Maharashtra CM Fadnavis, Deputy CM Shinde hail Operation Sindoor, Raut says credit goes to armed forces
Political leaders in Maharashtra Wednesday hailed Operation Sindoor, India's military action against terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). While those part of the ruling Mahayuti alliance credited the Narendra Modi government for Operation Sindoor, Opposition leaders said the credit should actually go to the armed forces. Chief Minister and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis took to X to express solidarity in a brief message: 'Jai Hind. Bharat Mata Ki Jai.' जय हिंद 🇮🇳 भारत माता की जय ! — Devendra Fadnavis (@Dev_Fadnavis) May 6, 2025 Operation Sindoor, which targeted nine terror bases in Pakistan and PoK past Wednesday midnight, was executed two weeks after the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, in which 26 people were killed. Talking to reporters, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said India has 'truly avenged the lives lost in Pahalgam' and Operation Sindoor has brought 'a sense of justice and satisfaction to every Indian'. 'The resolve of our Honourable Prime Minister, Narendra Modi was clearly reflected in this decisive action,' said Shinde. 'India is a peace-loving nation, but when challenged, it compels its enemies to kneel — a message that has now been sent loud and clear to the entire world. Operation Sindoor is set to break the backbone of terrorism in Pakistan, and from now on, these terrorists won't even dare to look toward India. Now, bullets will be answered with firepower. Today, every Indian stands united with our armed forces,' added Shinde. Meanwhile, Opposition Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut cautioned against politicising the military's actions and questioned the government's intentions. He said the credit belongs to the armed forces, and the BJP should not claim credit for the strike. 'If you are going to claim credit for this action, then you must also take responsibility for the deaths in Pahalgam. The credit belongs solely to the Indian Army, and they should be honoured,' Raut said. Raut added, 'People say Modi has 'shown what leadership means'. Yes, he is the prime minister, but real leadership would have meant asking for (Home Minister) Amit Shah 's resignation first. I've said this repeatedly: several women were widowed. Amit Shah, as the home minister, is responsible. If Modi had demanded his resignation, that would have been a real action. That would have been the first real strike.' 'Now that the task has been given to the Indian Army, they have delivered. Politicians don't fight at the border — they issue commands. If the Army is capable, it carries out the mission, which it did. Therefore, politicians should not take credit for this,' Raut said. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi also hailed the armed forces and said, 'Pakistani civilians should thank the Indian Army for dismantling the terror infrastructure created, aided, and abetted by their Pakistani army generals. We have cleaned your house by entering it.' Meanwhile, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray urged the government to focus on internal security lapses rather than external military action. 'Doing mock drills and airstrikes or war is not the answer to the Pahalgam attack. It is important that the terrorists involved in the attack are traced. First and foremost, the question should have been asked why there was no security in Pahalgam,' Raj Thackeray said. 'Instead of talking about war, the government should be conducting combing operations across the country to hunt down such elements. War is not a solution. The country is already facing several pressing issues,' he added.

