Citi's India head of commercial banking exits after 25 years with bank

Citigroup's India head and managing director (MD) of commercial banking, Bhanu Vohra, has parted ways with the US-based bank after twenty-five years to pursue external opportunities, the bank confirmed to Business Standard. The bank is in the process of appointing Vohra's successor soon. 'We can confirm both developments. Bhanu would be pursuing an external opportunity. The bank will shortly announce his successor,' Citi said in an email response to Business Standard. Vohra has been with the bank since November 2000. In March 2023, he took over as the MD & India Head of Citi Commercial Bank in India, where he led a team of over 300 banking and risk professionals, managing the banking needs of mid-corporate, digital, new-age, and SME clients. Citi's Commercial Bank provides global banking solutions to mid-sized companies looking to grow rapidly and expand internationally. The bank, with its global network, comprehensive solutions, and industry expertise, helps these businesses succeed across a wide variety of industries and at most stages of their growth. Prior to being MD & Head of Commercial Banking at Citi, he was MD & India Head of Citi Global Subsidiaries Group from August 2020 to February 2023. Earlier, he was MD of Global Markets and Head of Forex (Citi Private Bank). Vohra has worked in a variety of roles, including in operations, transaction banking, and global markets at Citi.

Citigroup Inc. 's India head of commercial banking, Bhanu Vohra , is leaving after about two and a half decades with the bank, according to people familiar with the matter. Vohra, a veteran banker who most recently led a team that provides global banking solutions to Indian mid-sized companies, is now on gardening leave and is exploring other career opportunities, said the people, who asked not to be identified discussing private information. He resigned a few weeks ago, they said. A spokesperson for Citigroup said the bank will soon announce Vohra's successor, confirming his resignation. Citi India's commercial banking head Bhanu Vohra to exit firm after 25 yrs

Bhanu Vohra, Citigroup Inc's head of commercial banking in India, is set to leave the firm after about two-and-a-half decades with the bank, Bloomberg reported. Vohra is currently on gardening leave and 'exploring other career opportunities", according to the report. He tendered his resignation a few weeks ago. Most recently, the veteran banker led a team delivering global banking solutions to Indian mid-sized firms. He joined Citi in 2000 and has served in various leadership roles across operations, transaction banking, and global markets. During his career, Vohra worked in both the Asia-Pacific and EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) regions. He returned to India to head Citi's Global Subsidiaries Group within the Banking, Capital Markets and Advisory (BCMA) vertical. He also held senior roles in Citi's Treasury and Trade Services (TTS) and its Operations and Technology division. Citigroup has made several leadership adjustments in India this year. K Balasubramanian, formerly head of corporate banking for ASEAN and South Asia, has taken over as the chief executive officer of Citi India. Balasubramanian has worked across several markets, serving clients in key industries and regions throughout India. He joined Citi India in 1996 and has held various roles over more than two decades. Meanwhile, Ashu Khullar now co-heads the global asset managers team, operating out of London. Khullar, who has led Citi India since 2019, will also be part of the investment banking global operating committee.
