World War Two grenade found in rockpool
A beachgoer discovered a live World War Two grenade in a rockpool. A man walking along the beach found the grenade at about 15:30 BST on Monday near Westward Ho!, Bideford Coastguard Rescue Team (BCRT) said. The team was dispatched by Falmouth Coastguard following a call from Devon & Cornwall Police. The Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal team from the Devonport naval base in Plymouth was called in while coastguards cordoned off the area, which included part of the South West Coast Path. The grenade was then safely destroyed on-site in a controlled explosion after being buried and rigged with a small charge. Two men escape car that burst into flames after hitting trees
A car burst into flames after hitting a tree – leaving two men in their 20s in need of hospital care. However, both managed to escape the black BMW before it set alight, police said. Devon and Cornwall Police were called to the scene near Bideford in Devon about 19:50 BST on Sunday.A spokesperson for the force said the car had left the road, hit trees and then re-joined the main carriageway on the A386 before the vehicle later burst into flames. The crash near Little Dene was described as a single-vehicle men were taken to hospital, one with a serious head injury, police added the road was closed for several hours while officers carried out "a lengthy investigation".The force is appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or who has relevant dashcam footage, to get in touch.

Inquiry after 'human remains' wash up on Devon coast
An investigation is under way after suspected human remains washed up at two locations on the North Devon and Cornwall Police officers were informed initially of what appeared to be human remains on Westward Ho! beach in Bideford at about 09:30 BST on were then notified of further suspected remains being found on the coastline at force said there would be an increased police presence along the coast between the two locations, and asked people to avoid posting images on social media if they spotted "anything concerning". A spokesperson for the force said: "Officers attended both areas and have taken the items to be further examined."At this stage it is too early to comment and speculate further, and we are asking the public to contact us and avoid posting images on social media if they spot anything concerning along the coastline."

Human remains wash up on UK beach in front of horrified walker who ‘spotted leg'
HUMAN remains have washed up on a UK beach in front of a stunned walker – with a 'leg' reportedly seen on the shore. The grisly discovery was made at Westward Ho! beach in Bideford, North Devon, on Thursday morning. 1 Emergency crews rushed to the scene at around 9.30am after reports of body parts on the sand. One witness described the sight as 'very graphic'. Police officers and a private ambulance were pictured at the beach, and it's understood images of the remains were shared online before being removed. A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed the remains were taken to a mortuary and will be examined further. The force said: 'We were notified at around 9.30am on Thursday 22 May following reports of what appeared to be human remains found at the end of Westward Ho! Beach, Bideford.
