RM250,000 concrete drain completed at Lrg Semaba 7 to tackle flooding issues

Yap (second left) and others seen at the site of the completed concrete drain at the T-junction of Lorong Semaba 7. KUCHING (June 7): The construction of a concrete drain at the T-junction of Lorong Semaba 7 has been completed at the cost of RM250,000, said Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap. He said the rural transformation programme (RTP) project had resolved long-standing drainage and flooding issues in the area. 'With the completion of this phase, residents in the neighbourhood can now look forward to improved water flow, reduced flood risk and better overall living conditions,' he said in a statement. He emphasised that the initiative is more than just a basic infrastructure upgrade. 'It is a commitment to ensure that every part of Kota Sentosa is not left behind in terms of infrastructure. Too many of our older residential areas still suffer from outdated or insufficient basic amenities. 'I am working tirelessly to correct that,' he added. Yap also revealed that the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has conducted survey and assessment works on the opposite side of the same T-junction, as well as another stretch of earth drains along Lorong Semaba 11. The proposed next phase will involve the construction of additional concrete drains, with a combined estimated cost of RM400,000, and MPP engineers are currently preparing the Bill of Quantities to move the project forward. Reaffirming his commitment to infrastructure development, Yap said he will continue to advocate for improvements under the RTP and other government allocations. 'Development cannot be concentrated in one area. As your elected representative, I will continue to press for improvements – street by street, lorong (lane) by lorong – so that all residents of Kota Sentosa enjoy the benefits of proper, modern infrastructure.' Yap also highlighted that his efforts are aligned with the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government's focus on inclusive development and narrowing the infrastructure gap, particularly in semi-urban and suburban communities. He emphasised that infrastructure is not just about roads and drains. 'It's about dignity, safety and improving the quality of life for the people I serve. I will not rest until every kampung, taman and lorong in Kota Sentosa sees tangible progress,' he pledged. concrete drain flooding jalan semaba lead Wilfred Yap

Yong: Service continues even though no more minor projects grants

Yong Teck Lee KOTA KINABALU (May 20): Nominated assembyman Datuk Yong Teck Lee said his office will continue to serve the public even though the annual minor projects grant of RM100,000 has been discontinued for this year. 'It is with a heavy heart that I have to make it known to the hopeful applicants, who have been waiting since last year for minor projects to be done this year, that there are no minor projects grants this year. Any of the usual development applications (such as bus stops, playground repairs, concrete drains, and for roof zincs, water tanks, polypipes and so on) received by my office will be forwarded to the relevant authorities such as the City Hall (DBKK), Public Works Department (JKR), Rural Development Ministry and Chief Minister's Department,' he said in a statement on Tuesday. In case of any development and minor projects that are urgent, Yong advised the residents of Kota Kinabalu to seek grants from the government elected assemblypersons who have been allocated RM3 million to RM4 million per ADUN per constituency of Inanam, Likas, Api Api, Luyang and Kapayan for the year 2025. The annual grant for 2023 and 2024 was RM3 million for each of the elected assemblymen. 'I understand that the members of parliament of Kota Kinabalu and Sepanggar (government MPs) have their own federal grants of a few million ringgit each. 'As for annual minor projects grants of RM100,000 allocated to nominated assemblyman for the years 2021, 2022, 2023 (RM50,000 expended) and 2024, these grants have been expended on Jalan Damai bus stop with solar lights, repairs and upgrading of Taman Likas playground, repairs of Taman Likas Jaya playground, repairs of basketball court and playground at Dah Yeh Villa. 'Other minor projects included covered concrete drains and walkway at Likas Park and road repairs at Kampung Kopungit. Water tanks, polypipes, roof zincs and plywood have been distributed to flood victims, fire victims in the Kota Kinabalu area and villagers at Signal Hill, Fung Yi Ting/Dah Yeh Villa, Taman Keramat, Kg Likas, and Kg Unggun (Menggatal),' he said. Yong added all work done was based on specifications and the Bill of Quantities of DBKK.

HMDA to select consultancy for skywalk near Secunderabad Railway Station

In an effort to take forward the proposal for improvement of pedestrian facilities near Secunderabad Railway Station, the State government, through the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority, has invited proposals from consultants towards execution of the project for an elevated walkway covering significant points around the station. HMDA has published a request for proposal for selection of consultant for providing services towards development of skywalk near the railway station. A Secunderabad Railway Station Precinct Area has been demarcated to spell out the terms of reference for the consultancy, which encompasses several important points nearby from where pedestrian traffic is generated on daily basis. The locations to be covered include the railway station, the two metro rail stations — Secunderabad West and Secunderabad East connecting to the railway station, Rathifile bus station, Secunderabad bus stop, Gurdwara bus stop, Blue Sea bus stop, Chilkalguda bus stop, Bhoiguda bus stop, and the Uppal bus stop. In addition to the transportation hubs, the area is also home to a temple, and a Gurdwara, which add to the number of footfalls in the region, the RFP document notes. The current infrastructure is insufficient to accommodate the high volume of pedestrians, contributing to traffic congestion and safety concerns, the document said explaining the need for the skywalk. The selected consultants will be responsible from the stage of design up to bid processing. They will have to prepare a conceptual design of the skywalk structure with revenue generation model, a detailed project report including technical drawings, architectural and structural designs and Bill of Quantities for tendering, and also prepare the bid document for selection of contractor, besides providing technical assistance in bid process management. Last date for submission of tenders is June 2.

Eluru district targets 8,500 hectares for micro irrigation

For the year 2025-26 Eluru district has set an ambitious micro irrigation target. The district aims to cover 8,500 hectares under the Andhra Pradesh Micro-Irrigation scheme. Since the scheme's inception in 2003-04, it has been implemented across 115,329 hectares, benefiting 93,003 farmers till date. The district still has 84,810 hectares available for implementing the micro-irrigation scheme. Eluru district micro irrigation project director, P.V.S. Ravikumar, on Thursday asked farmers to register themselves at the local Rythu Seva Kendras (RSKs) to benefit from government subsidies for drip and sprinkler irrigation equipment. Mr. Ravikumar detailed the subsidy structure: Subsidy structure For SC/ST small and marginal farmers (up to 5 acres): 100 percent subsidy. Other small and marginal farmers (up to 5 acres): 90 percent subsidy. Medium farmers (between 5 and 10 acres): 70 percent subsidy Other farmers: 50 percent subsidy All categories of farmers—small, marginal, and large—are eligible for a 50 percent subsidy on sprinkler systems. Documents and registration Farmers who wish to avail government subsidies for drip and sprinkler irrigation equipment must submit their Aadhaar card and land ownership documents. Registration can be done via biometric authentication or through the local Mandal Horticulture Officer, Village Horticulture Assistant, Village Agriculture Assistant, Village Sericulture Assistant, or Micro Irrigation Area Officer. Alternatively, farmers can register at the local Rythu Seva Kendra (RSK) or at the District Micro Irrigation Office in Eluru. Inspection Mr. Ravikumar said: 'The eligible farmer's orchard/fields will be inspected by representatives of the selected micro-irrigation company and RSK staff. After that the micro-irrigation design and BOQ (Bill of Quantities) will be presented. Once this is done, a message will be sent to the farmer's mobile number regarding their share of the cost. Upon payment to the Project Director or AP Micro Irrigation Project (APMIP), the application will be reviewed, and administrative approval will be obtained from the District Collector. Once approval is received, the equipment will be supplied and installed in the farmer's orchard/field by technical experts from the respective company.'
