The Better Sister – Season 1 Episode 6 'Steadying Hand' Recap & Review

Episode 6 Episode 6 of The Better Sister begins with a flashback of Adam at confession. He berates Ethan for being a wastrel. He claims Chloe enables Ethan's bad behaviour and he is the only one trying to fix his son. At present, Nicky tries to confront Chloe who is more worried about appearances and it turns physical. Nancy jumps in and ends up hitting and cuffing Nicky. Michelle orders them to stand down as they need a new game plan. Michelle tells Nicky to play the bad mom so Ethan can look grateful to have had Adam. As for Chloe, she needs to dig into Adam's files and find another suspect. She grabs whatever she can from Adam's office. Bill catches her but she is able to hide the USB. Nancy hangs out with her former mentor, Clark at his bar and he tells her to be careful. She cannot afford to make another mistake and he hints that she has a messy rep. He wants her to do a psych eval to calm the brass. She also discusses the case and thinks Nicky is pretending to be a mess to take the attention away from Ethan. A flashback shows Nicky arriving at her mom's, drunk out of her mind. Everyone's worried but Sheila simply looks after Nicky. At present, Nicky goes to an AA meeting. She thought Chloe and Adam were saving Ethan from her. But she is upset that they messed him up too and now she is going to lose him again. After the meeting, she talks to her friend, Debbie about some orders. Meanwhile, Matt shows up at the FBI HQs. He tries to ID the agent with Chloe but is forced to leave. At the same time, Chloe meets Agent Olivero and gives him the USB. He refuses to help with Ethan's case and even threatens her. Upset, she rushes off and calls Michelle. Back to Nicky, she takes a walk with Ken and talks about Adam. He hated that Ethan needed her and hit her when she drank. Ken points out that Adam and Chloe left her instead of helping her. He pushes her to accept that she is angry about it. She goes skinny dipping and remembers the fateful day at the pool. As for Chloe, she tells Jake about the FBI looking into Gentry and is upset that he knows. She wants him to testify against Gentry but he refuses as they are too powerful. He wishes he could help and she hooks up with him. She is definitely scheming as Dom gets a tip that the sisters are going to drop a bomb during their testimonies. He lashes out at Nancy who points out that he himself ordered them to drop any leads not involving Ethan. Back home, Chloe and Nicky break into Adam's briefcase and find the gun. Nicky wants to make themselves suspicious but Chloe begs her to listen to Michelle. She states that Ethan needs them and Nicky is touched. Chloe accepts that she made a mistake cutting Nicky out. Before the next hearing, Michelle tells Ethan that his next best bet is a plea bargain, despite being innocent. He wishes he had hurt his father and she comforts him. Bill and Jake show up as support and Chloe pretends to be grateful. Catherine brings everyone Chloe has helped and sponsored. Ken advises Nicky to tell her truth and move on. Nicky takes the stand and paints Adam as a good, disciplined and philanthropic guy. She thought she could change by being with him. She knew Adam was good for Ethan, unlike her, which is why she agreed to give away her custody rights. But when Dom questions her, he uses the burner phone to prove that Ethan is capable of lying. And since he didn't tell Nicky about the gun or the trolling account, she cannot vouch for his innocence. The tide turns with Chloe's testimony. She pushed Ethan to switch from prosecution to a private law firm and he blamed her for their vapid, pretentious, rich life. He started hitting her. She claims no one knew about the abuse except Jake as they are having an affair. She adds that Jake was angry with Adam. Nicky looks impressed while Jake is upset that he's been thrown under the bus. He is called up and Michelle treats him like a suspect. We also learn that he was the one Chloe was texting from her burner phone on the night of the murder. He looks sad but accepts his role for Ethan's sake. He refuses to answer every question, including the one asking if he killed Adam. Michelle's closing statement reminds the jury that there is no murder weapon and no proof that Ethan was in the house on the night of the murder. The prosecution's argument is based on hearsay and assumptions. Michelle points out that Jake is a more likely suspect. During the break, Nicky cries in the bathroom and Chloe holds her hand. Thankfully, the verdict is that Ethan is not guilty. Nicky looks relieved as she heads back alone. She has the gun in her purse. She cooks for Ethan while Chloe brings him his things. He apologises for the hate comments and Chloe understands that he was angry with her and Adam. He is worried about Jake but she doesn't care. She asks about the bloody shoes and he explains that he staged it all to cover for her. She is confused by his belief that she killed Adam and The Better Sister Episode 6 comes to a close. The Episode Review The Better Sister Episode 6 seems to be the strongest chapter of the show yet. It finally meshes the two different genres of drama and thriller to give a solid blend of a messy court case with a meddling and scheming family. It gives Jake his spotlight while allowing Chloe to finally lean into her manipulative nature. Nancy's aggressive personality pays off, as her mistakes may lead to her quitting before the truth can be revealed. The tiny clues involving Nicky's drama also add to the murder mystery such as the gun and the abuse allegations. With Chloe and Ethan's confusion regarding the culprit, it seems that Nicky just may have something to do with Adam's murder. The Gentry misdirect has been as vague as possible and we doubt the show will introduce a complete stranger as the culprit, as the killer reveal won't have the emotional payoff that is expected, thanks to Adam's toxic nature. Elizabeth Banks says she doesn't get much sleep as a working mom

