Arrests will happen soon after submission of KLIS probe report: TPCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud
KHAMMAM: Once the Commission of Inquiry probing irregularities in the Kaleshwaram project submits its report, arrests will follow, said TPCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud on Saturday.
Stating that Congress has consistently advocated for the rights and welfare of tribal and Adivasi communities, from the era of Indira Gandhi to the present leadership under Rahul Gandhi, Mahesh Kumar Goud noted that it was Indira Gandhi who introduced the Land Ceiling Act to empower tribal communities with full implementation later achieved under former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao.
He also credited Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra for strengthening the party's connection with grassroots communities, which led to initiatives like the caste census in Telangana and the launch of the Indira Soura Giri Jal Vikasam scheme. Under this programme, land ownership rights were granted to over 2.3 lakh tribal farmers through the Recognition of Forest Rights Act.

Guv assent to two bills for naming PwDs to local bodies
Chennai: Governor R N Ravi has given assent to bills amending the Tamil Nadu Urban Local Bodies Act and Tamil Nadu Panchayats Act, enabling the state govt to nominate persons with disabilities (PwDs) to local bodies, a highly placed source told TOI. The amendments, passed by the assembly in April, aimed at increasing inclusivity and ensuring the voices of PwDs are heard, will result in the nomination of 650 PwDs in urban local bodies, 12,913 in village panchayats, 388 in panchayat unions, and 37 in district panchayats. "The Governor gave his assent to these two important pieces of legislation. The state govt will soon notify the rules defining the qualifications, rights, and responsibilities of these nominees, with the legislation taking effect from that date," an official said. The govt will nominate one PwD as a member in each of the local bodies. Councils exceeding 100 members will have two PwD nominated members. The term of office for these nominated members will be co-terminus with the duration of the council. Rajasthan was the first to nominate PwDs in urban local bodies; Chhattisgarh did so in rural local bodies. "Chief Minister M K Stalin realised our long-pending demand. From the days of a PwD getting rejected in Navamalkapper village in Villupuram in 2010, to 14,000 PwDs to be nominated soon, our struggle has come a long way. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villa For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Villas in Dubai | Search ads Learn More Undo If only the PwDs form part of decision-making bodies, their rights will become a reality," said T M N Deepak, a disability rights activist. Disability groups want quotas for PwDs in assemblies and Parliament too. In its 2024 election manifesto, the Congress party pledged to provide reservation for PwDs in local bodies. TNCC Chief K Selvaperunthagai recently sent a communique to the chief ministers of the Congress-ruled states, Karnataka, Telangana, and Himachal Pradesh to follow Tamil Nadu.

'Is it so difficult to be patriotic?': Salman Khurshid amid Congress flak over Article 370 remarks
NEW DELHI: In a barb apparently directed at his own party, ex-Union minister Salman Khurshid Monday said it is distressing to see those who had joined govt's campaign to sensitise the global community on Pakistan's terror agenda being criticised for their efforts. Congress has slammed Centre's move to send all-party delegations abroad, calling it a sham. "When on mission against terrorism, to carry India's message to the world, it's distressing that people at home are calculating political allegiances. Is it so difficult to be patriotic?" he wondered in a post on X that appeared to echo the exasperation of his colleague Shashi Tharoor, who has been at the receiving end of attacks from party spokespersons for agreeing to head one of the all-party delegations. Explaining his post, Khurshid said the need of the hour is to speak in a single voice in favour of the country, irrespective of party affiliations, as the delegations have been doing on foreign soil. "When I say, is it so difficult to be a patriot? - that is the question that has to be asked of those who are putting out tweets and saying things that I believe are not very encouraging when you want to do something for the nation," he wrote. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Lisburn: If You Were Born Between 1940-1975 You Could Be Eligible For This Life Cover Reassured Get Quote Undo Khurshid's remarks Friday backing abrogation of Article 370 while addressing think tanks and academia in Indonesia had caused a stir. He had said it was unfortunate that Pakistan wants to undo the prosperity that has come to J&K following the decision - something that is diametrically opposed to Congress' official stance of revocation of special status for J&K being a disaster. Sharing Khurshid's remarks on Monday, BJP stepped up its attack on Congress. "Congress, for the sake of petty political gains, puts party interest, parivaar interest above national interest. Hope they will realise that Salman Khurshid is not a super pravakta (spokesperson) of any party, he is putting nation first. But when will Congress put the nation first?" party spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said. Significantly, unlike for Tharoor, Khurshid was spared attacks from his party.

AAP framed husband for pol vendetta: Cong councillor
Ludhiana: While the district administration and Ludhiana police remain tightlipped about FIRs lodged at division number 8 police station against office-bearers of Ludhiana District Cricket Association (LDCA) for alleged embezzlement, Congress councillor from Ward 69, Deepika Sunny Bhalla, accused the government and police of implicating her husband, Gagandeep Bhalla alias Sunny Bhalla, in the case. Asserting that the FIR against Sunny Bhalla was meant to stop him from campaigning for Congress candidate Bharat Bhushan Ashu, she said that the complainant had already withdrawn his complaint from the high court. Sunny Bhalla, a former honorary secretary of LDCA, is one of Ashu's closest associates. He has been actively campaigning for Ashu ahead of the bypoll scheduled for June 19. Sunny's wife, councillor Deepika Sunny Bhalla, on Monday uploaded a Facebook post: "As you all know, Sunny Bhalla and I have been serving our ward and people for so many years. We have all stood like a family during ups and downs, happy and hard times, together and bonded strongly. But, for the last few years, we have faced the wrath of the current govt for serving the public. Two days ago, a false FIR was lodged against Sunny Bhalla, even when the complainant already withdrew his complaint in the high court. Just to stop Sunny Bhalla from working in his ward in favour of our respected Ashu ji for the by-election, he has been implicated. The bond Sunny and Bharat Bhushan Ashu ji share is impeccable and it can't be broken ever. You can defame them but can't separate them. I would like to say to this govt and administration, let the public decide whom they want as their representative and stop putting false narratives and cases on Congress supporters. I would like to say – Na jhukenge Na tootenge, Ashu ji ke sath the, wahin rahenge.. Support Ashu bhaiya and stand strong with Sunny Bhalla." TOI tried to contact officers of the sub-division where the FIR was lodged against the office bearers of LDCA; however none of them agreed to issue a statement. However, the FIR, a copy of which is with TOI, states that the report received from the DC office indicates that irregularities were found. However, the persons who committed the irregularities or the amount of embezzlement have not been specified. The report states that the president, general secretary, honorary secretary, and treasurer, besides other office-bearers, have committed procedural and financial lapses. A probe will be conducted to ascertain the names of office-bearers and the amount allegedly embezzled. A case under Section 420 (cheating) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC has been lodged. AAP trying to intimidate Cong workers: Ashu Punjab Congress working president and party candidate from Ludhiana West, Bharat Bhushan Ashu, said that the ruling Aam Aadmi Party was feeling desperate and frustrated after realising that its defeat was imminent. Interacting with reporters during his public outreach programmes, Ashu said, "The AAP candidate is badly trailing and now they are trying to intimidate Congress workers." In response to questions about one of his close aides being booked in a case, Ashu said that the complaint was withdrawn five years ago. "AAP is literally trying to dig out old corpses from old graves without realising that they may fall in those graves themselves, and they certainly will," he remarked. MSID:: 121573935 413 |
