Michele Betsey on their wedding day in November 2022. Tonya then found Michele online and messaged her with the startling findings. 'She found me and she messaged me, and I had no idea that she was actually still married to him,' Michele said. Michele contacted law enforcement about Betsey's actions, resulting in his arrest for felony bigamy at his residence in Seminole County last year. 4 His first wife, Tonya, began to search for her husband's name in county court records and made the shocking discovery that her husband had marriage licenses to two other women. ABC Action News The women believe that Betsey married them for money. Brandy shared that on the day they got married, he told her they needed 'to make your bank account a joint bank account.' The women also slammed the counties in Florida for not communicating effectively enough to prevent him from getting married repeatedly. 'If the counties did talk, it would have saved me a lot of heartache, a lot of money, a lot of stress,' Tonya told the outlet. 'There are no safeguards, and I feel like that's part of where the system failed,' Michele said. 4 Betsey married Brandy, whom he met on the dating app Stir, on Feb. 22, 2022, in Manatee County. ABC Action News Michele and Tonya said they obtained domestic violence orders from judges after Betsey became abusive and were able to escape their marriages. Brandy told the outlet she kicked Henry out of her house after just five days of marriage. While appearing in court on Thursday, Betsey apologized for marrying the women at the same time. Secrets and lies: This ABC thriller will make you look at your mother's group differently

LITTLE DISASTERS ★★★★ The darker side of new motherhood, once barely whispered about, has proven a fruitful starting point for any number of psychological parenting thrillers in which mothers fall under suspicion – think Jenna Coleman in The Cry, or Jessica De Gouw in The Secrets She Keeps. This six-part drama, adapted from Sarah Vaughan's novel by Ruth Fowler (who created 2022 corporate thriller Rules of the Game), stars Diane Kruger as Jess, an American living in the comfortable bosom of the middle-class UK, with a young son and a newborn daughter. The series takes the distressing premise of implied post-natal depression and spins outwards to give a gripping account of judgment, betrayal, mistrust and a burning ethical dilemma. The model of neo-maternal perfection in her circle of female friends, whose children were raised alongside one another, from cloth nappies to organic rusks, Jess would seem the last mother to screw up even the tiniest dietary detail. But when she presents her baby, Betsey, to the emergency ward with an unexplained bruise, questions must be asked. And who should be the attending doctor? One of Jess' closest friends, Liz (Jo Joyner). It's here that the narrative goes nuclear in a manner not unlike The Slap – the expected chain of events shattering their friendship and dividing the community, with fingers swiftly pointed in both directions, mothers of all descriptions being so easy to blame. An interview device more commonly used in mockumentaries and reality programs breaks the fourth wall and draws us back to the victim – baby Betsey – and encourages reflection on the conflicting moralities of the situation. While it can initially be jarring to be faced with Liz in scrubs, explaining her side of the story to camera, these interludes serve to ground the swirling emotional fallout. Loading As the unthinkable is investigated, it turns out that – shock! – no mother is perfect. Or father, for that matter. The ensemble (which includes Patrick Balardi, Shelley Conn, Ben Bailey Smith, JJ Field, Stephen Campbell Moore and Emily Taaffe) explores the herd response to such a bombshell dropped in the middle of a seemingly innocuous and untouchable group. How an atmosphere of fear and accusation permeates this polite society is intriguing to watch.
