Pat McAfee plays ‘girl dad' card as he finally apologizes for role in disturbing Mary Kate Cornett scandal
Pat McAfee is making his amends. The ESPN host offered up an apology to Mary Kate Cornett during Wednesday's episode of his titular show, five months after he brought up a rumored scandal involving the 18-year-old Ole Miss student. 'As a lot of you know, on February 26 of this year, we were down at the [NFL Scouting] Combine on this particular program,' he said. 'We discussed a very viral internet story about an Ole Miss college student. We weren't clear at that time where the story originated from. It was all over the internet, yet by the time we talked about it, the story was everywhere. I have since learned that the story was not true, and that my show played a role in the anguish caused to a great family, and especially to a young woman, Mary Kate Cornett. Pat McAfee offered up a live on-air apology to Mary Kate Cornett on Wednesday. Pat McAfee Show/YouTube 'I think you all know from tuning into this program that I never want to be a source of negativity or contribute to another human's suffering. And I can now happily share with you that I recently got to meet Mary Kate and her family. And I got a chance to sincerely apologize to them and acknowledge that what I said about Mary Kate was based solely on what others were saying on the internet, or what had previously been reported by others, and that we had no personal knowledge about Mary Kate or her personal life.' Cornett, her family and her boyfriend all denied the salacious rumor, which accused Cornett of sleeping with her boyfriend's father. The rumor took the internet by storm, and Cornett specifically called out McAfee, former NFL receiver Antonio Brown and Barstool Sports for amplifying the gossip, though Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy noted it never appeared on any official channels. Instagram/olemiss2029classbios The teen and her family also hired legal representation and forensic data investigators to look into the matter, said she filed reports with the University of Mississippi campus police, local authorities and the FBI, and threatened McAfee and ESPN with legal action. McAfee, who did not name Cornett on his show, seemed to address the incident during his 'Big Night Aht' at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh in April, but carefully avoided mentioning specifics. That wasn't the case on Wednesday, when he brought up his meeting with the Cornett family and the personal elements at play. 'As a girl dad, I also was very thankful for the opportunity to let Mr. Cornett know that I was wildly regretful for the part that our show, our program, played in his daughter, Mary Kate's, pain,' he said. 'I know many of you are wondering why I, or we, haven't addressed this topic until now. It's a fair question. But as you might imagine, there was a lot going on behind the scenes since this all happened. The most important element on the timing is that I, personally, it was a decision I made, wanted to talk to the family first before addressing it publicly. And I can now say that I had the opportunity to meet them, chat with them, and they're wonderful people. And I'm very thankful that they gave me the opportunity to tell them how sorry I was that this all happened, and that our program was a part of this. 'I deeply regret all the pain that this caused. I hated watching what our show as a part of, in her interviews and reading about it. And my hope is that this can be something that we all learn from going forward. I know we certainly have. Our goal at this show is to make the world a happier place, a better place. To celebrate life and sports and unify folks. I, and we, don't always get it right. But we'll never stop trying.'

Fans stunned as Pat McAfee's controversial act is caught on camera at NFL Draft
Pat McAfee left fans stunned on Thursday night at the NFL Draft as he was caught puffing a substance from a pen moments before he went live for ESPN. In a video from reporter Kyle Malzhan, McAfee can be seen accepting the item from a fan in the crowd before putting the pen to his mouth and blowing out smoke. He then hilariously offered a hit to former Packers and Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy, who respectfully declined. Fans speculated that the device was a marijuana pen, though McAfee later said that he was told it was 'CBD/Vitamins.' 'To my understanding.. This was CBD/Vitamins from a wonderful dude at the draft last night.. obviously,' he wrote on X. 'Right before we went live.. a little altitude/attitude lift.. thought Coach might've gave it a go.' Buddy sent me this video. Lol. 😂 Pat McAfee just wildn' here in Green Bay for the #NFLDraft. Former #Packers Head Coach Mike McCarthy wanted no part of it. — Kyle Malzhan (@KyleMalzhan) April 25, 2025 Nonetheless, the move earned him massive plaudits from his supporters. 'I f***ing love Pat McAfee,' one wrote. There I said it. Dude is genuine and passionate and fun 'Nobody is as cool as Pat McAfee,' a second added. 'McAfee is a national treasure and you cant change my mind,' another said. And a fourth added, 'Nothin to see here - just @PatMcAfeeShowliving his best life.' The funny moment comes after a brawl broke at at McAfee's live show in Pittsburgh earlier this month. During McAfee's 'Big Night Aht' event at PPG Paints Arena, footage shows several members of the audience throwing fists as mayhem ensues up in the stands. It is unclear what caused the scrap, which saw one man in a black shirt get sucker punched by another man when trying to break things up. The man fell down the stairs before being hit repeatedly on the back of the head, only for the melee to fizzle out when he returned to his feet and tried to grab hold of his attacker. Security eventually diffused the situation before the two individuals were escorted out of the arena, before other members of the crowd continued to exchange punches after they'd gone. According to TMZ Sports, no arrests were made despite the shocking incident that occurred during the show.

Jelly Roll makes his acting debut and premieres a new song alongside it
Singer-rapper Jelly Roll has made his primetime TV debut — and he premiered a new song in the same episode. Appearing on the April 11 episode of the hit CBS drama Fire Country, Jelly Roll, 40, played healthcare worker and former convict Noah. The role marked Jelly Roll's first scripted TV appearance after a previous cameo as himself on the Paramount+ series Tulsa King. Then, after his character was introduced, Jelly Roll's new song, 'Dreams Don't Die,' premiered later in the episode. Now in its third season, Fire Country follows a young convict, Bode, seeking redemption and a shortened sentence by joining a firefighting program in Northern California. Jelly Roll's appearance on the show came about after he crossed paths with its star and executive producer Max Thieriot at the CMT Music Awards. 'I said, 'Thank you for letting us have some of your songs on the show,'' Thieriot recently told US Weekly. 'And he's like, 'Dude, how do I get on the show? I've been petitioning online and talking to my people and you got to get me on that show.'' Thieriot told the outlet Jelly Roll called him the next day to follow up on his desire to appear on the show. 'We worked on coming up with a character [for him] that we all thought would be interesting, unique and special and still. It tells some of the story about second chances and what he really represents,' Thieriot told US Weekly. 'But [it] also feels different from who he is and how people see him day to day as a country singer.' Jelly Roll's appearance and song resonated with fans of his, and of the show. 'Jelly Roll was great on the show. Wish he was on there for good,' one fan wrote on Facebook. 'He hit a homerun again with this song,' another person wrote. 'Jelly Roll on Fire Country is so clutch!!' someone else shared on X. 'I started at 540 pounds and I was 357 pounds this morning,' he said on the April 9 episode of Pat McAfee's Big Night Aht show. 'I'm gonna lose another 100 pounds and go skydiving with my wife in Sweden, baby!'

According to Davidson County Criminal Court records in Tennessee, Jelly Roll's first arrest as an adult happened in 2002 when he was 18. Prosecutors formally charged him with two counts of aggravated robbery. He was sentenced to eight years in prison and seven years of probation. After Jelly Roll was released early from the Tennessee Department of Corrections, he was arrested again in 2008 for violating the drug-free school zone act.