We act in India's interest, not worried about world reaction: PM Modi
NEW DELHI: Brushing aside Pakistan's aggressive rhetoric declaring India's decision to put the on hold, PM Tuesday said the water, which belonged to the country, would flow in India's favour and be used by India only. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "Pehle Bharat ke haq ka paani bhi bahar ja raha tha... ab Bharat ka paani Bharat ke haq me bahega, Bharat ke haq mai rukega aur Bharat ke hi kaam aayega (Earlier, even the water belonging to India was flowing out, now India's water will flow for India's benefit, will stay here for India's benefit and will be utilised for India only)," the PM said in his speech at an event organised by ABP Network amid loud applause and slogans of 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' and 'Modi-Modi'. His first remarks after New Delhi decided to pause operation of the water treaty under which waters of Indus, Jhelum and Chenab have been earmarked for Pakistan followed stark visuals of dramatic drop in water level of Chenab as a consequence of India starting desilting and flushing of Baglihar and Salal dams. Significantly, Modi also asserted that his govt believed in taking decisions in the country's interest, unconcerned about how the international community might react. Though he did not elaborate, the assertion was seen as another sign that the counsel of a few foreign capitals for restraint might not be a determining factor in how the Modi govt responds to the Pakistan-backed terror attack. "For decades, we had this negative mindset where people would worry before taking a big decision, 'what will the world think, will we get votes or not'? And decisions and big reforms languished due to such considerations," he said. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The audience's response, like in Modi's earlier public speeches post-Pahalgam, was indicative of the strong desire for retaliation against Pakistan. The crowd started applauding as soon as he said that these days, water had become a hot topic of discussion. "You people are really smart, got it right immediately," an indulgent PM said. Modi, in keeping with the 'India@2047' theme of the event, focused his speech on development. He said for decades, the water of our rivers was a subject of tension and conflict, but the govt, in collaboration with state govts, had launched a massive campaign to link rivers. "The Ken-Betwa link project and the Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal link project will benefit millions of farmers," the PM said as he cited several examples to claim that the decisions of his govt were merit-based unlike past govts, which were more considerate about vote bank and their own survival. The PM said when people looked at country now, they could proudly say "democracy can deliver", and stressed that the govt was moving from a GDP-centric approach to progress based on Gross Empowerment of People (GEP). Referring to the new waqf law, Modi said the need for reforming the law was being felt for decades, but to satisfy a vote bank, even this noble work was defamed. "Now amendments have been made which in real sense will help poor Muslim mothers and sisters & poor Pasmanda Muslims."

On Shikhar Dhawan's Kargil Reminder, Bizarre 'Fantastic Tea' Reply From Shahid Afridi
Amid a tense standoff between India and Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack, a war of words has erupted on social media between retired cricketers Shikhar Dhawan and Shahid Afridi. The former Pakistan captain's controversial comments over the Pahalgam attack prompted a sharp reply from Dhawan. As the former India opener reminded Shahid Afridi of the past India-Pakistan confrontations, including the Kargil war, the ex-cricketer from across the border gave a bizarre response. Even former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria doubled down on Afridi, calling him a 'hypocrite'. After the Pahalgam attack, in which 25 tourists and a Kashmiri local were killed by terrorists, Afridi appeared on a Pakistan television channel and blamed India's security forces, questioning their efficiency. Shikhar Dhawan took to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) and posted a blistering reply. He wrote, " Kargil mein bhi haraya tha, already itna gire hue ho aur kitna giroge, bewajah comments pass karne se acha hai apne desh ki taraqqi mai dimag lagao @SAfridiOfficial. Humein hamari Indian Army par bohot garv hai. Bharat Mata Ki Jai! Jai Hind! (We defeated you in Kargil, too. You have already fallen so low; how much lower will you go? Instead of making baseless comments, it would be better if you focused on your country's development. We are very proud of our Indian Army. Bharat Mata Ki Jai! Jai Hind!)" To which Afridi has now replied, " Chouro jeet haar ko, aao tumhey chae pilata hun Shikhar. #FantasticTea (Forget about wins and losses, I offer you tea Shikhar)". Chouro jeet haar ko , aao tumhey chae pilata hun Shikhar . #FantasticTea — Shahid Afridi (@SAfridiOfficial) April 29, 2025 Former Pakistani cricketer Danish Kaneria, who has been criticising his own government since the attack, launched a scathing attack at Afridi. He said: "Funny how someone who refuses to sit or eat with Hindus is suddenly inviting one for tea—didn't realize hypocrisy came with a tea service." Funny how someone who refuses to sit or eat with Hindus is suddenly inviting one for tea—didn't realize hypocrisy came with a tea service. — Danish Kaneria (@DanishKaneria61) April 29, 2025 Speaking to Samaa TV, Afridi said, "Tum logon ki 8 lakh hi fauj hai Kashmir mein aur yeh ho gaya. Iska matlab nalayak ho, nikamme ho na tum log security de nahi sake logon ko (You have an 800,000-strong army in Kashmir and still this happened. It means you are inefficient and useless if you can't provide security to the people)." The terrorist attack in Pahalgam, blamed on Pakistan-backed terror outfits, is one of the deadliest in Kashmir since the 2019 Pulwama attack, and has triggered global condemnation.
