More info Over a year since TV chef Dave Myers, known from the Hairy Bikers and Strictly Come Dancing, sadly lost his fight with cancer in February 2024, his grief-stricken widow has moved social media users to tears with a heartfelt tribute. By posting a touching photograph on Facebook, Liliana Myers opened up about the emotional struggles she's endured following the death of her cherished spouse. She introspectively detailed how Dave's absence has necessitated substantial adjustments in her life and poignantly described her efforts to cope with such a devastating bereavement. Liliana reminisced about the guidance Dave once offered, penning: "When he said: 'Lil, you should learn how to ride a bike'. I said: 'My love, I have you to do that. We enjoy sharing a bike ride together too much.'". She continued: "When he said: 'You should follow recipes and cook nice food'. I said: 'But my darling, you're cooking for me wonderful food... kitchen is your territory.'". She also recalled their conversations about independence: "When he said to me: 'Lil, you should get out there more, explore more on your own.' I said: 'Dave, my life is wrapped around you, I love the experiences we have together and who I am with you... I don't need more.'", reports the Mirror. Finally, Liliana reflected on how she's had to confront the reality of doing everything without Dave, lamenting: "How right was he and how wrong was I because, when I lost him, I had to learn to do all of those things without him! And it hurts now that I did say no then. "I'm telling you all these things because this has been a valuable lesson to me, and hopefully you feel inspired to: do, experience, live, love and enjoy everything for yourself, be daring and bold, don't hide behind someone else's dreams. "Have your own dreams and fulfil them for yourself! This picture was taken in times of joy and happiness... a reminder of how life was before everything changed." Her open-hearted narrative resonated deeply, sparking waves of empathy and support from her admirers, with loads replying to her divulgence. Notably touched, several conceded that they were brought to tears by her stirring words. Offering a soothing sentiment, a fan expressed: "Keep moving forward knowing that Dave is watching over you, probably chuckling at your muck ups, but he's there. You have the love of 'the Bikers team' and the love of the nation too, always remember that. "It's hard, but you are moving forward and have accomplished so much. Remember to take time for you too, don't feel you have to be strong all the time. There will be times of despair and tears too - let it out. But we are all there for you, no matter what." Another wrote in response, sharing their emotional reaction: "Tears streaming down my face." Continuing the heartfelt tributes, a third added: "He's still with you when you're doing all of those things. So long as you're doing things with him in your heart and mind, you'll carry him with you forever." A fourth admirer shared: "Such a beautiful picture of you both. Also, a beautifully sad reminder of what happens in life. You are a wonderful advocate for everything your wonderful husband stood for." The poignant love story that unfolded for one half of The Hairy Bikers, Myers, started serendipitously in Romania where he was filming 'The Hairy Bikers' Cookbook' and became enchanted by the hotel employee who would later share his life. Their bond persisted over the long distances, and it was her journey to the UK which saw their camaraderie bloom into romance. His partner fondly remembered: "I was blown away by one tiny little thing. "He picked me up from the airport. It was about midnight and he opened the fridge and he said, 'What do you want me to cook for you?'". "I'd never ever in my life had a man cook for me. So that was the very first thing that just hit me. I was visiting as a friend, but from that moment on my heart just melted." After Myers' untimely passing at the age of 66, he is remembered for his infectious charisma and gastronomic fervour. In the wake of his departure, Liliana has been vocal about her profound loss, supported by an online community that has rallied to offer their heartfelt sympathies.

Cities should embrace the culture of alfresco dining

One of the few good things to emerge from the Covid disaster was alfresco dining. Country pubs, suffering a catastrophic loss of custom, put chairs and tables in their gardens, erected tents that counted as outdoors and safely carried on serving pub grub and ale. Rather trickier in towns, but pavements were soon colonised and then whole streets. Soho no longer counted on luring in the London lewd but did a nice trade in dinners all along Old Compton Street. Manchester, Birmingham and Liverpool followed suit. With bikers forced to scoot down other alleys, flower planters barring the way to cars and even urban fumes kept at bay, Brits could briefly imagine they were carefree in gay Paree.
