Ahilyadevi Holkar's legacy must be known to youth: CM

PUNE: Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis emphasised the need to make the younger generation aware of the exemplary governance and legacy of Punyashlok Rajmata Ahilyadevi Holkar, stating that her contributions to Indian history are often overlooked. Fadnavis was speaking at an inspirational event for the youth organised by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha on the occasion of the 300th birth anniversary of Ahilyadevi Holkar. Fadnavis noted that history often wrongly teaches that India moved from Mughal to British rule without acknowledging the regional rulers who governed during the interim 100 to 125 years. 'Ahilyadevi Holkar ruled for 28 years with great administrative vision wherein the common man was at the centre of governance. She was a queen who led with compassion and efficiency. Many government schemes are now named after her, but her full legacy must be known to the youth,' Fadnavis asserted. The chief minister highlighted that Ahilyadevi Holkar played a critical role in preserving India's cultural and spiritual heritage at a time when foreign invaders were targeting temples and sacred sites. 'She restored temples, rebuilt pilgrimage spots, and ensured that all Jyotirlingas remained intact. Her leadership was marked by economic strength, drought management, fair taxation, and transparent governance,' Fadnavis said. Praising Ahilyadevi Holkar for her efforts towards the empowerment of women, Fadnavis drew parallels to modern initiatives such as 'Operation Sindoor' saying, 'What Ahilyadevi did for empowering women centuries ago echoes today in the work we are doing under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She recognised the need for self-reliance and created job markets by inviting weavers and artisans to Maheshwar,' Fadnavis said. The programme - held at Modern College, Shivajinagar - was attended by higher and technical education minister Chandrakant Patil; Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders Vikrant Patil, Yogesh Tilekar and Hemant Rasane; and many youth and women leaders. On this occasion, a costume competition was organised to honour the queen's legacy, with awards distributed by the chief minister. Women who have made notable contributions to various fields were also felicitated.

‘Tiranga Yatra' after Operation Sindoor to ‘Har Ghar Tiranga': A look at BJP's tricolour campaigns

The BJP is set to launch its 11-day 'Tiranga Yatra' on Tuesday to reach out to people across the country to highlight the success of Operation Sindoor under which the Indian armed forces struck at the terror bases in Pakistan as a response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. Notably, this is the first 'Tiranga Yatra' that the BJP is undertaking after a military operation following a terror attack. However, it is not the first time that the ruling party is using Tiranga as a part of its campaign. The 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign has been an annual feature in the Narendra Modi government's calendar since 2022, which marked the 75th anniversary of India's Independence. According to the Ministry of Culture, 'Har Ghar Tiranga' is a campaign that started under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to encourage people to bring the tricolour home and to hoist it to mark India's independence. 'It stemmed from the thought that our relationship with the national flag has always been more formal and institutional than personal. Bringing the flag home collectively as a nation thus became symbolic of not only an act of personal connection to the Tiranga but also an embodiment of our collective commitment to nation-building,' the ministry states on its website. 'The idea behind the initiative was to invoke the feeling of patriotism in the hearts of the people and to promote awareness about the Indian National Flag,' the ministry adds. PM Modi himself has been a vocal proponent of the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign. In 2022, he made multiple social media posts to urge people to actively participate in the campaign. 'It is a special 2nd August today. At a time when we are marking Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, our nation is all set for Har Ghar Tiranga, a collective movement to celebrate our tricolour. I have changed the display picture on my social media pages and urge you all to do the same,' he had then said. Sharing pictures of people in France hoisting the Tricolour in 2023, the Ministry of Culture said, 'Har Ghar Tiranga spirit knows no bounds.' A BJP leader said the 'Tiranga template' for the party's campaigns had been much older, although its earlier yatras were called 'Ekta Yatras (unity processions)'. For instance, in 2011 – when Article 370 was in place in Jammu and Kashmir – Anurag Thakur, then president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the BJP's youth wing, undertook an 'Ekta Yatra' with the aim of hoisting the Tricolour in Srinagar. Thakur, 12 years later, said he was jailed for the 2011 yatra, while the Har Ghar Tiranga of 2022 saw the national flag being hoisted atop houses in the Union Territory after the Modi government abrogated Article 370 in August 2019. In 1991, then BJP president Murli Manohar Joshi also undertook an Ekta Yatra that culminated in him unfurling the national flag at Lal Chowk in Srinagar with Modi at his side. BJP MP slams K'taka govt over compensation to Pahalgam victims

