Behind the music - Between the Buried and Me
US prog-metal band Between the Buried and Me have released their new single, Absent Thereafter, ahead of their new album, The Blue Nowhere. We asked vocalist and keyboard player Tommy Rogers the BIG questions . . . "To me, Absent Thereafter feels like the quintessential BTBAM song - fun, intense, spacy, and still fucking heavy," says Tommy. "I like to think it takes the listener on an unexpected journey, with ear candy waiting around every corner. It's a deeper dive into all of the dynamic places you're taken within The Blue Nowhere!" Tell us three things about yourself . . . I was originally supposed to be the guitarist of BTBAM, but we couldn't find a singer, so I figured why not? I'm happily boring I am one of the managers for BTBAM as well as a member. How would you describe your music? Chaotic, beautiful at times, and dare I say fun? ADVENTUROUS. Who are your musical inspirations? The Beatles, Mr. Bungle, Radiohead, and lots of weirdo black metal. What was the first gig you ever went to? Technically, Huey Lewis, but only because my parents couldn't find a babysitter. First one I knowingly went to and was f***ing excited about? - Skid Row and Bon Jovi in 1988. What was the first record you ever bought? Probably Master of Puppets by Metallica, but my memory is s***. Spandau Ballet - True. Favourite lyric of all time? "Yeah" - White Zombie. If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be? Nature Boy by Nat King Cole. Our website. Alan Corr

Two other Sound Talent Group employees and other individuals, all of whom have not been publicly identified yet, were also killed when the 1985 Cessna Citation aircraft crashed at roughly 4 a.m. in the Tierrasanta neighborhood, reports Billboard. The plane crashed onto a residential block, setting several homes on fire. UPDATE: One of the other victims has been identified as Daniel Williams, founding drummer of the metalcore band The Devil Wears Prada. Details here. 'We are devastated by the loss of our co-founder, colleagues and friends,' said a spokesperson for Sound Talent Group. 'Our hearts go out to their families and to everyone impacted by today's tragedy. Thank you so much for respecting their privacy at this time.' Shapiro previously worked at The Agency Group and United Talent Agency before launching Sound Talent Group with Tim Borror and Matt Andersen. Billboard notes that Shapiro was an experienced pilot, and owned the company Velocity Aviation, where he also served as a flight instructor. In addition to the aforementioned bands, Sound Talent Group also represents such acts as Animals as Leaders, Beartooth, Between the Buried and Me, Black Veil Brides, Corrosion of Conformity, Devin Townsend, Down, Helmet, Hot Water Music, In This Moment, Killswitch Engage, Story of the Year, Zakk Wylde, and dozens more. Earlier this year, Sound Talent Group announced the 'Summer of Loud Tour,' a North American metalcore package featuring Beartooth, I Prevail, Killswitch Engage, and Parkway Drive that is set to kick off June 22nd. Our condolences go out to the families and friends of Dave Shapiro and the other victims of this plane crash.
