NCW to set up counselling centres to address rising divorce cases
Patna: National Commission for Women (NCW) member, Mamta Kumari, on Sunday said the commission would set up counselling centres under 'Tere Mere Sapne' programme in all the districts of Bihar. The centres will deal with the increasing divorce cases, she said. Addressing a press conference here, the NCW member said the commission would have a pre-marital counselling session with the couple to promote healthy relationships among them. Both sides will be heard and guided for this. She further said a letter has already been issued to the DMs, asking them to identify suitable locations and personnel for the centres. The listed names will be sent to NCW, after which training will be given to the selected people. Currently, the counselling centres are operating in 70 districts of the country, including one in Bihar. Under the 'Ayog Apke Dwar' programme, the NCW member will hear 120 cases of women in Sitamarhi and East Champaran on Tuesday and Wednesday. Apsara named state women's commission chairperson
Patna: The state social welfare department on Saturday reconstituted the Bihar State Women's Commission with Apsara as its chairperson. Bandana Preyashi, chairperson-cum-MD, Women and Child Development Corporation, will be the ex-officio member-secretary of the panel. The commission has been reconstituted in pursuance of the provisions of Section 14 (a) (iv) of the Bihar State Women's Commission Act, 1999 (as amended by the Act, 2024). Apsara's appointment has been made keeping in view her extensive experience and dedication to public service, according to the department's press communique. "Under her leadership, the commission is expected to take effective and result-oriented action to address burning issues like women's empowerment, domestic violence, dowry harassment, and gender discrimination," it noted. Sheela Tuddu, Razia Kamil Ansari, Pinky Kumari, Sajal Jha, Shyama Singh, and Rashmi Rekha Sinha have been nominated as members. The tenure of the chairman and members will be a maximum of three years from the date of their nomination or till they attain the age of 65, whichever is earlier.
