46th Ganesh Utsav to champion indigenous products, unity

Hyderabad: The 46th grand Shri Ganesh Utsav in Hyderabad will be organised from 27 August to 6 September under the aegis of the Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi. This year, the Samithi announced the festival would focus on spreading awareness about the use of indigenous products, fostering social harmony, and promoting cultural nationalism. Samithi president G Raghav Reddy formally launched the event by performing a Ganesh worship at the Samithi's office in Baheti Bhavan, near Siddiamber Bazar. Ravinutla Shashidhar, official spokesperson for the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), highlighted that the Ganesh festival typically generates a turnover of approximately Rs 5,000 crore. He stated that efforts would be made to ensure Indian professionals benefit from this economic activity. Furthermore, under the umbrella of this festival, the Swadeshi Jagran Manch will distribute a list of indigenous and foreign products, inspiring the public to prioritise Indian-made goods. Shashidhar noted that this year's celebrations will coincide with significant anniversaries: the 150th Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the 125th Birth Anniversary of Jan Sangh founder Shyamaprasad Mukherjee, and the centenary celebration of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. Accordingly, awareness campaigns promoting unity, social harmony, and nationalism will be conducted at every Ganesh Pandal. He affirmed that despite numerous obstacles over the past 46 years, Shri Ganesh Utsav has been celebrated with grandeur and without hindrance, a tradition that will continue this year. Committee Advisor M Ramaraju expressed concern that the original purpose behind conceiving the collective celebration of Shri Ganesh Utsav four decades ago was being overlooked. He stressed the importance of educating society about Dharma Raksha (protection of righteousness), Kirtan (devotional singing), and organisational power at Shri Ganesh pandals for the entire 11-day duration. Ramaraju emphasised the necessity of ensuring that non-believers and 'traitors' do not receive any financial support from the festival, asserting that such funds could be used to attack Sanatanis.

BGUS opens office; Ganesh festivities from Aug.27 to Sept. 6

Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi (BGUS) on Wednesday announced that the annual 46th Ganesh festivities in the twin cities will begin with the idol installation on August 27 and will culminate with the grand immersion ceremony on September 6. Samithi president G. Raghava Reddy and secretary R. Shashidhar told mediapersons after the inauguration of the central hub office at the Baheti Bhavan in Siddiambar Bazar that the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, 125th birth anniversary of Shyam Prasad Mukherjee and 100th year celebration of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh will also be observed during the period. The BGUS said the festivities generate a revenue of more than ₹5,000 crore and has requested all the pandal organisers as well as devotees to use only indigenous products during the period with the 'Swadeshi Jagran Manch' to spread awareness. The samithi said it is aiming for smooth and peaceful conduct of the festival. To achieve this, they will coordinate with various government departments such as the police, municipal authorities, power department and others to help pandal organisers obtain necessary permissions, implement safety measures and ensure civic amenities are in place.

Ganesh idol makers seek govt protection from ‘non-Hindu' lenders

Hyderabad: The Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi on Friday urged the government to protect Ganesh idol makers from what it described as "the clutches of private money lenders of non-Hindus" and to provide them with necessary support. Samithi leaders called on the government to halt alleged "theft by other religions" in the Ganesh idol making business, emphasising that all possible help should be extended to the artisans. This demand was raised at a meeting of Ganesh idol makers held in Uppal-Nagole on Friday, organised under the auspices of the Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi. Dr Ravinutala Shashidhar, VHP National Spokesperson and Ganesh Utsav Samithi Secretary, was the chief guest. Speaking at the event, Shashidhar announced, "Bhagyanagar is getting ready for the 46th mass Ganesh Festival and arrangements were being made to organise the Ganesh festival on a grand scale from 27 August to 6 September." Shashidhar stated that middlemen entering the business at the last minute were exploiting the hardships faced by Hindu idol makers, who have come to the city from Rajasthan, Gujarat, and other places and have been engaged in making Ganesh idols for the past 25 to 30 years. He alleged that these middlemen, associated with Muslim and Christian organisations, have also entered the business. Shashidhar asserted that this issue relates to the religious beliefs of Hindus, and that organisers were experiencing difficulties due to the low rates offered by traders from other religions. He further claimed that these middlemen were harassing idol makers by providing loans at high interest rates. The Ganesh Utsav Samithi is seeking a permanent solution to this problem, with plans being formulated. "The makers of idols and the people who sell them must be entirely Hindus, but people of other religions are allowed to do so," Shashidhar concluded.
