Staunch Rangers duo spark Celtic fan fury on Hotline as title accusation turned on its head

The Rangers faithful reckon they are looking at a brighter future - but the Celtic support aren't ready to forget the Ibrox club's recent past. Monday's caller John Stewart took aim at the Parkhead club as he accused them of winning a series of 'tainted titles'. Predictably, a few of folk didn't quite agree with that statement. First up was Glen Mitchell, who said: 'John Stewart mentions Celtic winning tainted titles, which they never were. He must have forgotten about his old club's tainted titles in the EBT years. Now they really were tainted.' William Hutchison, Aberdeen, added: 'What on earth is yesterday's caller on about claiming all the titles Celtic have won since 2012 are tainted? 'There was only one which went to a vote and that was during lockdown. The rest were won fair and square. 'And don't give me the line about them not counting because Rangers weren't in the Premiership for four of those years. If the other teams had won the league, would you say they were tainted too? I doubt it.' Gordon Ashley, Ayr, called to say: 'John Stewart and George Wilson talk about Celtic being arrogant and winning tainted titles! 'Rangers cheated their way to multiple trophies using money they never had and dodgy tax schemes that denied clubs like Ayr United and Falkirk trophies that are rightfully theirs. One day those trophies will be rescinded.' David Oliver, Hawick, said: 'I can't believe come of the Rangers comments. Alan Flett says they are 'back to where we belong'. 'They've only been in existence since 2012 and were never there in the first place. 'John Stewart mentions tainted titles. He must be forgetting about a previous club in the 90s who had nine tainted titles. 'And as for Celtic having it their own way, the treble success started after Rangers returned to the top league. Green eyes, blue noses spring to mind.' Russell Martin looks to have leapt to the front of the race to land the Ibrox manager's gig. But Eddie Easson, Fife, said: 'So serial winner Russell Martin is the new favourite. Sporting Director Keith Thelwell is the expert picking him. Notably his former club Everton didn't fight to keep him.' But Rangers fan Alec Morrison, Edinburgh, hit back on behalf of the blue half of Glasgow, saying: 'Got to laugh at they Bhoys. They started off years ahead, then miles ahead and are now only streets ahead of Rangers. 'They are starting to panic. If we can bring in a goalie, centre-back, right-back and a No10, then they are there for the taking. 'Celtic beat us once in the league in four games last season. We know that £20million isn't a lot - they spent that on Adam Idah and Arne Pengels. We spent £3million on Nico Raskin and Hamza Igamane, I know what two I'd prefer.' John Alexander, Glasgow, said: 'I see Keith Jackson is still blaming Craig Whyte and giving David Murray a free ride for Rangers' demise in 2011. 'Whyte was no more than a useful idiot for Murray, who has never been brought to account for his role in bringing a Scottish institution to its knees.' Neil Renton, Leith, called to discuss former Hibs boss Nick Montgomery's claims that dodgy VAR decisions played a part in his Easter Road exit, saying: 'Montgomery is right - Hibs are the most hard done team when it comes to VAR decisions going against them. If we were treated as fairly as everyone else then we'd be challenging for second place.' Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton, also wanted to talk about one of this season's top Leith performers. The Hoops fan said: 'It's common knowledge that Celtic's Achilles heal last season was any high ball launched into the penalty area. 'With Brendan Rodgers still undecided over who should partner Cameron Carter-Vickers, I'd like to see him take a punt on Hibs no-nonsense centre back Rocky Bushiri, who is out of contract this summer.'

Celtic supporters display 'Kneecap Abu' banner at Hampden

A banner raised behind the goal, by the Bhoys supporters group, read: "Kneecap Abu". The phase translates to 'Kneecap Forever' or 'Up Kneecap'. A second display just rows in front stated: "Free Palestine". It comes after a member of Kneecap, Liam Og O hAnnaidh, was charged by the Metropolitan Police with a terror offence. The 27-year-old allegedly displayed a flag in support of Hezbollah at a London gig in November last year. Kneecap responded in a statement on social media: "We deny this 'offence' and will vehemently defend ourselves. Read more: "This is political policing. This is a carnival of distraction. "14,000 babies are about to die of starvation in Gaza, with food sent by the world sitting on the other side of a wall, and once again the British establishment is focused on us." The Celtic fan display follows a similar message of support for Kneecap which appeared on Belfast's Black Mountain on Friday. Large lettering read: "Kneecap Abu". The rap group shared the image on their social media account.

