Cops' security notices to 32 Tirumala mutts
Tirupati: The police department has issued security upgrade notices to 32 Hindu mutts in Tirumala, prompting strong objections from the YSRCP, which called it an insult to the revered Hindu pontiffs. As per the provisions of the Public Safety (Measures) Enforcement Act, 2013, these mutts are classified as "establishments" and must enhance security protocols. This includes installing CCTV cameras, deploying full-time security personnel, and implementing access control measures such as pilgrim frisking with hand-held and door-frame metal detectors. While historic mutts like Ahobilam, Parakala, and Sringeri have operated in Tirumala for decades, this is the first time they've received such directives from law enforcement. The mutts are yet to respond officially to the notice. And while the mutts are yet to respond to the diktat served to them by the Tirumala police, former TTD chairman Bhumana Karunakar Reddy slammed the police dept and the AP govt for going overboard in the guise of security. Addressing a press conference in Tirupati on Sunday, Bhumana felt it was an insult to the highly revered Hindu pontiffs, who are not only the representatives of the mutts but are also the custodians and torch-bearers of the Hindu Sanathana Dharma. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You To Read in 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo "The devotees and the disciples of the mutt who stay here and strictly follow certain ancient customs and pious religious traditions are not supposed to be touched in the first place. They observe a practice called "Madi" and Touching them means disrespecting them and their traditions. That being the case, how can the police dept mandate security frisking at these sacred mutts", the former TTD chief questioned. Bhumana also questioned the double standards of the police dept. "There are nearly 8000 odd rooms at Tirumala and there are many guesthouses and cottages operated by the TTD. Why hasn't the police dept issued similar notices to the TTD to upgrade security systems at all its guesthouses and cottages at Tirumala. Why are the Hindu mutts alone being singled out by the police dept", Bhumana wondered and warned that the YSRCP will extend support to the Hindu pontiffs and stage protests if the police dept doesn't withdraw it's notices with immediate effect. AP: YSRCP accuses Govt of harassing mango farmers before Ex-CM's visit
Tirupati, July 5 (UNI) Former TTD Chairman and former MLA Bhumana Karunakar Reddy has strongly condemned the coalition government for its oppressive tactics against mango farmers in Chittoor district and its attempts to obstruct former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's visit to Bangarupalyam on July 9. Speaking to the media here on Saturday ,Bhumana criticized the government for intimidating farmers to prevent them from attending YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's visit, spreading false propaganda about its cancellation, and failing to support farmers facing severe losses. The former MLA highlighted the government's neglect to ensure fair prices for mango farmers, forcing many to destroy their orchards due to financial distress. He cited the case of T Kumar from Tumindagu village, who was fined Rs. 12,750 by forest officials for cutting down 16 mango trees, an act driven by the lack of viable returns and government support. 'This is the coalition's tyranny, punishing farmers for their desperation while failing to address their plight,' Bhumana said. He contrasted this with Karnataka, where NDA leaders secured Rs 16 per kg for farmers, while Andhra Pradesh's government remained indifferent, holding superficial meetings with pulp factories to falsely claim support. Despite obstacles, Bhumana asserted that YS Jagan's visit to meet distressed farmers is confirmed. 'No amount of intimidation or denial of permissions will stop YS Jagan from standing with farmers,' he declared, noting that YSRCP has twice requested the district collector for security and permissions. He also dismissed Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan's remarks as irrelevant, urging the government to focus on farmers' welfare instead of suppressing their voices. 'Farmers are ready to share their grievances with former Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy and the government's attempts to silence them only expose their failures,' he said, vowing that YSRCP will continue to fight for farmers' rights. TTD officials dismiss Bhumana's accusations
1 2 Tirupati: Dismissing the accusations levelled by its former chairman Bhumana Karunakar Reddy, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams reiterated that several reforms were introduced by the temple body in the last one year to uphold the sanctity and spiritual ambience of the hill town. Bhumana alleged that TTD was planning to end Veda Parayanam at the temple, which he said would be a sacrilege of the highest order. "A senior temple official recently called Veda Parayanam a waste of time. It is unfortunate that those who are supposed to uphold the sanctity of the temple are degenerating the significance of the Vedas," the former TTD chairman alleged. He further claimed that Tirumala temple priests were being subjected to hardships and humiliation and are being forced to undergo physical frisking, a practice which never existed in the past, adding that it's the duty of TTD to uphold the dignity of priests. Ridiculing TTD's proposed plans to take the help of artificial intelligence (AI) to reduce the waiting time for devotees, he said the temple body is now artificially keeping the outside queue lines empty by preventing devotees from even entering the queue lines. "The temple trust was formed to facilitate darshan for visiting devotees, not to prevent or turn them away," the veteran YSRCP leader alleged. Responding to the accusations, TTD said Bhumana's accusations about plans to stop Veda Parayanam are "completely baseless". .
