Former Auburn running back Tank Bigsby looking for a big year three with Jaguars
Former Auburn running back is getting a bulk of the Jaguars carries in practice per reports. Former Auburn running back Tank Bigsby is looking to help lead the Jacksonville Jaguars back to the postseason. Bigsby led the Jaguars in rushing last season with 766 yards and scored seven touchdowns. He made a big leap in his season in the NFL. In his rookie season, he rushed for just 132 yards and two touchdowns despite appearing in 17 games for the Jaguars. Another big leap in 2025 could mean his first 1,000-yard season as a professional. Training camp has begun for all 32 NFL teams, and the former Tigers running back has been a standout for the Jaguars. John Shipley of Jacksonville Jaguars on SI, described it as 'The Tank Bigsby Show." According to Shipley, Bigsby took a bulk of the carries for the team in practice over Travis Etienne. Bigsby and Etienne are both battling it out for the top running back spot. It says a lot that new head coach Liam Coen was giving Bigsby most of the carries. It should be noted that Jacksonville was not in pads during the training camp session. They were just in helmets and shorts. Jacksonville is looking to rebound from another disappointing season. The Jaguars went 4-13 last season and went 9-8 the season before. They have not made the playoffs since the 2022 season. Auburn fans should be excited to see what Bigsby can do this preseason as he attempts to stake his claim as the Jaguars' top running back. He is one of the most talented running backs to play for the Tigers. During his three seasons with Auburn from 2020-22, Bigsby rushed for 2,906 yards and 25 touchdowns. Bigsby is ranked No. 8 all-time at Auburn in yards and tied for eighth in touchdowns with Jarquez Hunter. Has Jaguars top running back option already emerged in training camp?
Has a top running back option for the Jaguars already emerged in the early training camp practices? One of the more intriguing training camp battles taking place for the Jacksonville Jaguars is at the running back position. Specifically, how the playing time amongst those backs will end up shaking out. While we are only three training camp practices into this, perhaps a favorite for that RB1 role has already emerged. Following Friday's practice, John Shipley of Jaguars on SI would write in this training camp recap article that it was the "Tank Bigsby show." Travis Holmes of Big Cat Country would make the same observation in his practice recap, saying that Bigsby took "the majority of the backfield reps." I don't think this comes as a huge surprise to anyone. Bigsby led the team in carries and rushing yards last season. Among all running backs, Bigsby's 4.6 yards per carry ranked 13th, and he was 13th in missed tackles forced, along with being 11th in PFF's breakaway rate, which measures how often a back had a rush of 15 or more yards. With Bigsby's ability to shed tackles and generate explosive runs, a new metric that evaluates running back play--Chris Trapasso's ATEX score--says that Bigsby could be in store for a big season. Looking at how the Tampa Bay offense operated last season under Liam Coen, the top two backs on the Jaguars' depth chart will see their share of opportunities. Success on the ground is a must in this system. For one, it keeps the offense ahead of the sticks and out of predictable passing situations. But in addition to that, the run game and passing game concepts go hand-in-hand in Coen's scheme, building off each other as the game--and even weeks--progress.

Why Jacksonville Jaguars' RB Tank Bigsby could be in store for big season
A new metric that evaluates running back play says that the Jacksonville Jaguars' Tank Bigsby could be in for a big season. A new metric that evaluates running back play says that the Jacksonville Jaguars' Tank Bigsby could be in for a big season. This metric developed by Chris Trapasso, is named ATEX and takes into account two important factors when it comes to playing the running back position: missed tackles forced and explosive runs of 15-plus yards. The higher the ATEX score, the more efficient the running back, and the greater the likelihood that chunk runs will be generated. Among all running backs last season, Bigsby ranked seventh in this metric and landed on Trapasso's breakout candidate list for 2025. Bigsby finished last season averaging 4.6 yards per rush, which was the 13th-best mark in the NFL. He also ranked third in average yards after contact, according to PFF, and was 13th in missed tackles forced, despite ranking 28th in carries. This all resulted in big plays for Bigsby, who was 11th in PFF's breakaway rate, which measures how often a back had a rush of 15 or more yards. Also contributing to Bigsby's potential success this upcoming season is what should be improved offensive line play after Jaguars' GM James Gladstone reshaped that unit over the offseason. Bigbsy will be competing with Travis Etienne and Bhayshul Tuten for snaps this season. My guess is that all have some sort of role, but to what extent for each remains to be seen and could ebb and flow as the year progresses.

3 Running Backs To Buy In Dynasty Fantasy Football
JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA - OCTOBER 6: Tank Bigsby #4 of the Jacksonville Jaguars breaks tackles to ... More score against the Indianapolis Colts at EverBank Field on October 6, 2024 in Jacksonville, Florida. (Photo by) Before we dive too deep into this article, I want to preface things by saying that running backs aren't a great buy right now. With the ambiguity of the NFL Draft, it's best to wait until after to make sure your running back isn't getting replaced. On the flip side, though, if you want to buy a running back, these are your best options. Below, we'll be going over three players who are valued extremely low in dynasty fantasy football. With such a low ranking already on Keep Trade Cut, if they get competition in the draft, you're not losing much. However, if things break their way, you could see a massive value spike from them. Starting with the most expensive player on this list, we have Tank Bigsby. What makes me a fan of Bigsby is the combination of draft capital, efficiency and opportunity. Starting with draft capital, the Jacksonville Jaguars selected him on day two (round three) of the 2023 NFL Draft. Going back to a study that I've referenced before, running backs in round three have a 35% chance of becoming an RB2 compared to round four backs, who are at 26%. Bigsby would only take 50 carries as a rookie, but in year two, he had a much larger role. In year two, Bigsby ran for 766 yards (166 carries) and posted an excellent 4.6 YPC mark. The only running back ahead of Bigsby is Travis Etienne, who is set to become a free agent in 2026. Etienne has been in trade rumors for quite some time, potentially opening the door for Bigsby. Let me remind you that Rhamondre Stevenson is the 10th highest-paid running back on an average per-year basis. The New England Patriots invested in him and the only other back in that offense is Antonio Gibson. Stevenson has shown that he can produce, scoring 14.7 PPG and he's not super old at 27. The Patriots have clearly been holding their players back as the offense struggled last year. With 3rd overall draft pick Drake Maye expected to take a big leap in year two, this offense could see a ton of improvement. If that's the case, it's very easy to see how Stevenson gets back to his 2022 ways. CLEVELAND, OHIO - NOVEMBER 03: J.K. Dobbins #27 of the Los Angeles Chargers celebrates after a ... More rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter of a game against the Cleveland Browns at Huntington Bank Field on November 03, 2024 in Cleveland, Ohio. (Photo by) After beating the odds of a long list of injuries, J.K. Dobbins is still being undervalued. In fairness, Dobbins has a lot of risk because we don't know where he'll end up. It would be shocking if Dobbins didn't get a solid landing spot as a 26-year-old back who just ran for 805 yards last season. Dobbins is a very talented player who just had 14.8 PPG last year. The hope with Dobbins is that, as a free agent, he will wait until after the NFL Draft to sign with a team. Assuming Dobbins wants to become the starter, he can make sure there's not too much competition.