BJP National Youth Wing President and Bengaluru South MP and Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) National President Tejasvi Surya said that if the Karnataka government has even a shred of humanity, it would have given at least Rs 1 crore each as compensation to the families of the two victims killed in the terrorist attack. 'If such an amount had been kept in a fixed deposit in a bank, the families could have survived and educated their children with the interest earned. In the neighbouring state of Kerala, the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had given Rs 15 lakh to victims who had died in an elephant attack. But here, despite the horrific nature of the terrorist attack, the Karnataka government failed to provide even that much, expressing disappointment over the state government's attitude,' he said while addressing a press conference at the BJP state headquarters 'Jagannath Bhavan' in Bengaluru. He said it is futile to expect more from a Congress party that has "sold itself for Muslim votes" and asserted that it is the responsibility of the Hindu community to support these families. He mentioned that the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) had organised a torchlight rally in Bengaluru South condemning the terrorist act and had appealed during the event to collect compensation higher than what the state government offered. He noted that about Rs 20 lakh had already been collected from the public. Surya announced that the BJP would hand over Rs 10 lakh and one rupee to Bharat Bhushan's family and Rs 10 lakh and one rupee to Manjunath's family in the next couple of days. Tejasvi Surya further informed that R.V. University had responded to his request and had written a letter promising to bear the complete education expenses of Pallavi Manjunath's son, Abhijaya, up to his postgraduate degree. He said he would personally deliver this letter to her. Additionally, Transcend, an educational institution on Kanakapura Road, has agreed to provide CBSE education from 1st to 12th standard to Bharat Bhushan's three-year-old child. A letter to this effect has already been sent to Sujatha Bharat Bhushan, he said. Moreover, Mahaveer Jain Hospital in Bengaluru has pledged to take care of the healthcare needs of both families for the next 11 years. They have also issued letters confirming this commitment. Tejasvi Surya expressed gratitude and appreciation to all three institutions. He emphasised that temples, Hindu religious trusts, Hindu philanthropists, and industrialists across the state should come forward to fulfil their responsibility and support the affected families. He criticised the state government by stating that the terrorists did not just target the Government of India but the entire Hindu community. Despite the brutal attack, the state government announced a mere Rs 10 lakh compensation, he said. Tejasvi Surya questioned who advised the Chief Minister to announce such a paltry sum and whether the Chief Minister had lost all sense of humanity and reality. He pointed out that Manjunath's household has a boy who scored 97 per cent in his PU exams and still has at least 8–10 years of education ahead. Similarly, Bharat Bhushan's home has a three-year-old child, and his mother must shoulder the burden of educating him for the next 25 years. He lamented that a few days ago, Islamic terrorists in Pahalgam had specifically identified Hindu men and killed them in front of their wives and children. These terrorists did not randomly kill tourists; they deliberately targeted Hindus, he stressed. Tejasvi Surya criticised the existence of sections within the state and the country that refuse to acknowledge this brutal truth, even when victims' families openly spoke about it. He noted that while Asaduddin Owaisi had admitted that Hindus were killed because of their religion, the Congress leaders still refuse to acknowledge this reality. He added that nothing better illustrates the decline and degradation of the Congress party. State spokespersons Ashok Gowda, Mohan Vishwa, and Surabhi Hodigere were also present at the press conference.
