Behind the scenes: News 8 WROC welcomes local JROTC students
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – Several students who are part of the Junior ROTC program in Rochester explored the news business at WROC-TV studios Tuesday afternoon.
Lt. Colonel Bill Carr and other RCSD instructors and volunteers facilitated the tour. The cadets from Rochester Early College International High School said they were excited to see the different departments. They showed an interest in how stories are edited, how the news is produced in the studio, and of course they wanted to experience the magic of the weather wall!
The students spent a couple of hours hearing about the various jobs and roles within a news station and how the team at News 8 works together to serve the community.
We first met Retired Army Lt. Colonel Bill Carr and his cadets last October as they prepared for a national competition at Fort Knox.
Carr said JROTC isn't just about military training and discipline. Through the program, students gain exposure to places, events, and careers they may not have had access to prior to high school. It gives them a window into what is possible.
