'My Ancestors Were With Rani Laxmi Bai': In KBC's New Promo, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi Reveals Family History

Last Updated: Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, and Commander Prerna Deosthalee will appear on KBC's Independence Day special episode. Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, who stood alongside Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri to brief the media after India's airstrikes on terror camps in Pakistan and PoK, has revealed in the upcoming episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) that her ancestors have fought for Rani Lakshmi Bai. Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, Wing Commander Vyomika Singh (Indian Air Force) and Commander Prerna Deosthalee (Indian Navy) will appear on the Independence Day special episode of Amitabh Bachchan-hosted reality show. In a recently released promo by Sony TV, Colonel Qureshi, who was on the hot seat with the other two officers, shared her family history. 'I belong to a family where everyone was in the Army. My great-grandmother's ancestors were with Rani Lakshmi Bai," she was seen telling Bachchan. 'I have not heard lullabies. I have heard tales of bravery, and I have listened to talks that tell the meaning of courage," she added. In the earlier promo shared by the TV channel, the officers narrated the stories about Operation Sindoor that took place after terrorists attacked tourists in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam. Qureshi had explained why it became necessary to take action across the border in Pakistan. Vyomika and Prerna also offered rare insights into their mission. Colonel Qureshi said, 'Pakistan had been doing this repeatedly, so it was necessary to respond. That's why Operation Sindoor was planned. This is a new India, with a new way of thinking." Wing Commander Vyomika Singh added, 'From 1:05 am to 1:30 am, the mission was completed in 25 minutes." Commander Prerna Deosthalee said, 'Targets were destroyed and no civilians were harmed." Before the promo ended, Amitabh Bachchan was heard chanting 'Bharat Mata Ki," while the audience shouted 'Jay" in response. Row Over Officer's Appearance On TV Show Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi has raised concerns over the optics of patriotism being used for entertainment by the private channel. Chaturvedi noted in a post on X that the parent company of the channel, Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI), also holds the rights to broadcast the Asia Cup until 2031. 'Our heroic women in uniform who went on to become the face of Operation Sindoor have been invited by a private entertainment channel on their show. This private entertainment channel's parent company Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) has also bagged the broadcasting rights of the Asia Cup till 2031. Yes, the very channel that seeks to earn revenue through India vs Pakistan cricket matches. Now join the dots," she said, highlighting a perceived contradiction between promoting patriotism and profiting from cricket matches against Pakistan. Who Are These Officers? Colonel Sofiya Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh were the main spokespersons during the media briefings about Operation Sindoor. During the operation on May 7, several terrorist camps were destroyed in Pakistan as a response to the terror attack in Pahalgam. The attack triggered a four-day military clash between India and Pakistan, which ended when both sides agreed to a ceasefire on May 10. The conflict started after India destroyed terrorist camps at nine different places inside Pakistan as part of the operation. view comments Location : Mumbai, India, India First Published: August 14, 2025, 21:11 IST News india 'My Ancestors Were With Rani Laxmi Bai': In KBC's New Promo, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi Reveals Family History Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. What MEA said India foils Pakistan's attack on Jammu airport: What we know so far The moment felt tense, so Kher quickly called to check if Sunil and his family were safe. Taking to X he said, 'My cousin brother Sunil Kher sent this video from his home in Jammu. I immediately called and asked if he and his family were okay. He laughed a little proudly and said, 'Bhaiya! We are in India! We are Indians. Our protection is being taken care of by the Indian Army and Mata Vaishno Devi . You don't worry. Anyway, we're not letting a single missile touch the ground here.' Jai Mata Di! Bharat Mata Ki Jai!" Maharashtra CM Fadnavis, Deputy CM Shinde hail Operation Sindoor, Raut says credit goes to armed forces

Political leaders in Maharashtra Wednesday hailed Operation Sindoor, India's military action against terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). While those part of the ruling Mahayuti alliance credited the Narendra Modi government for Operation Sindoor, Opposition leaders said the credit should actually go to the armed forces. Chief Minister and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis took to X to express solidarity in a brief message: 'Jai Hind. Bharat Mata Ki Jai.' जय हिंद 🇮🇳 भारत माता की जय ! — Devendra Fadnavis (@Dev_Fadnavis) May 6, 2025 Operation Sindoor, which targeted nine terror bases in Pakistan and PoK past Wednesday midnight, was executed two weeks after the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, in which 26 people were killed. Talking to reporters, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said India has 'truly avenged the lives lost in Pahalgam' and Operation Sindoor has brought 'a sense of justice and satisfaction to every Indian'. 'The resolve of our Honourable Prime Minister, Narendra Modi was clearly reflected in this decisive action,' said Shinde. 'India is a peace-loving nation, but when challenged, it compels its enemies to kneel — a message that has now been sent loud and clear to the entire world. Operation Sindoor is set to break the backbone of terrorism in Pakistan, and from now on, these terrorists won't even dare to look toward India. Now, bullets will be answered with firepower. Today, every Indian stands united with our armed forces,' added Shinde. Meanwhile, Opposition Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut cautioned against politicising the military's actions and questioned the government's intentions. He said the credit belongs to the armed forces, and the BJP should not claim credit for the strike. 'If you are going to claim credit for this action, then you must also take responsibility for the deaths in Pahalgam. The credit belongs solely to the Indian Army, and they should be honoured,' Raut said. Raut added, 'People say Modi has 'shown what leadership means'. Yes, he is the prime minister, but real leadership would have meant asking for (Home Minister) Amit Shah 's resignation first. I've said this repeatedly: several women were widowed. Amit Shah, as the home minister, is responsible. If Modi had demanded his resignation, that would have been a real action. That would have been the first real strike.' 'Now that the task has been given to the Indian Army, they have delivered. Politicians don't fight at the border — they issue commands. If the Army is capable, it carries out the mission, which it did. Therefore, politicians should not take credit for this,' Raut said. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi also hailed the armed forces and said, 'Pakistani civilians should thank the Indian Army for dismantling the terror infrastructure created, aided, and abetted by their Pakistani army generals. We have cleaned your house by entering it.' Meanwhile, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray urged the government to focus on internal security lapses rather than external military action. 'Doing mock drills and airstrikes or war is not the answer to the Pahalgam attack. It is important that the terrorists involved in the attack are traced. First and foremost, the question should have been asked why there was no security in Pahalgam,' Raj Thackeray said. 'Instead of talking about war, the government should be conducting combing operations across the country to hunt down such elements. War is not a solution. The country is already facing several pressing issues,' he added.
