Lady Gaga Blocked From An All-Time Record By Music's Hottest Newcomer
Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars scored one of the biggest global hits in recent memory with "Die With a Smile," and they have the chart records to prove it. The tune lived at No. 1 on both of Billboard's worldwide rankings for months, but all successful runs must come to an end eventually. The Grammy-winning collaboration recently stepped aside from the throne on the Billboard Global 200, and it has also now moved on from the top of the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. as well. It looked for a while like the cut might have been on its way to making history and breaking an all-time record, but its impressive winning streak has finally come to an end—at least for now. "Die With a Smile" earned 17 stays atop the Billboard Global Excl. U.S., including the past six frames in a row. This week, it slips to No. 2, making way for a newcomer who has just scored the biggest hit around the world. "Ordinary" by Alex Warren steps up to the summit on this ranking for the first time. The track reached No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 several weeks ago but had been kept from the top spot on the list that excludes all streaming and sales activity from America… until now. The two tunes swap spaces, and Gaga and Mars may not be able to recover. "Die With a Smile" ranks as the track with the second-most weeks at No. 1 in the history of the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. It is just two frames away from tying the all-time record — which Mars also claims with another musician. His duet with Blackpink singer Rosé, "Apt.," collected a total of 19 stays in the penthouse and was in direct competition with "Die With a Smile" for a long stretch of that time. While it's possible that "Die With a Smile" could return to the top, "Ordinary" has some real momentum behind it. Global audiences appear to still be waking up to the track, and it could lead for quite some time. That said, the throwback-sounding duet likely won't disappear anytime soon. In fact, it could remain inside the top 10 for several more months, as it has already been living in that region since last fall. This is not the first time that "Die With a Smile" has been dethroned on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. The tune first reached No. 1 in early September 2024. It reigned for two months before "Apt." replaced it. Throughout 2025, those two tracks have traded positions multiple times.

After two weeks headlining Coachella, Lady Gaga's catalog is performing better than it has in some time. It's not so much her newer tracks from her latest album Mayhem, which arrived just a few weeks ago and dominated the Billboard charts upon release, but her older cuts that are back in the spotlight. Following her back-to-back main stage performances, some of the classics that turned the singer and actress into a global powerhouse have once again become worldwide hits, climbing higher than ever. Gaga currently holds five spots on both of Billboard's worldwide tallies — the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. Two of her most familiar tracks rise to never-before-seen heights this frame thanks to an uptick in sales and streams, a surge clearly tied to her Coachella showings. Of the two growing cuts, "Poker Face" ascends the highest. That track, one of Gaga's true breakout hits, reaches new peaks of No. 63 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. and No. 72 on the Billboard Global 200. At the same time, "Bad Romance" also improves its standing. The track only debuted on these two tallies last week and now soars to new peaks. The Grammy-winning tune jumps from No. 172 to No. 149 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. Meanwhile, it rises more modestly on the Billboard Global 200, climbing from No. 186 to No. 168 in just its second frame on the list. As "Poker Face" and "Bad Romance" soar, Gaga also earns a new hit on both tallies. "Judas," taken from her 2011 album Born This Way, debuts at No. 147 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. and No. 195 on the Billboard Global 200, as it barely makes space on the 200-spot roster of the most-consumed tracks worldwide. Gaga even manages to see another hugely successful single return to one of the two planet-spanning charts. "Shallow," her collaboration with A Star Is Born co-star Bradley Cooper, which won her both a Grammy and an Oscar, reappears on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S., landing at No. 174 in its two-hundred-and-first frame on the tally. Two of Gaga's most recent releases are still performing exceptionally well, as she occupies a pair of spots inside the top 10 on the two tallies. "Die With a Smile," a duet with Bruno Mars, holds at No. 1 on both global rankings yet again. "Abracadabra," the current focus track from Mayhem, climbs back into the uppermost tier, settling at No. 8 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. and one spot beneath that on the Billboard Global 200.

Gaga has claimed nearly the same number of hits on both tallies. 'Judas' is her eighteenth placement on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S., and she has now scored nineteen wins on the Billboard Global 200. As it arrives, 'Judas' becomes Gaga's lowest-peaking track on the Billboard Global 200, a distinction previously held by 'Don't Call Tonight' from her latest full-length, which topped out at No. 183. 'Judas' is her second-lowest performer on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S., narrowly beating 'Bad Romance' by just two spaces, as that Grammy-winning cut stalled at No. 149. 'Judas' was released as the second single from Gaga's Born This Way, her sophomore full-length, which arrived in May 2011. The duo's hit 'Die with a Smile' reclaims its spot as the biggest song on the planet this week, once again leading both of Billboard's worldwide tallies. That includes the Billboard Global 200 and the Billboard Global Excl. U.S., with the difference between them being that the latter strips out all American listening data to show what the rest of the world is playing on repeat. In both cases, 'Die with a Smile' is out front, giving Gaga and Mars another historic win to add to their already-impressive tenures as superstars. On the Billboard Global Excl. U.S., 'Die with a Smile' leads for a thirteenth frame. That's a lucky number this time around, as it pushes the track into rarefied territory. With this latest stint on top, Gaga and Mars tie two of the most successful songs in the chart's short but competitive lifespan. 'Die with a Smile' is now even with Miley Cyrus' 'Flowers' and Harry Styles' 'As It Was,' as all three cuts have ruled the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. for exactly 13 weeks. That trio now shares the bronze medal as the third-longest-running No. 1s in the ranking's history. If 'Die with a Smile' can manage to hold on for just one more frame — which, at this point, seems highly likely — Gaga and Mars will break the tie they just formed and move up the all-time ranking. One more week at No. 1 would bring them to an even 14 periods, enough to match the runner-up record, which is currently held by Mariah Carey's holiday smash 'All I Want for Christmas Is You.' That annual favorite will almost certainly return to the top spot again this December. While 'Die with a Smile' is making history, it still has a long way to go before it catches up to the all-time champion. The current record-holder for the most weeks spent at No. 1 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. is another track featuring Mars: 'Apt.,' his collaboration with Rosé. That release enjoyed an incredible 19-frame reign atop the tally, and it's still comfortable in the runner-up rung this time around. 'Die with a Smile' could theoretically match that number, but it would need to continue ruling for more than a month to get there. That's a tall order, especially for a tune that's already logged 13 frames in charge – though it's certainly not impossible.
