Bihar gangsters frequently visited Kolkata, built criminal networks

1 2 3 Kolkata: Bihar gangster Tausif Raza, alias Badsha, and his cousin, Nishu Khan, have been coming to Kolkata regularly since 2023, a probe by Bihar STF and Kolkata STF has found. Arrested for murdering another Bihar-based gangster, Chandan Mishra, at the Paras Hospital in Patna along with two others, the cousins stayed in Kolkata for over two weeks last year. "We have identified several locals with whom they were in touch, and we are questioning all of them. We will also be keeping a check on their activities from now on. These contacts do not stay at either New Town or Anandapur," said a source in Kolkata STF. "The cousins loved staying at hotels and partying in bars. It was during these bar visits that Nishu became acquainted with individuals involved in Kolkata's criminal underworld. After being shot in the spine during a gunfight with Bihar police, Nishu supplied weapons to criminals for some time. We suspect he might have supplied arms to some criminals in North 24 Parganas and Kolkata too during this time," claimed Bihar police sources. Meanwhile, the four accused, for whom Bihar police received a 48-hour transit remand, set out for Patna around 11 pm on Sunday, reaching Patna in less than 12 hours. Three vehicles took the accused back, the first one carrying the injured Nishu (recovering from an unrelated bullet injury) and the next one taking back the three other accused to Patna. According to information received by Bihar Police, it was mainly Nishu who built a strong network in areas like Topsia, Tiljala, and Park Circus. He recruited his own men there, who helped by providing various logistics after his operations in Bihar as instructed by Nishu. Nishu often returned to the city afterwards. The probe also revealed that it was Tausif who drove to Kolkata via Gaya. Cops found CCTV footage of the Bihar number plate SUV entering the city after losing its track from Ruby crossing. Some social media exchanges between Nishu and a woman revealed the gang members were looking for a house on rent in the Anandapur area. The CCTV of the area was tracked minutely, and the vehicle was tracked yet again, making it easier for investigators to carry out the arrests. According to police, Nishu's friend booked a room in her own name on the third floor of the Anandapur guest house through a local acquaintance. It was there that Kolkata Police's STF detectives apprehended Tausif, Nishu, and Harsh Kumar. The police said that Nishu's female friend was released as she was not involved in any crime. However, Bihar Police are also questioning several others besides the detainees, given at least four other shooters are still at large. They have been trying to find out why Nishu and Tausif came to Kolkata after the crime at the Patna hospital. They said that they might soon move court to question Sheru Singh, who is imprisoned in Purulia jail and widely claimed to have instructed Tausif to murder Chandan. It is reported that Sheru even provides them with monthly payments.

Bihar Police identify accused in Paras Hospital murder case, raids underway

Patna: Following the broad daylight murder of prisoner Chandan Mishra inside Paras Hospital in Patna on Thursday, police have identified all five assailants using CCTV footage from the hospital lobby and have launched intensive raids to arrest them. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by City SP (East) has been constituted to probe the case, with the Bihar STF assisting the SIT. The SIT has identified the escape routes used by the five accused after the attack. Patna Police, along with STF teams, are conducting raids in various areas, including Patna, Phulwarisharif, and adjoining Hajipur, to nab the accused. However, no arrests have been made so far. On Thursday morning, five armed criminals entered Paras Hospital, one of Patna's largest private hospitals, and gunned down Chandan Mishra, a prisoner from Buxar who was undergoing treatment on parole. According to CCTV footage, the five criminals, four of whom were wearing caps, were seen entering ward number 209, where Mishra was admitted. Each carried a pistol, and after entering the room, they executed the murder swiftly. While the attack was underway, the hospital lobby outside the ward remained silent, with no police personnel or private security visible in the vicinity. Witnesses from adjacent wards came out upon hearing the gunshots but, terrified by the scene, retreated immediately. After committing the crime, the assailants managed to escape easily. The incident has raised serious questions about the security arrangements for prisoners admitted for treatment in private hospitals. Chandan Mishra, who was a notorious criminal and an inmate of Beur Jail, was under treatment at Paras Hospital on parole. 'Where were the police personnel deployed for the security of Chandan Mishra, and why were security arrangements so lax despite the risk of a gang war?' is a question now being raised across Patna. Following the incident, a group of people, including the family members of Chandan Mishra, sit on a Dharna outside the gate of Paras Hospital. Patna SSP Kartikeya K Sharma has stated that police are actively pursuing the case and the criminals will be arrested soon, adding that the incident has been taken very seriously. The attack carried out in broad daylight inside a high-profile hospital has put the Patna Police under intense scrutiny and has raised concerns about law and order in Bihar's capital.

Patna: An accused linked to the murder of businessman Gopal Khemka was gunned down after an encounter in Bihar capital's Malsalami locality early Tuesday morning, officials said. The accused, identified as Vikas Kumar alias Raja, allegedly accompanied the shooter, Umesh Yadav, who was directly involved in Khemka's murder on Friday night. Bihar's Special Task Force (STF) and Malsalami police conducted the raid based on information extracted from Umesh during interrogation. Earlier, police had arrested Umesh, identified as the main shooter in the case. Preliminary investigations have revealed that Vikas was involved in illegal arms trading in the Malsalami area and had sold the weapon to Umesh that was used in the murder of Khemka. According to an official, the police team reached Vikas's house around 2.45 a.m. on Tuesday, where he opened fire on the joint team. The officials of Bihar STF and Malsalami police retaliated. After a brief gunfight, the accused was neutralised. 'So far, we have detained two individuals and arrested the main shooter in the Gopal Khemka case. Our investigation indicates that an individual had taken a contract of Rs 10 lakh to kill Khemka and subcontracted it to Umesh for Rs 1 lakh,' a senior police officer said, adding that further details will be shared as the investigation progresses. Businessman Gopal Khemka was shot dead in Patna on Friday night, triggering shock and concern among the business community and raising questions about the law and order situation in the state capital.