How many Irish Celtic goalscorers can you name, now that Kenny joins the list

Johnny Kenny scored his first goal for Celtic in Wednesday night's 5-1 thumping of Aberdeen - making him the 16th Irish player to find the net for the Scottish giants since the turn of the century. Kenny was handed his first start by Brendan Rodgers and he rewarded his manager with a brilliant headed goal in the 54th minute. The Sligo native later made way for Adam Idah, who notched his 20th goal of the season in injury-time to complete the rout. Fans on this side of the Irish Sea will be familiar with 21-year-old Kenny from his two seasons on loan at Shamrock Rovers. He played a key role in their historic progress through the league phase of the Europa Conference League, scoring five goals in the group campaign to add to the two he scored in the Champions League qualifiers. Kenny is the latest link between the Irish-founded club and this island - which has now seen 16 players score for the Bhoys since 2000. How many of them can you name before looking at the list below? Despite the criticism he has received this season, Idah has now scored 20 goals, thanks to Wednesday's late strike against Aberdeen. The Corkman scored nine goals last season while on loan at Norwich. Now at Watford, where he scored four goals in 37 appearances this season, Vata netted once in just six appearances for Celtic, in a 5-0 Scottish Cup win against Buckie Thistle. The former Shamrock Rovers full-back has scored six goals for Celtic in almost 100 appearances, including his first in the Champions League earlier this season against Slovan Bratislava. He also scored his first senior Ireland goal last October, in the 2-1 win away to Finland. When he started out at Celtic, Mikey Johnston was a Scotland Under-21 international, but by the time he left for West Brom he was an established senior Ireland player. He made 93 appearances in total for the Bhoys, during an injury-hit spell, scoring 13 times. When Brighton loaned the centre-half to Celtic during the 2020/21 season, he played 27 times for the Bhoys and scored three goals, including two in his first two appearances, against Ross County and St Mirren. Dubliner Hayes joined Celtic from Aberdeen in the summer of 2017 and spent three years at the club before returning to Pittodrie. His two goals in that time came in big games - one against his former (and future) club, and the other in a 2-0 win against Rangers in September 2019. Signed for €1.2m from Sunderland in July 2010, Murphy made a quick impact, scoring the winner against Motherwell in his second league appearance. In total, however, he scored just three goals in 21 games and he was loaned to Ipswich for two seasons before the move was made permanent in the summer of 2013. It'll be a while before any Irishman gets near Stokes' tally of 76 goals in 192 appearances, which he achieved across five full seasons. His most prolific campaigns were in 2011/12 and 2013/14, when he scored 21 goals in each term. Stokes might have more goals than any Irishman, but no one could match Robbie Keane's prolific strike-rate. He spent just half the 2009/10 campaign on-loan at Celtic from Tottenham, and scored 16 goals in just 19 appearances. That tally included a hat-trick against Kilmarnock, and braces against Falkirk and Kilmarnock. Having made just a handful of appearances in the 2006/07 and 2007/08 campaigns, Sheridan went on a run the following season and featured 16 times, scoring four goals. They came against Hibernian, St Mirren and two against Kilmarnock. Now a coach at Celtic, O'Dea spent six years there as a player at the start of his senior career, and in 70 appearances he scored six goals. His first season, in 2006/07, he was relatively prolific for a defender, netting three times in 21 appearances. He scored in a League Cup win against Rangers in March 2009. After his sudden and shock departure from Manchester United, Keane joined Celtic in December 2005 and played 13 times for the club, scoring just once in a 2-1 win against Falkirk. In six seasons, McGeady played over 250 times for Celtic and scored 37 goals, including a debut strike against Hearts in 2004. There was a goal against Rangers in November 2005, and a hat-trick against Falkirk in December 2007. Healy joined Celtic in 1998 and played almost 50 games for the Bhoys, scoring three goals, the first of those in February 2000 in a 3-0 away win against Dundee. His other goals came against Hearts and Stirling. The late midfielder scored five goals, including a couple in the Champions League against Lyon and Anderlecht, to convince Alex Ferguson to bring him to Manchester United in the summer of 2004.

