Some political frauds have a rational endgame. Take the cover-up of President Joe Biden's age-related decline. It was clear in 2024 that Biden was incapable of serving out a second term as president.
But if the public could be misled about his capacities for long enough, perhaps he could at least block Donald Trump's return to the White House. The ruse was unsuccessful. Still, it's clear what the participants intended to accomplish and why they thought it could work.
