Hōkūleʻa's trans-Pacific voyage delayed

HILO, Hawaii (KHON2) — Voyaging canoes Hōkūleʻa and Hikianalia have delayed their departure from Hilo due to weather conditions. The pair of boats were scheduled to sail out of Hilo on June 2, but they are now scheduled to depart on the morning of June 3 to continue their Moananuiākea Voyage across the ocean. Big Island police investigating overnight shooting The decision to delay the voyage was made by the Polynesian Voyaging Society after they found that the weather on June 3 would be more favorable weather conditions for sailing. Big Island firefighters extinguish abandoned building fire

HAWAII, Hawaii (KHON2) — Hawaiʻi Island fire officials extinguished a fire at an abandoned building during the early morning hours of May 18. Officials were first made aware of the alarm at 5:50 a.m., and responded within minutes. The fire was fully out by 6:30 a.m. Large number of UH med grads plan to stay home and serve community Upon arrival, firefighters found a single-story building with a wooden frame and metal roof. Forty percent of the structure was englufed with flames and smoke, the Hawaiʻi Fire Department said. Within 15 minutes, HFD was able to control the fire.
