Business Highway 31 improvements begin
ATHENS, Texas (KETK) — The Texas Department of Transportation began improvements to Business Highway 31 in Athens the week of Monday.
Interstate 20 to close down starting Sunday night
This $8.1 million project takes place between Business 19 at the Square and State Loop 7, with Big Creek Construction managing operations. Nighttime work includes removing the existing road service, resurfacing, repairing the base and updating striping and signage.

Improvements are expected to be finished by winter 2025 and drivers should be cautious when traveling through milling operation work zones at night. Stay alert for lane closures and follow signage as daytime pavement stripping could affect traffic flow.
