Gatekeeper assaulted by drunk men at level crossing; one held

Madurai: Two men allegedly under the influence of alcohol assaulted a gatekeeper on duty at level crossing No. 272 near Samudram railway station in Madurai division on Saturday night. The incident took place around 10.15pm on Saturday when the gate was closed for train movement. The men reportedly demanded that the gate be opened and, when refused, attacked the gatekeeper. Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel rushed to the spot and launched a search for the culprits. One of the accused, identified as Bhagyaraj of Samudram, was apprehended and his bike seized. Efforts are underway to nab the second accused who fled the scene. Following the incident, divisional railway manager of Madurai instructed RPF officials to take strict and prompt action to deter such occurrences. Officials said any interference with level crossings, misbehaviour with gatekeepers, or acts that compromise train safety would be dealt with severely. Such offences attract provisions under sections 153 and 154 of the Railway Act, carrying penalties including imprisonment ranging from one to five years, depending on the gravity of the offence. Farmers to lay siege to Bengaluru's Vidhana Soudha on August 20 over sugarcane dues, pricing issues

Bengaluru is set to witness a major farmers' protest on August 20, as members of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and the Karnataka State Sugarcane Growers' Association announced plans to lay siege to the Vidhana Soudha, pressing the government to meet their long-pending demands, reported The Hindu. Bengaluru's Vidhana Soudha. Addressing a press conference in Bengaluru on Saturday, H. Bhagyaraj, president of the sugarcane growers' association, said farmers would also stage a 'satyagraha' at Freedom Park on the same day. Although the nation marked Independence Day on August 15, farmers had little to celebrate, Bhagyaraj remarked, accusing the government of failing to ensure scientific pricing for agricultural produce. He demanded that the Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) for the 2025-26 season be fixed at ₹4,500 per tonne, with harvesting and transportation costs borne by sugar factories. They insisted that factories should install weighing machines in open view so farmers could monitor the process themselves. The association further alleged that sugar mills owe farmers a staggering ₹950 crore in pending dues, and urged the government to clear these payments immediately. On the issue of fertiliser shortage, Bhagyaraj accused both the State and Centre of politicising the matter. He demanded that authorities ensure smooth supply and act strictly against traders who create artificial scarcity by hoarding stocks or selling them above the official price. Farmers to lay siege to Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru on August 20

Members of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and Karnataka State Sugarcane Growers' Association will lay siege to the Vidhana Soudha on August 20, seeking the implementation of their long-pending demands. At a press conference here on Saturday, H. Bhagyaraj, president of the sugarcane growers' association, said that farmers will also hold a 'satyagraha' at Freedom Park in Bengaluru. Though the country celebrated Independence Day on August 15,there was little for farmers to celebrate as the government had failed to ensure scientific pricing for agricultural produce, he said. Mr. Bhagyaraj said that the Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) for 2025-26 should be fixed at ₹4,500 per ton, and harvesting and transportation costs must be borne by the sugar factories. The farmers also expressed concern that the weighing scales are not scientifically calibrated, as a result of which they suffer losses. This should be avoided by installing the weighing scales in front of the factories so that the farmers can monitor the process as well, they said. Mr. Bhagyaraj pointed out that the factories owed dues to the tune of ₹950 crores to sugarcane farmers, and added that this should be cleared immediately. Drawing attention to the shortage of fertilizers, the association said that the issue has been politicised by both the State and the Centre, and that it was the responsibility of the governments to ensure the availability of fertilizers and its smooth distribution. The authorities were urged to crack down on traders creating artificial scarcity by hoarding fertilizer stocks or selling them at a price higher than the rates fixed by the government. Mr. Bhagyaraj urged the government to implement the Mekedatu project without further delay, and blamed the Centre and the State for failing to expedite the works. The farmers stated that banks tend to insist on CIBIL scores before releasing agricultural loans, and hence urged the government to change the policy and delink CIBIL scores from farm loans. Any delay in repayment of loan due to crop failure or vagaries of nature has a negative bearing on the CIBIL score and affects the farmers, the association said. Drawing attention to the low penetration of crop insurance among farmers, the association said that the policy and insurance schemes should be tweaked to make a particular land of the farmer concerned as the unit area of insurance. When the unit area for crop insurance is too large, individual farmers suffer because damage to their crops may be overlooked and their claims rejected, if conditions in other parts of the area are considered normal, it added. Other demands included immediate release of ₹1,000 crore by way of incentives which is pending for dairy farmers, establishment of crop and milk procurement centres at the gram panchayat level, rescinding the Land Reforms Act and APMC (Amendment) Act, implementation of the recommendations of M.S. Swaminathan Committee, a law ensuring statutory guarantee of Minimum Support Price for farmers' produce, etc.

‘Bagina politics': Farmers allege KRS honoured but Kabini ignored

The tradition of offering 'Bagina' to Kabini and the Krishnaraja Sagar on the same day was ignored this year which has irked a section of farmers who have criticised the government. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah offered Bagina, the traditional thanksgiving to the river, consequent to the reservoir attaining the full level at the KRS on Monday. All these years, the practice was to visit the Kabini first, make the offerings, and then visit the KRS to complete the rituals on the same day. Irked by the Chief Minister offering Bagina only at the KRS, the Karnataka State Sugarcane Growers' Association president H. Bhagyaraj and others staged a demonstration in Mysuru to voice their protest. Angered by the CM's move, Mr. Bhagyaraj said Bagina has been offered hastily at the KRS for political spectacle. But when the water is released to Tamil Nadu during distress years and when Karnataka has to comply with the Supreme Court's directives, it is the farmers from the Kabini command area whose interests are sacrificed by the government, Mr. Bhagyaraj added. The farmers also alleged that several illegal resorts have been built along the Kabini backwaters, though none of the development works previously announced by the government have materialised so far. The farmers also criticised the government for its alleged move to privatise the power sector and said that the installation of smart meters was a step in that direction. In due course, the installation will be extended to the agriculture sector as well, pushing farmers out of agriculture and facilitating the entry of the corporates to the agricultural sector, said Mr. Bhagyaraj. Opposing the compulsory installation of smart meters, the farmers urged the government to withdraw the notification failing which the association threatened to launch an agitation. They urged the government to fix the Fair and Remunerative Price for sugarcane at ₹4,000 a tonne for the current season. Other demands included putting an end to 'forced land acquisition' for development, ensuring reparation works of canals and channels in the rural hinterland, and filling up the waterbodies.

Nadigar Sangam building nears completion after years of delay; a new video seizes attention

The South Indian Artistes Association, aka Nadigar Sangam, has officially confirmed that the construction of its long-awaited building has reached its final phase. In a newly released video, the association offered a visual update, proudly showcasing the nearing completion of the project. The announcement has brought fresh hope to members, fans, and well-wishers who have been eagerly waiting to see the vision come to life after several years of setbacks. Foundation laid in 2016 under Nasser 's leadership The project was initiated in 2016 after actor Nasser and his team took charge of the Nadigar Sangam. The new building began construction on 19 grounds of land owned by the association. Funds for the project were initially raised through two grand cultural events. With a budget of ₹30 crore, the building saw 75% of its construction completed. However, the association soon entered a phase of internal elections that slowed progress considerably. Internal rift causes prolonged stagnation. A leadership tussle between Nasser's faction and a rival team led by actor Bhagyaraj caused a complete halt in construction. The project remained stalled for more than three years. Meanwhile, inflation and delay increased the total cost, making it impossible to move forward without additional financial resources. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Memperdagangkan CFD Emas dengan salah satu spread terendah?