Celtic ultras join forces with rival fans in banner protests against soaring SPFL ticket prices

Fan groups up and down the country have united to send out a message to decision-makers over the cost of football Football fans across the country have put their rivalries aside to unite in protest against soaring ticket prices in Scotland. Celtic 's title-winning party at Tannadice last month was halted twice as supporters lobbed tangerines onto the pitch, highlighting the £42 that away fans were forced to shell out, while some punters in the home end were granted entry for as little as £10. ‌ Hoops ultras Bhoys and the Green Brigade continued their campaign against the ever-rising cost of football at the weekend by unveiling banners which read: "Fairer deal for fans". ‌ And rival fan organisations from Motherwell, Hibs, Morton, Edinburgh City, Dundee United, St Johnstone, St Mirren, Kilmarnock and Partick Thistle joined them by championing the same message, with punters in danger of being priced out following their teams. Now, the ultra groups have joined forces on social media by putting their names behind a joint statement urging clubs to rethink their pricing policies. The post read: "Football in Scotland is sustained by its supporters. No other country can match Scotland's remarkable per-capita attendance, which is evidence of the unique devotion to our game. "While we lack the financial muscle of other leagues, Scottish football thrives through its organic supporter culture. Across our grounds, fans generate atmospheres, create vibrant displays and help provide the drama and excitement that makes our game special. "Despite this contribution, fans in Scotland are often short-changed. Rising ticket prices across many clubs place a huge financial burden on supporters, making it harder for fans to follow their team. ‌ "Meanwhile, instances of heavy-handed policing and authoritarian stewarding have seen ordinary fans treated as cattle or criminals. "The press has also repeatedly misrepresented working-class fans, amplifying isolated incidents while ignoring the overwhelming positive impact of supporter culture. "Scottish football is not characterised by clickbait headlines, but by the thousands of fans travelling home and away, supporting their teams through thick and thin. ‌ "It's epitomised by supporter-run food banks, mental health initiatives, and community action. But for many fans, our dedication has been taken for granted. We have been treated as passive financial contributors, rather than as valued stakeholders. "Ultras groups across Scotland recognise that there is a need for action and have begun coordinating on these issues. We are calling on fans of all clubs to set aside rivalries to call for a fairer deal for supporters." Celtic win Scottish Premiership title after Pope Francis tribute and ticket price protest at Dundee United

Celtic have won the Scottish Premiership for the fourth year in a row after beating Dundee United 5-0 as their fans protested against the cost of match tickets and a tribute was made to Pope Francis on the day of his funeral. It's Celtic's 13th title in 14 years and manager Brendan Rodgers's 11th major trophy with the Glasgow club. The Bhoys, as the club are also known, can now complete their sixth treble in nine seasons, and Rodgers' third, when they face Aberdeen in next month's Scottish Cup final. Pope Francis funeral - latest Winger James Forrest picked up a record 26th winners' medal, one more than Bobby Lennox, who was part of the famous "Lisbon Lions" side that won the European Cup in 1967. Nicolas Kuhn and Adam Idah both scored twice at Tannadice, as Celtic recorded their 27th victory of the campaign, seven more than Rangers, in second place in the table, 18 points behind their cross-city rivals. Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers told Sky Sports he was "very hungry to win. We want to be the most successful team we can be. "I will be here next year, 200%. I said 150% a few weeks ago. I have never been happier here. "Leading into this game there was a little bit of negativity around the league and the competition, but we can only concentrate on ourselves. Our mentality has been so, so good. "The competition is for everyone. When it matters, this team has produced, it's not our fault we're 18 points clear and scoring goals. "It's important to keep the motivation and the hunger at this stage of the season and we know what we want to achieve and what records we want to beat." The game was held up after around 11 minutes when Celtic's fans among the crowd of more than 13,500 threw dozens of tangerines onto the pitch. They were protesting against Dundee United's decision to charge visiting adult fans up to £42 to see the game when it became clear the leaders would clinch the title with a draw. Home fans were charged as little as £10, reports said. Supporters chanted about the prices as the pieces of fruit landed on the turf and held up a banner saying: "Enjoy the fruits of our labour" before Celtic's players helped clear them off the pitch. Celtic had complained to the Professional Football League after the hosts set the ticket prices. Dundee United's nickname is the Tangerines, and they traditionally play in an orange kit. One Celtic fan posted a picture on X of the fruit on the pitch, joking there were "more tangerines in this picture than [fiercest rivals] Rangers have won trophies in the last 15 years!!!!". There was a further, shorter delay early in the second half when about 20 footballs came flying on to the pitch from the same stand behind the goal as United goalkeeper Jack Walton was about to take a goal-kick. With their team leading 4-0, Celtic fans held up a new banner which said: "Stop pricing fans out of football." Before kick-off, a well-observed minute's silence was held for Pope Francis on the day of his funeral in Rome. A Celtic delegation, including manager Brendan Rodgers, his squad, and staff, had a private audience with the Pope after a match in Rome in 2023.
