Janmashtami celebrated with fervour in Hubballi-Dharwad
Krishna Janmashtami was celebrated with fervour in twin cities of Hubballi-Dharwad on Saturday, with scores of devotees thronging the temples and participating in various events organised as part of the festival.
Children, accompanied by their parents and dressed as Sri Krishna and Radha, participated in the celebrations. At some venues, participants took part in a contest to break the pot of curd. The winners were rewarded with prizes.
Devotees thronged the Shivakrishna Mandir in Hubballi, ISKCON temple, and other places to offer puja. Rituals were performed and various programmes were held as part of two-day celebrations at the ISKCON Temple. A large number of devotees thronged the temple to take part in rituals that began at 4.30 a.m.
On the day of Janmashtami, 108 delicacies, prepared by devotees, were offered to the Lord. A 155-kg laddu, prepared from pure desi ghee, by Bhairu Caterers Hubballi, became the highlight among the offerings.
Cultural performances of music and dance by artists from Hubbali-Dharwad were staged, enthralling the audience. During the Mahabhishekam, the idols of the dieties were ceremonially bathed in sandalwood oil, panchagavya, panchamrita, fruit juices, and gem-infused water, in a series of rituals that continued till midnight.
ISKCON Hubbali-Dharwad president, Rajiv Lochan Dasa, delivered a short discourse on the significance of Lord Krishna's appearance and His divine pastimes.
Cultural programmes were also held in various residential areas.
