Cycle shop in West Lothian is pushing for second successive industry best award
Pedal Power in West Calder is on the shortlist again for Independent Bike Dealer of the Year
A cycle shop in West Lothian is hoping to make it a double after it was shortlisted for a prestigious industry award.
Pedal Power in West Calder was named Independent Bike Dealer of the Year 2024 in the BikeBiz Awards and is looking to hold onto the title after being named amongst the six finalists this year.
BikeBiz delivers trade information to the entire cycle industry and has been running for over 25 years. BikeBiz offers a Daily Newsletter, delivering breaking news direct to readers' inboxes and is the dominant site for trade readers and those with a professional interest in the cycling industry.
They cover everything from product updates to marketing messages and serious industry issues.
Pedal Power, which was established 25 years ago, is the only Scottish company to make it into the final half-dozen for the bike dealer award, which will be decided by a public vote.
Owner Jonathan McBain, said: 'We won it last year and we've been shortlisted before quite a few years ago. We went down to Birmingham last year and it was pretty cool.
'We're an honest bike shop, doing a good job of selling bikes. We have a full workshop and we do bike-fitting and have a room set up for that.
'If you buy a bike and you're not comfortable we have Sean, our qualified bike fitter, and a computer system for that. All the wee added bits to go along with bike sales we do really well. We also do a bit of rider coaching. It's a pretty big shop here in West Calder so we have the room to do all that.
'Some people might see us as a bit more elitist or expensive, but we are the same price as places like Halfords for a lot of things, and we provide a much more personal service.
'Everyone who works here is a cyclist or is interested in bikes.
'We do a lot of good things and through the years have supported a lot of riders and we've sponsored a lot of events. So that's help keep our profile up.
'The award winner is decided by the public and trade suppliers so it's amazing to be shortlisted again. I don't think anyone has won it two years on the trot.'
Two other Scottish cycling organisations will join Pedal Power amongst the finalists at the UK-wide awards ceremony in Birmingham on October 16.
Connor Mooney of Cairney Cycles in Newmains, Wishaw is a finalist in the Bike Mechanic of the Year category, and FEL Scotland, an environmental charity based in Forth Valley, has been shortlisted for the cycle advocacy award, in which the winner will be chosen by the judges.