Elizabeth Banks struggles to find time to sleep as a busy mother. The 51-year-old actress has sons Felix, 14, as well as 12-year-old Magnus with her husband Max Handelman, and while she loves to lie in bed as long as possible, it's sometimes impossible because of her children's schedule and she often resorts to going to sleep before them just to get enough rest. She told PEOPLE: "I'll go to bed late if I can sleep in. But how often does a working mom get to sleep in? Sleep has become a determinant of so much of my daily life. My mood is improved, my ability to work is improved, my focus is improved if I have a good night's sleep. What that means to me is seven to eight hours minimum. I'm sort of at the mercy of my kids' schedule. If I'm going to get up with the kids and have that quality time with them in the morning, which I do love, then I have to go to bed earlier. There are nights where I'm in bed before my kids—'Good night. I'm done parenting!' I want to be in bed by 10 at the latest because I wake up at six to six-thirty." In the event that she struggles to fall asleep, the 'Better Sister' star turns to an audiobook and will often end up listening again in the morning so she can understand the content of the work if it has done the trick in sending her off for the night. She said: "If I'm feeling like it's hard to fall asleep, I'll listen to an audiobook. I absolutely love 'My Name is Barbra', the Barbra Streisand book, and it's almost 50 hours long. I loved listening to that. But don't want to imply that she "puts me to sleep"! She does not. I'll go back and re-listen in the morning. But just the vibe of somebody talking to me, telling me a story. It's like you're a child again."

Jessica Biel Reveals If Her 2 Sons Think She or Dad Justin Timberlake Is Cooler

Jessica Biel's sons do seem to have a favorite parent. During an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday, May 20, the Better Sister star, 43, was asked by longtime friend Jimmy Fallon if her sons know how cool their parents are. Biel shares sons Phineas, 4, and Silas, 10, with husband Justin Timberlake, 44. 'No,' Biel responds. 'Not at all.' 'I mean, you're Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake,' says Fallon. 'Yes, you're very cool.' 'No, Jimmy. They do not,' says Biel. 'Well, I think they think Justin's kind of cool, because the music element, and like he's Daddy. I am so lame to them.' Although Fallon insists that that can't be true, Biel says it is — and her younger son already has a new phrase he's been saying around the house. 'No, no. Let me tell you. The new phrase for my 4-year-old is, 'Mom, you have the worst ideas. You have the worst ideas,' " says Biel. 'Oh, watch it, buddy,' replies Fallon, asking, 'He's 4-years-old?' 'I'm like, we're already there? And Silas is like, 'Don't engage Mom. Back up off the field,' " says the mom of two. "Like he's playing baseball now. He's like, 'Don't say anything. Back up.' I'm like, I just said good job! Like, say nothing. Say nothing.' Earlier this week, Biel spoke with E! News and was asked if either of her sons has any interest in their parents' careers. 'Yeah, my older one definitely has some interest in acting and music. He's just getting that kind of confidence and kind of his own attitude is coming out," Biel said of Silas. "He's an aspiring DJ and DJ'd his own 10th birthday party.' 'He was working his party, and it was so fun. He mixes things from Jackson 5 to Justin to old school stuff, doo-wop stuff, I mean everything," added the proud mom. Read the original article on People

