Arrests will happen soon after submission of KLIS probe report: TPCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud

KHAMMAM: Once the Commission of Inquiry probing irregularities in the Kaleshwaram project submits its report, arrests will follow, said TPCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud on Saturday. Stating that Congress has consistently advocated for the rights and welfare of tribal and Adivasi communities, from the era of Indira Gandhi to the present leadership under Rahul Gandhi, Mahesh Kumar Goud noted that it was Indira Gandhi who introduced the Land Ceiling Act to empower tribal communities with full implementation later achieved under former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao. He also credited Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra for strengthening the party's connection with grassroots communities, which led to initiatives like the caste census in Telangana and the launch of the Indira Soura Giri Jal Vikasam scheme. Under this programme, land ownership rights were granted to over 2.3 lakh tribal farmers through the Recognition of Forest Rights Act.

Allahabad HC dismisses Rahul Gandhi's plea against summons for remark about Army

The Allahabad High Court on Thursday dismissed a petition filed by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi challenging the summons issued by a Lucknow court in a defamation case related to his remarks about the Indian Army in 2022, Bar and Bench reported. The leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha had challenged the summons issued by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Alok Verma in February and the complaint filed against him on the grounds that it was motivated and lodged in a mala fide manner, The Times of India reported. Justice Subhash Vidyarthi on Thursday rejected the plea on merits, according to Bar and Bench. The detailed order of the judgement will be released on June 2, the Hindustan Times reported. Gandhi made the comments on December 16, 2022, about a clash between the Indian and Chinese armies along the Line of Actual Control in Arunachal Pradesh's Tawang. The two sides had confronted each other with melee weapons on December 9, 2022, leading to injuries in both sides. Gandhi's remarks about the violence were made during the Congress' Bharat Jodo Yatra, a march from Kanyakumari to Kashmir against the allegedly divisive policies of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. A former director of the Border Roads Organisation, Uday Shankar Srivastava, filed a defamation complaint against Gandhi. His lawyer claimed that the Congress leader's statements were derogatory and defamed the Indian Army.

Rahul Gandhi hails Karnataka's gig workers' welfare ordinance

Bengaluru/New Delhi: Congress MP and opposition leader in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, Thursday lauded the state govt's decision to promulgate an ordinance establishing a social security board for platform-based gig workers, calling it a "historic step" that reflects the party's vision for workers' rights across the country. Referring to slogans he heard during his nationwide march, Rahul, in a post on X, said: "'Rating nahi, haq chaahiye'. 'Insaan hai hum, ghulaam nahi'. These powerful words from gig workers stayed with me during the Bharat Jodo Yatra." He went on to say: "Our Congress govt in Karnataka has taken a historic step by issuing an ordinance that guarantees rights, dignity, and protection to gig workers... These workers bring us food, deliver essentials, and drive us safely — in the heat, cold, and rain." Pointing to exploitative conditions gig workers face, he said: "Yet, they are too often blocked from their apps without explanation, denied sick leave, and paid according to opaque algorithms. We are changing that." Rahul said the new ordinance ensures social security, fair contracts, transparency in algorithmic pay, and an end to arbitrary blocking. "This is how technology should serve people — driving innovation and justice. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Rajasthan showed the way. Karnataka has acted. Telangana is next." In Bengaluru, Karnataka labour minister Santosh Lad expressed gratitude to governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot for swiftly approving the ordinance, and credited Rahul for bringing the issue to the forefront. After leading a delegation of gig workers to felicitate the governor, Lad said: "Today, the vision of our leader Rahul Gandhi has been realised. We thank the governor for passing the ordinance within a day of it being sent to Raj Bhavan. " He said platforms which use services of gig workers to "further their profits" must consider the welfare of these employees "who inhale carbon dioxide day in and day out". "I am not going to blame anyone, but it is important to consider the social security of these workers," he said. However, while praising Gehlot for his prompt action, Lad also criticised Raj Bhavan over delays in approving other bills. "It is only in non-BJP governed states that Raj Bhavans withhold assent for bills," Lad said. "In BJP-governed states such actions are unheard of. Our youngsters need to understand the consequences of such actions, why there is a debate on Article 142 in the country and why courts are intervening in such matters. " The ordinance paves the way for the establishment of a Gig Workers Welfare Board, expected to be a first-of-its-kind step towards regulating platform-based work and providing structured protection to lakhs of delivery partners, drivers, and other on-demand workers in the state.

Remark on army: HC dismisses Rahul Gandhi's plea challenging summons by local court

The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court on Thursday dismissed a petition filed by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi challenging summons issued to him by a local court in connection with a case related to an alleged remark on Indian Army. Passing the order on Thursday, a single-judge bench of justice Subhash Vidyarthi refused to grant relief to Rahul Gandhi. The court said that the detailed order would be released on June 2. Additional advocate general Vinod Kumar Shahi opposed the petition on behalf of the state government. The complaint against Rahul Gandhi alleges that during 'Bharat Jodo Yatra', he stated that 'no one questions the beating of Indian soldiers by Chinese soldiers'. This statement, according to a complaint by one Uday Shankar Srivastava, was derogatory towards the army and hurt the sentiments of armed forces. With the high court dismissing his petition, Rahul Gandhi will have to face trial in the local court. The case will now proceed in the lower court, where the Congress leader will have to appear as an accused, Shahi said. The court's decision has significant implications for Rahul Gandhi, as he will have to defend himself against the allegations in the local court, Shahi added. 'Rahul Gandhi's irresponsible statement has lowered the prestige of the Indian Army,' Shahi argued in court. Earlier, after Srivastava filed a complaint before additional chief judicial magistrate, trial court, Alok Varma, summons asking Rahul Gandhi to appear were issued. The Congress leader challenged the trial court's order in the high court and also sought quashing of the case against him. It may be pointed out that on May 19, the Supreme Court directed the Madhya Pradesh director general of police (DGP) to constitute a special investigation team (SIT) comprising three senior IPS officers to probe the comments made by MP minister Vijay Shah against colonel Sofiya Qureshi, one of the two women officers who had briefed the media on Operation Sindoor. Vijay Shah had kicked up a political storm with his controversial remarks on colonel Sofiya Qureshi, a decorated Indian Army officer.

High Court Junks Rahul Gandhi's Plea Against Summons In Army Remark Case

The Allahabad High Court on Thursday dismissed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's petition challenging a trial court's summons and complaint against him over alleged derogatory remarks about the Indian Army during his Bharat Jodo Yatra. A Lucknow bench of Justice Subhash Vidyarthi passed the order and said it would release the detailed order by Monday. Earlier, opposing the plea of Gandhi, a battery of state lawyers including additional advocate general VK Shahi, government advocate VK Singh and additional government advocate Anurag Verma stressed that the petition was not maintainable in the high court because the petitioner had alternative remedy to challenge the summoning order before the sessions court. They also submitted that from bare perusal of the complaint and the statement of witnesses, prima facie offence was made out against him. Gandhi had challenged the summoning order and the complaint arguing that it was motivated and lodged in mala fide manner. In his plea filed in a court here, complainant Udai Shanker Srivastava alleged that during the December 2022 Yatra, Gandhi made several derogatory remarks about the Indian Army in context of the conflict with Chinese soldiers. The lower court then summoned Gandhi as an accused for facing trial. Gandhi's advocate Pranshu Agarwal had argued that the allegations appeared to be fabricated just by reading the complaint. It was also argued that Gandhi is not a resident of Lucknow, so before summoning him on this complaint, the lower court should have investigated the veracity of the allegations and he should have been summoned only if the allegations were prima-facie found to be fit for trial.