Jessica Biel sometimes 'puts on a happy face'

Jessica Biel has sometimes forced herself to "put on a happy face". The 43-year-old actress - who first rose to fame as a child star in '7th Heaven' when she was just 14 - has reflected on how she's reacted to being in the public eye over the years. She told PEOPLE magazine: 'I can understand sometimes feeling like you have to put on a happy face, or you know, smile and kind of grin and bear it. 'I've definitely done that in my past before... I understand wanting to hide some of my personal life or you know, just keep something sacred." 'The Better Sister' star was reflecting on how she feels some similarities with her character in the movie, who finds herself in the middle of a scandal and looking for privacy. She quipped: 'I think my character does that in a very dysfunctional way, and I think I do it a little bit more functionally, I hope." Jessica admitted portraying a character on screen is "always cathartic no matter what", because with each performance she's finding something to draw on from her own life. She explained: 'You're finding something that is in your life that is parallel to something that you understand or a touch point that you can connect to that your character is going through. "Sometimes it's abstract, sometimes it's very linear.' Jessica played aspiring basketball player Mary Camden in '7th Heaven' from 1996to 2007, and she tried to show off her own skills during her audition. Appearing on the 'Catching Up With the Camdens' podcast - which is hosted by three of her on-screen siblings Beverley Mitchell, David Gallagher and Mackenzie Rosman - she recalled: "The Mary character was spinning a basketball on her finger. "So I did that in the audition without a basketball. What a choice. Like, who encouraged me to do that? "I kind of still feel embarrassed about that, but, I don't know. Maybe it was effective. "And I remember thinking, 'cool character,' because she's a basketball player, and I was an athlete. I was like 'Oh, I connect to this.'"

Jessica Biel Shared a Candid Update on Her Marriage to Justin Timberlake Months After His DWI Arrest

Back in June 2024, Justin Timberlake was arrested on DWI charges in Sag Harbor, New York. A few months later, in September, the 'Suit & Tie' singer pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of driving while ability impaired (DWAI). Now, his wife Jessica Biel is speaking out and showing where they currently stand. While rumors that Biel and Timberlake were in a rocky period circled after his case, Biel's latest interview with InStyle is proving it's all in the past. More from SheKnows Jessica Biel Reveals Why Her Latest Show Is 'Like a What Not to Do' When Parenting Teens & Tweens First off, Biel gushed about spending time with Timberlake (who she married in 2012) and their kids Silas, 10, and Phineas, 4. 'Spending time with the family unit is a huge priority right now, because I've been gone, Justin's been gone,' she told the outlet. After all, while Timberlake has been on tour for the Forget Tomorrow World Tour, Biel has been filming her upcoming projects Better Sister and Matchbox. Biel then revealed that if she weren't being interviewed that Saturday morning, she would be either be skiing or running with Timberlake, or spending some family time in the mountains Big Sky, Montana. 'These moments at this time feel kind of priceless,' she said. Later on in the interview, Biel reflected on the long-lasting friendships she's had in her life. 'I'm really lucky, because I have amazing groups of women kind of scattered throughout the country that have really been my rocks as I've grown up,' she said. 'I would also consider my husband one of my chosen sisters,' Biel added with a laugh. 'He's also my best friend.' 'All of them together have gotten me through my life,' she reflected. 'I don't know how I would have survived life without them.' So there you have it; not only are Biel and Timberlake still together, but they seem closer than ever. Of course, this only confirms the reports in the fall of 2024 that claimed Timberlake was focusing on his family, and shifting his priorities. 'Jessica and Justin are spending more time together and are happier and more relaxed,' a source told Us Weekly in December. 'Jessica is showing patience and compassion while also maintaining firm expectations of him,' the source continued, adding that they are 'prioritizing their strength as a family.'
